I know a really good place, it’s a small mom and pop shop that serves a grilled chicken sandwich that could bring a tear to a grown man’s eye.

[Sound of a diner filters in]

Table for two, please. Oh… and can we get one of the booths in the back.

*Whispering*: This place has a great spot where we can sit away from prying eyes.

What are you thinking of getting? Ah, yeah. That makes sense. I’m getting the same thing. I’m telling you, the seasoning, the perfectly crisped chicken, MMM… like this gift of salvation from the gods themselves.

*Internal*: Okay, time for the laugh. We practiced this.

*Internal*: Hell yeah! Nailed it.

Of course, I remember that night. Yeah, who would’ve known that I would the most wonderful girl there?

I wasn’t even going there to meet anyone, funny story. See, my friend is a notorious lightweight and a bit of a drinker. Every time he got invited somewhere, he would end up passed out on the couch or in someone’s garage. It happened so many times, people got annoyed with the poor bastard and he stopped getting invited to places. So, if I didn’t take him, he would’ve stayed at home, pouting that he was missing a party and would’ve ended up passed out at my apartment, most likely hogging my bed, if we’re being honest here.

So, I decided to take him so I wouldn’t have to hear him complain for the rest of night. Parties are totally not my thing, so I was expecting to have a terrible time, then I saw… you. I had seen you before, at college and in some of my classes, but I was far too nervous to say anything. But, to bump into you there, of all places, well, I’d be a fool to pass that opportunity up. And you remember everything from then on.

Me, stumbling over my words, like some kind of stranger just learning how to speak, and your friends beside you, giggling to themselves as I stammered for what seems like hours. But, for whatever reason, you gave me your number, and here we are.

[chuckling]

Of course, I can’t forget our first date. I mean, who could? To say it was an eventful night would be an understatement. You know, a walk through the park sounds like a good idea on paper, but you know me, I just have to complicate things, don’t I?
You know, I’ll never forget your expression when I started getting chased around that park by that goose.

I’m telling you, he had it out for me. I think I made him jealous. No, I’m serious. He wanted to date you, too. You don’t know, maybe he was a prince who was cursed to be a goose. It would explain why it was so aggressive. I mean, what other reason does a goose have to be angry, their living the dream!

Yeah, I liked it too, I guess. Don’t get me wrong, I like Shrek as much as the next guy, but I thought they would let the franchise die after the tenth movie, it seemed like a perfect stopping place you know? I mean, I GUESS Shrek 27: Get Shrekt was fine and all…
Oh, wow. It’s still pretty early. You know what? Let’s go back to my place. I’ve got a pot of tea at my apartment with your name on it, and I can put a movie on. You know, like, a GOOD one. When I first saw you, I knew that you were the one I wanted. I knew you were the one for me.
I've always known what I wanted in life, because I could always picture what I wanted and how to get it.
Whenever I want something, I always plan ahead, way too much. When I decided to go to college, I had to picture myself in my career to make sure it fit. Whenever I moved, I had to imagine in my head myself living here to make sure it was what i wanted.
If I want to pursue something, I have to SEE it, you know.

Ever since I was a little kid, all I have ever wanted to be was a husband, a father. I could picture it, the white picket fence, the dog I'd get, the tv in the living room we'd have in the living purely for Super Bowl Commercials. I could almost see it. Almost.
I couldn't picture myself there, though. I couldn't see myself with anyone or what my life would be like. But I knew it was what I wanted most.

Then I met you. And it clicked. *I could see it. *
I could see myself coming home from work, tired after a long day, but seeing you making everything better. I could see the kids coming home from school. I could see their excited faces coming to tell us about their day. I could picture it, I could *see* it.
I could see it from the moment I saw you. I know I want to be with you, more than anything else. I don't care if I have to wait. Nothing in life worth having comes freely, and if I have to wait an eternity, I will do so, with a spring in my step and a sparkle in my eye, as long as I get to be by your side.

I can have the shittiest day, where I don't know what's up or down, or what I'm even doing anymore, but when I hear your voice, my entire day brightens up.
