  1. >You are anonymous.exe
  2. >You've reluctantly agreed to investigate whatever is happening outside of the grid, but this?
  3. >This is a joke.
  4. >You leap to your feet and look around yourself, on the verge of panicking.
  5. >The creature looks confused at your actions, "Is everything alright?"
  6. >You turn to her.
  7. "You're not a User. What are you?"
  8. >"A user? I wouldn't know anything about that. My name is Twilight Sparkle. I was on a walk when I saw you on the ground. What exactly are you?"
  9. "I'm a program."
  10. >"A program? That's a strange thing to call yourself. The only programs I know about are programs made by organizations to help other ponies."
  11. "I'm not a charity, just a program. Did I um... come out of something?"
  12. >"Like a door?"
  13. "No. It's hard to explain."
  14. >All this does is confuse her even more, so you set about looking for yourself. You turn around and scan the ground for something... anything.
  15. >It's easy to spot the small SD card amongst the grass. It's a foreign little thing that doesn't belong to its surroundings.
  16. >For some reason finding the data card brings you relief, but as you go to pick it up a new question is burning in your thoughts.
  17. "Where is he?"
  18. >"Who? You were the only one here."
  19. "Sam Flynn..."
  20. >You turn to the small creature, a feeling of dread overtaking you.
  21. "Sam Flynn. He would have been with a girl, Quorra."
  22. >"I'm sorry, I don't know anything about that."
  23. "This isn't good. No no no, shit. This isn't good."
  24. >You bend down to pick up the card, and notice it's attached to a necklace. You take a deep breath, which still feels strange to you, and turn back to Twilight.
  25. "I need you to listen to me very carefully. My name is Anonymous. I come from this..."
  26. >You hold up the small SD card so she can see.
  27. "I know it sounds strange. I know a few things about the outside world, we all do thanks to the data eruption CLU caused when he died, but none of the files I had mentioned anything about creatures like you."
  28. >"Hold on, I'm confused. Files? The grid?"
  29. >You struggle to find a way to explain computers to her, but find that it's useless.
  30. >You opt for something easier.
  31. "This... little card is my world. It's called the grid, and it houses hundreds of other beings like me. Before I was born it was a dystopia ruled by the master control program. The User, that's what we call the people who created us, Kevin Flynn... he found a way onto the grid, and with the help of the guardian Tron defeated the MCP..."
  32. >Twilight laughs and holds up a hoof.
  33. >Is it a hoof?
  34. >You think it's a hoof.
  35. >She looks vaguely equine, but your files on animals have the horses of the outside world looking a very different color. Not to mention the horn on her head would make her a unicorn, an entirely mythical creature.
  36. >"That's a bit too much exposition. I want to help you Anonymous, I really do, but I have no idea what you're saying. Why don't you give the card to me and I'll take a look at it?"
  37. >It's not like you have much of a choice.
  38. >No wonder Kril wanted your help.
  39. >Did he know Sam and Quorra had gone missing? How could he know something was wrong? Does he have a way to see outside the Grid?
  40. "Alright."
  41. >"Follow me back to my home. I'm sure there's something I can do."
  42. >In all your existence no one has ever treated you as such. Every other program you've encountered has eventually found out what you are and treated you with the respect being a virus called for.
  43. >Viruses in the Grid are hunted down like rabid dogs, and often receive the worst of punishments when they are caught.
  44. >It always ends in death for a virus.
  45. >But this equine... this 'Twilight'. She speaks to you with no fear in her voice.
  46. >Only understanding.
  47. >You trust her.
  48. >As she leads you into what appears to be a small town you begin to realize something.
  49. >This isn't the outside world.
  50. >Or at least... not the one Kevin Flynn knew.
  51. >CLU was a program copied from the mind of Kevin Flynn. When Sam escaped with Quorra and Kevin Flynn merged with CLU, the resulting death and explosion the two caused rocked the entire Grid.
  52. >That explosion was pure data, everything that Kevin Flynn and CLU knew, the entire Gird now knows as well. Not only that, but everything that was too close to the damn thing was completely derezzed, vaporized into thin air.
  53. >You had your suspicions when you first saw Twilight, but now you're sure.
  54. >It's been about a half an hour before you reach the edge of town, and you finally muster the courage to say something.
  55. "Twilight?"
  56. >"Yes?"
  57. "This isn't the Users' world."
  58. >She stops and turns to you with a confused look, "What do you mean?"
  59. "The world the Grid was created in. Equines are not sentient. Humans build great cities."
  60. >"Humans?"
  61. "Yes..."
  62. >Twilight approaches you now, her look becoming that of someone who is deathly curious, "The structure matches," she mutters to herself. "You called us Equines? What's the full scientific term?"
  63. >You eye the village in front of you both, and indeed, there are many more where Twilight came from.
  64. "Equus ferus caballus"
  65. >Twilight's eyes widen, and she smiles, "What else do you know?"
  66. "Only what the User Kevin Flynn knew. Luckily he was a remarkable man. A genius even."
  67. >"You called yourself a human."
  68. "No, the Users are humans. I'm just a program created in their image."
  69. >"What's that word derived from?"
  70. "Homonidae. Not so much derived as a family..."
  71. >"Of species, yes yes. This is so fascinating." She looks thoughtful for a moment before continuing, "We have monkeys, gorillas, and many other primates, but nothing like you or these 'Users'."
  72. "So there are no humans here?"
  73. >"That means you come from a different world. Come on, it's only a little bit more to go, and the sooner we get there to sooner I can help you."
  74. >Walking through the town nets you a few strange looks.
