  1. Meet the Benefactor
  2.
  3. In a realm beyond realms, between the never-was and the could-be, sat a Being. This infinitely-large-yet-so-small being sat upon a throne more suited for a mortal, only a couple of Earth meters high. And through what might have been eyes, it saw a man, a human, on a small blue and green planet going about it's short life, as did so many others. The Being cared little for the others. The Being only had plans for this specific one.
  4.
  5. The Being had found itself bored in future eons, so decided to change that. It was going to watch a story unfold, for real this time. Not content to simply view infinity anymore, it desired to set in motion its own works. Decision made, the Being began to move. It could do this with a snap of its fingers, but felt this required a bit of flair.
  6.
  7. The Being reached into the void of white and black and a thousand other colours with a hand the size of a planet but that could comfortably wrap around a small ball. It reached in and pulled, and as it pulled shards of light started to flow to it. These shards were made of pure energy, made from what could have been and what might be. They were pure Concentrated Potential.
  8. Taken moments before universes and multiverses were born, they stopped them in their tracks, dooming them never to exist. So many beings no longer to be born. So many sights never to be seen. But then, what was one universe to an infinity? What was a million or a million million? There would always be more. And from these shards, this Being forged its creation. Thousands upon thousands of tiny balls of swirling incandescent light. A mortal might find themselves content to stare at those balls for the rest of their days. But the Being had a different plan in mind. It placed them into a frameworks, a curious thing made by the mortals themselves, not knowing that which they made. They called it a Jumpchain, and as far as they could comprehend it, it was exactly that. But yet it was also so much more. Using this, the mortal would be able to transform in ways it hadn't thought possible and use powers it had only ever dreamed about. But that is a story that is yet to come.
  9.
  10. The Being made a machine, a computer that would provide this 'Jumper' with options that it may pick. There would be no direct interaction. It was better this way. If the man met this being, he would get it into his head that he needed to please the Being. Once that happened the man would start to do increasingly self destructive things in the name of entertainment, culminating in his death only a few short decades in. That just wouldn't do. The Being needed entertainment for countless more years. It couldn't just change the mentality of the man either. The fun would to be natural, not forced. And so the computer was completed and put in a small sealed space reminiscent of an empty warehouse before being sent of to the lower world. If things went correctly, and they would, the warehouse wouldn't stay empty for long.
  11.
  12. In a realm beyond realms, an incomparable Being gazed at a man. And it smiled. And in front of the man, on a primitive computer a few words appeared as if by magic:
  13. "Do you want to go on an adventure?"
  14. Yes? No?
