- Album: 3D Country it's dudes rock but quirky and psychedelic yeehaw. i will not elaborate
- 2122: 4 geese save us we need dudes rocking. all the religion and mythology mentions in this song in fact are Lol bro truly is just saying things (like caroline does but less annoying). the baba yaga mention is so ????? love he says it right. anyway this isn't rush nor is it blues traveler (runaround get it). this is so silly (compliment) what are these guys even Doing. chaotic
- 3D Country: 5 it's 1996 college radio core. in idk colorado but it's summer. trust me. (now not sure if i meant this comment for this song or another one but allow it. it's also very rollingstonescoded but that could be a lot of tracks on this album) roman empire mention that's his roman empire or. idk the great wall um ming dynasty mention thats *my* roman empire. geese lyrics make them more entertaining because they are so ????? and nonsensical. "make a dead man die" ??????????
- Cowboy Nudes: 6 lmao i was just thinking they are like the stones but more. silly. well the stones could be silly. the backing vocals are giving uhhhh what stones song gimme shelter maybe. "it's giving the stones" when you are a former rockhead who spends too much time on popheads. lmao the gd conga solo SILLY. these guys either did a lot of substances or are simply Like This or most likely both. just looked up what a barranca is (some kind of steep canyon)
- I See Myself: 6 we could live in the sea... vibe. this is very stonescoded too. album cut on side a of one their late 70s records when they slow down and jam a bit. truly just dudes fing around ESPECIALLY the cowbell
- Undoer: 4 going to meme about the book of revelation for this cut. "ending the war feeding the poor" sermon on the mount mention but burning 'em all is the bottomless pit of course. meteor fell to earth = and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; and the name of the star is called Wormwood see??? it's all in there!!! the truth of biblical prophecy. why does this guy sound like a more deranged thom yorke at that one part
- Crusades: 4 altrighters being like "deus vult" when they live on hot pockets yet think they could fight in armour against saladin's troops. no but all the christianity mentions give me a lot to work with here so be glad i am not truly On One today. like the council of nicaea mention are you serious lmao. (hot take apostle's creed outsold)
- Gravity Blues: 5 very stonescoded too (though they would literally just steal old blues songs. lol.)
- Mysterious Love: 3 "it switches up so much it's hard to get a grip on. the nmixx of rock groups" - /u/ignorableaurochs. o no. a Chaotic Noise ending i hate that trope. dumb! "dislike this cut going to post about radiohead in the comment on it" i said but i have nothing now sorry !
- Domoto: 5 quoth i "let's see if domoto can save us idk not much of a melody lyrics a bit Bleak too" o no
- Tomorrow's Crusades: 4 the Bit is wearing off i am glad we have only two tracks left lmao. bro is just saying things still but it's getting annoying. let's move on already to the last track buddy. still stonescoded to the end
- St. Elmo: 5 need something Silly to make me lol before the dirge that is caroline. this will do well enough for now idk. not enough of a Bit.
- Album: Desire, I Want to Turn Into You "[redacted] Today at 3:00 PM *I know you have a Thing about her nonsense lyrics and her being a low-rent Hana or similar*" "vayyiqra — Today at 3:00 PM *yes. that is exactly it. what if Art Pop Girlie sound like hana but very pretentious and annoying and overrated*"
- Welcome to My Island: 4 okay 80s larp but. the lyrics being gibberish doesn't bother me with geese or other artists but does with her because she thinks she's being Poetic and she is merely spewing nonsense. this bridge or whatever is also lowrent marina somehow dont ask
- Pretty in Possible: 5 i may take a lot to get through this album. uhh she's doing a capella scatting something uhh. ancient greekposting is all i've got uhh "threading the needles" NOT THE MOIRAI "oracle and odyssey" AGAMEMNON MENTIONED !?!?
- Bunny is a Rider: 1 disgrace to tropical pop yes i mean it. p*tchfork named this song of the year lmao. bs ditty. uhh maybe it has something to do with substances or. something. who cares. (tanking this. but billi0ns is the true evil that must be defeated) my friend showed me this when it came out and thought i would love it. she loved it. i did not. cheeses me off. nonsense song.
