  54. dolphino 14:35:05
  55. It's important to remember the typical religious person is highly unaware -- they label many of their own psychological processes as gods, devils, and angels.
  56. Mabus 14:35:07
  57. a rectal exam for a vasectomy
  58. RealNews 14:35:23

  82. vidkun i told you not to mess with her
  83. dolphino 14:38:48
  84. It's quite natural for our species to act the way Christians do -- it's more natural than modernity.
  85. That's why we had to do that first to realize it's terrible before we invented modernity.
  86. The problem is that it doesn't work anymore in modernity with nuclear weapons and climate change.
  87. And they'll kill all of us if they win.
  88. Marmie 14:40:10
  89. dolphino: maybe you should elaborate some on this
  90. dolphino 14:40:22
  91. In what regard?
  92. Joel 14:40:30
  93. the trolls trolling the trolls, this is great
  94. Marmie 14:40:51
  95. in the regard of the connection between nuclear weapons and the viability of christian societies
  96. dolphino 14:41:00
  97. Sure.
  98. Christian societies like the kind we see in the GOP are supremacist societies that are long-term unstable in global civilization.
  99. They're built off strict hierarchies rooted in social narratives that are dependent on everybody having the same factional ideology. When they do, they can be highly stable, e.g. Mormonism in Utah.
  100. ← sexc has left (Ping timeout)
  101. Marmie 14:42:35
  102. well, that doesn't make any sense: the GOP is not a "society"
  103. ← ToolKit has left (Quit: )
  104. dolphino 14:42:59
  105. So, why not have the whole world be one of these religiously homogenous societies, then? Because not everybody wants to be in the same one.

  109. dolphino 14:43:42
  110. At the global scale, there are competing religious narratives trying to be the One and Only Way. So, even if the GOP is successful in its attempt to overthrow American democracy, they'll have to contend with other polities.
  111. Marmie 14:44:33
  112. this is just an extremely long-winded version of "nuclear weapons are bad because there will be wars in the future"
  113. dolphino 14:45:06
  114. How do systems organized in such a way deal with competing groups, some of which are organized in similar ways? Well, truth and justice are not central values -- the social narrative is (which have ancient, weak version of truth and justice involved). So, they will resolve the conflict by falling back on their supremacist narrative. This lead to little listening, little empathy, and lots of aggression.
  115. Marmie 14:45:48
  116. or they avoid the conflict just by staying out of each other's ways
  117. dolphino 14:45:51
  118. You have to remember that much of what we call 'theism' is actually part of the human genetic program for genocide. Humans who think they're "the chosen of some god" know they're right and are expressing they're ready to do intense acts to live out their truth.
  119. This is an efficient strategy for competing groups with access to sticks and rocks 90k years ago -- it doesn't work in modernity.
  120. Nuclear weapons were developed by modern processes and must be governed by modern processes.
  121. I'll now address your points.
  122. The GOP can be conceptualized as a society directly, and metonymically, which is how I mostly meant it.
  123. As a metonym, I meant 'those parts of the United States with high rates of GOP involvement and dominance with the resultant observable culture'.
  124. Your second post was a wrong guess.
  125. Marmie 14:48:48
  126. the GOP can maybe be "conceptualized" as a society, that would be mistaken however since it isn't one
  127. dolphino 14:49:20
  128. No, religious supremacist systems like evangelical Christianity and much of Islam don't and can't stay out of each other's way. Again, they're acting out the genocide program that we call theism; part of that program is contact, war, domination, sexual breeding, and replication.
  129. You appear to be addressing the direct interpretation which is mostly not appropriate as it wasn't my meaning.
  130. dolphino 14:50:59
  131. Theism is a socially adapted neural program to encourage humans to work together for common survival and replication goals
  132. "A society is a group of individuals involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social group sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations."
  133. Marmie 14:51:20
  134. your perceived connection between the availability of nuclear weapons and the efficiency of attempted genocides appears to be gravely mistaken; the worst genocide in modern times occurred in Rwanda and it most certainly did not involve nuclear weapons
  135. dolphino: and in which physical location is the GOP the dominant political authority?
  136. dolphino 14:52:13
  137. This is an interesting point, but a strict non sequitur to my claims.
  138. I did not claim that genocide is more efficient with nuclear weapons.
  139. Marmie 14:52:59
  140. then nuclear weapons seems entirely irrelevant to whatever point you're trying to make
  141. dolphino 14:53:40
  142. My thesis is that with the power of nuclear weapons, fucking up a little bit is disastrous and religion is not suitable for the implications of nuclear weapons, therefore increasing the likelihood of fucking up.
  143. Marmie: The minority faction that is the GOP is the current dominant political authority in the United States.
  144. Marmie 14:54:25
  145. you are confusing "nuclear weapon" and "doomsday device"
  146. dolphino 14:54:40
  147. They're in the midst of a coup, attempting to overthrow the republic and replace it with a religious, one-party rule.
  148. Marmie: Your claim of "entirely irrelevant" is indefensible.
  149. Marmie 14:55:34
  150. and *that* is a real, honest true-to-Baal non sequitur there! the dominant political authority can, by its very nature, not be attempting a coup
  151. dolphino 14:55:37
  152. Example: I have a stochastic process that is normally distributed according to (0,1). I die when it outputs 3.5.
  153. Next, I have a stochastic process for a religious organization that is distributed according to (0,2). I die when it outputs 3.5.
