  1. -- Shita's Rice Cooker Asian-Style Rice --
  2. -- NOTES --------------------------------
  3. - I use an Aroma 8-cup Rice Cooker. It was $40 and imo very worth it. But really any rice cooker will do.
  4. - The best types of rice to use are Calrose or Nishiki rice. Any jasmine rice will also work, but jasmine rice is aromatic
  5. and will bring a slightly different flavor to the dish. Calrose + Nishiki can be found in a lot of grocery stores. I get them from
  6. my local Meijer. I've tried both - they're very similar.

  28. -- RECIPE ------------------------------
  29. 1. In your rice cooker, add 1 scoop, or 3/4c, rice. Fill water to appropriate line. In the Aroma cooker, this is Line 1. Add 2 tablespoons water. Add in 2 tsp Mirin, 2 tsp Sesame Oil, 1/4 tsp salt, a few splashes of lemon juice, and pepper to taste.
  30. 2. Cook rice using the appropriate setting.
  31. 3. Assemble the sauce while the rice is cooking. In a very small bowl, add approximately 1 tablespoon of Oyster Sauce. Splash in a few dashes of lemon juice. Pour in a small amount of soy sauce and stir, until the consistency is that of a light syrup. Add in more soy sauce until the consistency is right. It should be somewhat liquid-y, but not overly so. Finally, add 1 tsp sugar. Stir, and set aside (in fridge) until the rice is done.
  32. 4. When rice is done, scoop into a serving plate (or, optionally, dress inside the rice cooker). Sprinkle a small amount of Mirin onto the rice, and 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar onto rice. Add Oyster/Soy Sauce mixture onto rice. Sprinkle a generous helping of sesame seeds on top, and garnish with green onions.
