- Safety warning for the latest script kiddie trolling happening on Twitch. (previously done my Lunar and his friend. they are back)
- There are users with a certain style of name. They follow, then in some channels they troll to try to get the streamer to report them.
- If you go to their channel page to report, they've installed a rogue extension that will show your IP address to them with the potential to try to DDOS the streamer. However, they can't match IPs to Twitch accounts, so this is just fishing and trying to make people panic more than an actual threat.
- Instead, if you have to report a viewer in chat, you can click their name to pull up their user card and report from there, or if they haven't chatted yet (if they use whispers to harass you or other viewers), you can pull up their user card with "/user <name>" in chat. They won't see you do this command.
- Example usernames I've seen (and had follow my own channel) are stuff like:
- 0x45e (some with more added after)
- 0x25e
- dexiphp
- And then long strings that look like error codes:
- 2600_6c5e_5b7f_fdcd_venom
- 2603_6000_ba07_8c751_cc60
- Twitch has been suspending these accounts, and hopefully also taking action on the rogue extensions that make this possible, so while this isn't a huge immediate concern, it's always better to be aware and prepared to respond.
