"What's in it for me?" She said. As always, her feigned civility took charge during near unwinnable situations.

"Aside from the obvious benefits, survivors will be allowed to partake in the rehabilitation experiment. It should help you deal with your problems in a... much more happy way."

"I fail to see how that stops people from coming after me."

"You will be given a new identity. By the time the rehabilitation ends, you might be unrecognizable anyway. If you survive."

"I'll survive." She said dismissively. "There's simply no point to agreeing to something if I could take my chances with something better."

"If you don't take this offer now, you'll never get the chance."

She lowered the knife. "Fine. I doubt your organization can do anything worse than I've already put myself though."

The scene faded away. It was replaced by lust. Lust for pain. Lust for the satisfaction of sinking a knife into flesh. ANY flesh. Preferably flesh that could dread the coming of the blade. She hunted. She stopped. She hunted. She killed.

Walk. Stab. Walk.

The other humanlike shapes could not compare to her experience. And when she could not reach them, she could only take the urges out on her own body.

Stab. Walk. Stab.

It was so much more overwhelming than anything she had ever felt.

The room had become devoid of any living flesh but her own. She could barely see, blood obscured her vision. She searched for that impractical torture dagger.

She plunged it into herself superficially until she lost conscious.

The dream shifted form again. The urges had diminished, but something primal remained.

"We need you to answer some questions."

"Go ahead." She hated questions, but she had no power here.

"Our instruments detected an inhuman reaction time. Our analysis showed that you would detect an attacker as soon as their eyes had focused on you, but before they actually made any overtly agressive gestures with their muscles. Can you tell us how you noticed that?"

"Instinct."

"Is that it? What kind of instinct?"

"I guess, it just felt like my blood was pulsing in that direction."

"Is that how your intuition normally worked before the implantation?"

"In a manner of speaking, but not quite. I didn't have direction or motive. A feeling. That was all."

"You hurt yourself again. Do you know why?"

"I just need an outlet."

"..." There was a change in the voice. "I don't think that's the whole answer. Care to say more?"

"I am a threat."

"Pardon?"

"Your fluids make me need to eliminate threats. I am a threat. But I must survive. Yet, I am a threat. I can't understand."

"We will work on it. You have been outstanding help. I sincerely hope you survive all the tests."

"Why?"

"Maybe it's not my place, but a lot of us here find you charming."

"I haven't heard anybody say that to me since my first outburst."

"Well, I think if it weren't for those problems in your head, you might have been quite the- Ah, yes I'm sorry. They don't like it when we humanize the experiments."

"Researchers normally don't do that."

"Well, I'm a bit above the rules. You might say I'm one of the monsters in charge of this place."

"...I see. So you are rewarding me by gracing me with your presence, is that it?"

"You caught me."

"And maybe, you'll worm your way into my little black heart so that you can make sure I remain compliant."

"You are a very cynical girl aren't you?"

"Optimism doesn't thrive here."

"I know at least one other test subject who might disagree with you, but we all know she's faking."

"I don't care."

"Well, if you'll let me buy my way into your... what did you say? 'little black heart'? I'll give you something."

"I want my knife back."

"Ah, that one?"

"Yes."

"...Interesting. Okay, we will let you have that knife."

"Thank you."

"I have nothing more to say. My associate will resume."

Yuri groggily opened her eyes. The symptoms weren't so bad anymore.

"Unnnh.... Natsuki...?"

Her eyes landed on Natsuki. She was badly wounded. There were multiple bandages all over her body. The medical crate was strewn all over the floor.

"Ah... good, it worked." Natsuki looked like she was having trouble breathing.

"Natsuki! Are you alright?! Did you get hit by the traps?"

"Big... time. But I... managed to... not get... completely skewered."

"What's wrong with your breathing?"

"Ah... it's nothing... I just had.... a bad reaction... to the treatments... It'll pass... supposedly."

"Let me look you over jsut in case." Yuri started collecting some medical supplies.

"No argument... from me..." She said, wheezing. "Probably gonna.... take it easy... for a bit though..."