  75. >Twilight is babbling about the history of the place, but the only thing you catch is that the town is called Ponyville.
  76. >Charming.
  77. >"I would take you to meet my friends, but you seem to be in a rush. Here we are!"
  78. >Her home is a tree.
  79. >A fucking tree.
  80. >Consider your jimmies rustled.
  81. >You didn't even have jimmies before today, and they are so fucking rustled right now it hurts.
  82. >Twilight's horn glows.
  83. >The door glows as well, at least until it flies open on its own.
  84. "What was that?"
  85. >"Magic."
  86. >Right.
  87. >Magic.
  88. >Of course.
  89. >Talking unicorns, houses made of trees, a world where humans didn't exist.
  90. >"Just give me a moment while I prep a spell to analyze this."
  91. "Right, because that's how EVERYTHING works."
  92. >Everything logical is thrown out the window. Fuck the grid, fuck Kril, this shit is too much for you.
  93. "Can you get me back onto the Grid?"
  94. >Twilight smiles up at you, "Of course I can."
  95. "Thank you. I want to be done with this."
  96. >"I'm going with you."
  97. "...What?"
  98. >"You need help finding this human named Sam, and I'm curious about your world. If I go with you I'll be able to find out more about what's happening."
  99. >Before you can protest the necklace in your hand starts to glow with a purple aura, and next thing you know it's floating next to Twilight's head.
  100. >"From what I can tell this thing is used to store information. If that's the case a simple analysis spell will show me how it works."
  101. "Do you have electricity here?"
  102. >"Yes."
  103. "It's electrical in nature."
  104. >"Ah, that makes this easier. Are there other things like this in... your world?"
  105. "Again, not my world, but yes. Electricity is used for all sorts of things. Devices that can communicate across the world are used on a daily basis."
  106. >"That would be EXTREMELY useful. Not everyone knows magic or has a dragon to deliver letters."
  107. "Dragon?"
  108. >Twilight smirks at you, "The sooner I figure out more about the Grid, the sooner I can tell you more about my world. I can tell you weren't listening before, but you must be a little curious."
  109. "Not enough for you to hold me hostage."
  110. >She laughs at this, and turns away from you, bringing the disk to a small desk and closing her eyes to concentrate.
  111. >Now that you get a good look at this place it appears to be a library.
  112. >After a moment of waiting Twilight takes a deep breath.
  113. >"All done. I have to say this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. This little card could revolutionize everything within five... no, TWO years."
  114. "I've got a lot more where that came from."
  115. >She turns to you, excitement gleaming in her eyes, "Where?!"
  116. >You smirk and tap a finger on your head.
  117. "I'll share it with you, but first you need to take me back into the Grid."
  118. >She looks reluctant.
  119. "Something wrong?"
  120. >"Let me leave a note."
  121. >She floats a paper and a quill in front of her and begins to write.
  122. "I think I should warn you, there are programs trying to derez me in there. You might be in danger if you go with me."
  123. >"Derez?"
  124. "Kill."
  125. >She rolls the note up with her magic and sets it on the desk she was using before.
  126. "If shit goes south in there can you get out?"
  127. >"I should be able to teleport out by reverse engineering the spell."
  128. >You sigh.
  129. "Alright. If you're sure about this let's get it over with."
  130. >You both make your way to the card, and her horn starts to glow.
  131. >Everything goes white.
  132. >You feel... at home.
  133. >When you open your eyes you can tell that you're on the grid, but not where you were thrown out.
  134. >You're in the middle of the city.
  135. >Light cars pass in your peripherals, and passerby eye the small pony at your side with either curiosity or confusion.
  136. >Twilight's jaw drops.
  137. >"Oh... my... gosh..."
  138. >Your light suit is functioning again, and your Identity Disk is back.
  139. >You pull it from your back and kneel down next to Twilight.
  140. >With the ID balanced in both of your hands, it lights up with a small hologram of the city map.
  141. "We're in the south city, in sector B. The tear and the extra code it takes for you to be here probably alerted every damn guard in the vicinity, so we should get moving."
  142. >"PROGRAM, HALT!"
  143. "Shit, too late."
  144.
  145. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H8u11KU-Ds
  146. >You latch the ID onto your back and scoop up twilight without even thinking about it.
  147. >She lets out a small squeak when a disk flies past both of you and wheels back around.
  148. >You leap into the air over the disk and land on your feet, slightly stumbling.
  149. >Coming up on an alley, you turn sharply into it.
  150. >Shit... dead end.
  151. >You turn to face the orange dickweeds coming after you two.
  152. >There's three of them.
  153. >You pull the ID from your back.
  154. >"Put me down."
  155. "Wha..."
  156. >"I want to test something, put me down."
  157. "Twilight, in case you haven't noticed, now's not exactly the time to..."
  158. >"Just do it."
  159. >You comply.
  160. >The guards start to approach you, light sticks in their hands, "Program, cease and desist or we will use lethal force."
  161. >Twilight's horn glows, and the left most program careens into the glossy wall of the alley with insurmountable force.
  162. >He let's out a scream as he derezzes.
  163. >The two remaining guards charge both of you.
  164. >You run at the closest one, ducking his light stick and caving in his chest with your ID. He derezzes instantly.
  165. >You toss your disk and it cuts the head off the second guard, wheeling back around into your hand.
  166. >Twilight's eyes are wide, her breathing heavy.
  167. >"Are they..."
  168. "They're programs Twilight, not real beings."
  169. >"But... what about you? I mean..."
  170. "Like I said. I'm not human."
  171. >"But..."
  172. >You ignore her protests and exit the alley.
  173. >The sound of her hooves are the only indication that she's following you.
