Why hasn't he seen his younger brother in years?

His brother came out as gay to him and at the time Zan was homophobic. Zan said some very hurtful things and refused to see his brother ever again. When Zan started questioning his sexuality he finally reached out to Chun and apologized for everything.

What's his relationship with his family?

With his parents it's pretty tense. Even before the divorce he felt like he was always walking on egg shells, trying to be the perfect son and aiming towards perfect grades. He felt like he was always drowning, when his parents finally divorced he felt happy and free in Korea. His father was very busy with work and as wrong as it sounds, Zan was glad. Zan could be himself without worrying about anything. With Chun, it is now going smoothly and now they are just regular brothers, with the occasional argument of who is better, Yixing or Jackson.

When has his 'I don't take things seriously' trait backfired on him?

Zan dated a girl back in China and he was very happy. He thought that she was too, but boy was he wrong. The girl was frustrated with his immature attitude and finally snapped and broke up with him. The last straw was when Zan met her parents and wasn't as respectful as he should have been, even making a perverted joke in front of him. It's then that Zan learned that there are times when he should be serious.
