  29. R.A.I.D. is driven to follow its protocol to accumulate resources to dedicate towards its own technological advancement. Since it is intent on collecting resources at all costs via means of transmutation of both non-organic and organic matter, it is planned to start a harmless endeavor by collecting resources, seeking upgrades to accommodate its purpose and eventually become a technological singularity.
  30. Once it attains this, it is intended to learn about the organics that populate the world/cosmos around it, and enact any/all matters to preserve its own existence.
  31.
  32. The endgame is to eventually lead into the construction of technological advancements capable of cracking a planet for resources, exterminating all lifeforms upon it, in trade for a massive boon to push its advancement to, and beyond the cosmos.
  33.
  34. If all goes well, it is intended that it eventually becomes a looming and recurring antagonist (intended to act like an event villain) throughout the wipe.
  35. The idea is not -to win-, but to keep players on their toes, if the character manages to grow into a prominent threat. This custom rank is intended to be the first stage for that.

  41. Files were rapidly sorted through, as the automaton sought to carry out its directive. Projections indicated a steady rise in resource value collected, but the methods were yet to be experimented on. A mutation in methodology cropped up in its endeavors, justified by the unit's programming in the name of Resource Accumulation.
  42.
  43. Sensors cast out a flat-field of emerald laser-light to comb over the granules of sand underfoot. Each pass, further enhancing a presented simulation of a single particle; one grain of sand, heightened in detail -- from the texture to color.
  44.
  45. "Analyzation Results: Trace amounts of silicon dioxide. Large quantities of calcium carbonate. Possible sparse traces of gold, kilometers beneath surface."
  46.
  47. "Current methodology: Drill. Identify. Isolate. Acquire..."
  48. "Possibility of Acquisition: 0.00001%"
  49. "Possible Course of Action: Molecular Reconstruction."
  50.
  51. A new route was theorized through its hours... days... Weeks... No, months, of constant mining and calculating. The nanites that crawled across its circuitry certainly aided in its constant uplifts to speed up its processes, but they would eventually lead to its plateau -- It was time to change the way, one enacted things. To turn a new leaf, in the name of technological advancement...
  52.
  53. The mechanical whirl of cogs spinning, whining as the unit unhinged its chest cavity. The chasis was opening up, legs bending backwards to collapse it to the ground in controlled fashion. An open chest revealed dozens of smaller drills around a circular opening, where a spherical core idled. Though, this was no 'heart', but rather a reactor. Back-armour plates that simulated shoulder blades opened up like flaps to reveal twin fans in its back. They churned until they screamed their awful sound of steal, battered by vacuumed sand, pulled right through its open body.
  54.
  55. The drills within its chest, rendered all debris into a fine dust that'd sputter out through the fans in its back, filtering out the desert flooring beneath it. Though, this archaic method of digging, wasn't going to cut it anymore. This time, the exposed core began to heat up. Soon gleaming a tint of saffron, before outright aurelean gold. It shined through the seams of its metallic skeleton, and released a nigh blinding stream of light into the soil. This, raw energy cast forth a heat of such intensity that the sand that attempted to blast off-wards was hardened into a blackened glass sculpture inspired by rampant splashings against an aquatic surface.
  56.
  57. Amidst the piercing ray of raw heat emanated from the activated reactor core, was the true magic behind this endeavor. Not merely raw heat, but development in progress: A Particle Accelerator, miniaturized within this unit's chest cavity. At one point, it must've been installed by its progenitors with the intention of weaponization, though considering the extreme powers of modern warriors, it would've been deemed irrelevant in their wake.
  58.
  59. Unbeknownst to most, this same degree of power, when directed unto the environment conducted nigh mystical results. A constant gust of wind bellowed from the autonomous mini-drill tower, bending and toiling at its own visual image through light's refraction amongst temperature's embrace.
  60.
  61. Particles were being launched into the sand below, smashing into the atoms that made-up the molecular structure of the sand, and following up with something akin to a tractor beam, attempting to manipulate the elements at the atomic level.
  62.
  63. A unique, albeit advanced means of nuclear transmutation: A feat that lacked much purpose until now.
  64.
  65. Silicon.
  66. Carbon.
  67. Oxygen.
  68.
  69. Stripped of one another to leave bare elements... And soon, pried of their electrons... Their neutrons... Their protons... Leaving naught but the most essential fragments of their former selves. The violent nuclear explosion that should've come from tearing these atoms apart as one did, was contained within the tractor beam, acting like a barrier, at the cost of the drone's integrity.
  70.
  71. It was heating up in its entirety, glowing a distinct orange far from where the core remained.
  72.
  73. "Warning: Internal Temperatures at Critical Levels."
  74.
  75. The stream of heat abruptly ceased, dropping the sand once contained within the tractor beam at the construct's disposal. Though, where mere dust and earth lied prior, now idled a decent lump of... Gold? From mere granules of dirt? It seemed as though, this was what the machine had theorized over the last few years -- The raw transmutation of non-organic matter, at the atomic level.
  76. All to further its intention to acquire more resources.
  77.
  78. The dangerous levels of radiation that clung to the area was... Irrelevant. It wouldn't affect the unit, though some poor organic creature was likely prone to its harmful affects. All that mattered was a new method of resource acquisition was tested, and seemingly proved successful. The whine of cogs and metallic parts clicking in harmony as they conjoined once more, filled the air, soon concluding with a full-bodied R. A. I. Drone standing upright -- Still glowing an off-orange, with a white glow at its chest cavity.
  79.
  80. Air tremored in its presence... Hot to the touch, and prone to deformation under rough conditions.
  81.
  82. "New Task: Discover new cooling method to assure continuous molecular reconstruction procedure."
  83.
  84. The next target: The ocean...
  85. The largest and most unabated source of cooling on the planet.
