  7. This article spoke about the concept of evolution, and a handful of the major theories about its patterns and processes. One of the first successful explanations of evolution was proposed by Charles Darwin, with the main component being the idea that existing species and variations were caused by natural selection, also known as survival of the fittest. One of Darwin's theories that had gaps in it was his idea of inheritance, which he didn't completely understand himself. In the early 20th century, Gregor Mendel's previous work came to light, when his ideas of Genetics were adapted into Darwin's existing ideas. The article continues on to describe the evolution of our evolution theories themselves, and where we are today.