- Sunset: 4 "sunset is landfill latin music" quoth i. "and these bs vocals trying to larp as catholiccoded" not sure if i meant that for this song but it fits many of hers
- Crude Drawing of an Angel: 5 "this song is maybe ok or is it either way i must make a neon genesis evangelion meme about it" quoth i. "a crude angel's thesis" that's it! that's all you get! "this is just 'arcane magic' but shitty" i also said. when hanadriel rate. the um. synth is ok shoutout danny harle for making it sound good
- I Believe: 7 "the caroline garage larp bs cut (this is an indieheads ballot so i am going to type like wane)" quoth i. "lmao the synth hits" "it is 80s it sounds like tears for fears or pet shop boys or some other 80s pop artist that is actually good" "this is so landfill electronica" i was On One about this cut and hate that it baited me into kind of liking it lmao. "is she going for christianitycoded again o no you see why she is genetically engineered to annoy me" i then said
- Fly to You (feat. Grimes & Dido): 8 o no the grimes cut. and this was my favourite track on the album. lol
- Blood & Butter: 2 disgusting title. unfortunately i like the instrumental at one part but still. more bs lyrics that mean nothing. makes me angry. where sufjan. save me greek jesus. "she is at her peak of Just Saying this means absolutely nothing" quoth i. " under the linden ... you will NEVER be dragostea din tei".
- Hopedrunk Everasking: 6 "this song feels like it's shooting for vespertine but Not good" "well it needs a microbeat" quoth i. not sure why i wrote this now it made sense at the time. um it's kind of "pretty but boring in that 'god turn me into a flower' weyes blood way"
- Butterfly Net: 4 butterfly... you will NEVER be grimes. or the eight million kpop songs with butterfly in the name idk. whatever the case it's going for new age meets y2k alt downtempo pop, but more boring. at least it sounds good
- Smoke: 6 another great example of how this whole album is "slick-sounding nonsense, style over substance". zero emotion from anything on it but annoyance. volcano? lady you will never be sufjan !!!
- Billions: 0 "billi0ns will be destroyed" - me about this song and i guess also robert j. oppenheimer being worried about the misuse of nuclear weapons during the cold war. anyway i hate this song ! and have been nothing but consistent about it. peak meaningless caroline lyrics, pretentious. i said many moons ago "i will gladly explain in a wane-length comment all my gripes with billions when the time comes" and i did write a comment somewhere about that and now i can't find it ! dang. (but trust me i could if you really want)
- Dang: 1 i give up this is so bad it's like self-parody. now i don't have another comment ready so instead i'll say here sorry i've been such a hater this whole album, but i really do not like or get it at all, and the fact it sounds like the kind of music i would normally eat up only makes it worse. but this song doesn't even sound like vayybait music at all, it's just annoying lmao so i don't feel bad at all about tanking it
- Album: Rat Saw God rly struggled with this album. Not My Thing at all musically i am very over this kind of grungy-sounding indie rock though i liked it as a kid. but my stumbling block that kept it from being enjoyable even more so was what i called the "lyrics going for Americana but in an 'america sucks the rural south sucks' way and i do not vibe with it". "growing up was bad, here's a hyperspecific detailed story about bad things" and i can theoretically relate even! given many, many bad things have happened to me in my life and i could talk about them at great length too. but all i get here is "i am sure this Hits Hard for someone but that someone is not me". i described this kind of storytelling music as "in the line at the panera bread at a rest stop" confessional indie lyrics; they love stuff like "i was in the line at the grocery store ... thinking about how messed up that time was when that thing happened ..." it's a trope, it's a meme. i knew this stuff was drawing on real experiences for them so i didn't want to be too flippant but also i don't get anything out of that kind of songwriting you know? it's not cathartic for me, it's just whatever. i guess i like a more abstract? poetic? (that sounds pretentious sorry but idk a better word) approach to writing about such Experiences. instead i'm just left feeling bleak and empty when she tells me this in such plain wording. and again i can relate to a lot of this! and at least this band goes for songs that are clearly about something instead of going too far in the other direction like caroline and writing impenetrable meaningless gibberish but eh it's just not my thing. i respect what they're trying to do but don't enjoy it. sorry to this band
