History: Minamoto no Tametomo was a samurai who fought in the Hogen Rebellion of 1156, a civil war of succession for the Chrysanthemun Throne. When the young Emperor Konoe died, a power struggle erupted between his two uncles, Go-Shirakawa and Emperor Sutoku, who had abdicated the throne 15 years ago. This dispute between the two brothers was mirrored by the divisions within the noble families over which side to take, including the Minamoto and the Taira.

In the climax of the war, Tametomo and his father defended Sutoku's palace from Taira forces and Minamoto no Tameyoshi, Tametomo's brother. Samurai on both sides exchanged arrows in a number of archery duels. Eventually, however, the palace was burned down, and everyone but Tametomo was captured and/or killed. This war cemented the Taira and the Minamoto as the two major political powers in Japan, and established a rivalry that would culminate in the Genpei Wars decades later.

The tendons in Tametomo's left arm were cut in the battle, meaning he could not use a bow effectively for a time. However, he quickly regained his strength and journeyed south to the Izu-oshima islands, where he married into the local governor's family and had three
children. He then took over the neighboring island of Okinawa, where he married into yet another ruling family and fathered Shunten, the first of many great kings of Okinawa. In the process of taking over these islands he is said to have slain many demons.

Seeking to clean up loose ends, the Taira clan sent a fleet of twenty ships to kill him. He donned his armor, waded into the water and began loosing arrows. He was able to draw back his bow with such force that a single shot was powerful enough to pierce the hull of the Taira ships and sink some of them. While his enemies stopped to collect their sinking brethren he fired his last few arrows and retired back into his home. He stripped off his armor, took out a knife, and cut himself across the abdomen.

He leaned against a pillar and closed his eyes, bleeding to death in a serene, albeit painful fashion. When the Taira soldiers made it to the island they invaded his home and found him, back propped against the pillar, he was sitting so upright and stalwart that they didn’t believe he was dead. Finally a brave soldier stepped forward and cut off Tametomo’s head.

Thus a brave end to a brave man, Minamoto no Tametomo, the first recorded case of seppuku.

During the Heian era, use of archery in battle increased dramatically, and Archer emerged as one of the most famous warrior archers. His mastery of the bow allows him to make full use of his skill while under any mental interference effect up to an equivalent rank.

Archer was said to be exceptionally tall and powerful compared to other samurai, and that his arrows (which are sized for the archer) were oversized and his bow took five men to drawback. His STR and END are always ranked-up.

Guardian Beasts: B
Archer can summon three unique familiars: two wolves and a crane. The wolves, named Yokaze and Yamao, serve as hunters and flankers comparable to E-rank Servants. The crane is a guide and a scout. These animal companions served Archer faithfully during his adventures.

Description: Archer's bow complements his fighting style, which is simple and direct. Due to his stature, the bow is oversized and can only fire his modified arrows. Arrows shot from this bow are more analogous to high-caliber sniper rounds than wooden shafts. Their true strength lies in their piercing power, leaving coin-sized holes in anything that Archer aims at and not losing any momentum until they are buried deep in the ground. Combined with Archer's keen aim he can bring down any target with a precision strike.

Description: Archer's left arm, which was said to be four inches longer than his right, giving him a much greater draw with his bow. Said to be blessed by the dragon gods of the storm, it gives Archer an automatic rank-up to attacks made with his bow. By invoking the name of the storm dragon, a magic crest in the form of a vibrant tattoo depicting stormclouds and lightning bolts appears on his arm, giving him a rank-up to STR and giving his next shot the attribute of 'lightning'.