- Hot Rotten Grass Smell: 5 "opening track is very 90s altrock coded not sure i like" yeah still don't
- Bull Believer: 6 "track 2 is also very collegeradiocore" i quoth "giving landfill 90s grunge-adjacent" "if i heard this as a kid on tv in the 90s i might think wow this is so cool and edgy but today. ehhh" yeah i stand by saying that before. "yeah these vocals are. not very good sorry to this woman" "she's going for that whiny moany thing that many Cool Alternative Bands did back then but ehhh" and the mortal kombat refs come on now. be serious. it's weird this song is about a friend of hers who died? i did not get that from the song itself at all but from an interview. not to police someone else's grief but this isn't an approach to writing about something that heavy that connects with me
- Got Shocked: 5 wild how she makes this story about something that could've been so dangerous sound so dull
- Formula One: 4 this is dreary and sorry to this band but the imagery they're trying to bring to mind here and the everyday life kind of stories they tell are not interesting to me
- Chosen to Deserve: 5 "and the slide guitar (we are on track 4) we are going country-adjacent this is some neil young larp" i think i meant track 5 (?) anyway don't abuse OTC medications that's not good to. mess around with that even though i get it's out of boredom and lack of opportunity and so on. i said "o no she's doing the Confessional Indie thing of telling hyperspecific stories about past traumas" see i get why that kind of songwriting exists and it hits for some but it's not my style. for hardhitting lyrics about traumatic stuff i greatly prefer mr. stevens his music is much more my thing
- Bath County: 3 so she's jesus but with more pee mentions (as in the last song). weird way to tell stories like this. but idk maybe Not For Me i guess. and the fuzz i am not feeling that either sorry for being baby ears!
- Quarry: 4 "remember when we all got wasted and snuck into that party and looked at the stars-" NO LADY I WASN'T THERE ^ this kind of songwriting" i said. a bit cheeky but is it wrong idk. lady i am sorry for your adverse experiences but
- Turkey Vultures: 3 i am sorry for being repetitive but these droning vocals about bad stuff that happens in small towns in america are just so not my vibe and i am from a smallish town (in canada) with some kind of bleak sides to it but this is Not my kind of music at all. i did say "to be fair at least it has some energy which a lot of Confessional Indie doesn't". but then i also said "track 6 rly flew by and was a lot of Nothing and "track 7 is giving This Sure Is An Indie Rock Song of All Time". i am struggling here ok
- What's So Funny: 2 i found this unbelievably dull sorry i got nothing out of this song
- TV in the Gas Pump: 5 i can't do these "standing in line at trader joe's i thought of some bleak memory" type lyrics but the guitar is okay
- Album: Javelin don't have much to say about this album it's great i don't listen to it often because it's sad (though not as brutal as carrie & lowell) but i'm not in the mood for it often. i am a big fan of mr. stevens especially his more electronic work and his lyrics about his experiences with traumas and so on which are often relatable and his approach to religion and so on he is a smart and cool guy who is good at music things. however i haven't felt anything like the brutal year he had with grief and illness and can only hope he's doing okay now and gotten better he doesn't deserve all the pain he's had heaped on him no one does. but great album anyway sad but very pretty
- Goodbye Evergreen: 8 i didn't care too much for this and its noisy part but there are pretty parts too and it's meant to be painful and i get that ... bleak
- A Running Start: 10 why are the lyrics to this so simple yet evocative why is mr. stevens so good at writing music
- Will Anybody Ever Love Me: 11 yes ... (affirmation) though i know it's small i want love for us all ...
- Everything That Rises: 9 (1 Thessalonians) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
- Genuflecting Ghost: 9 ghost that you cannot ignore ...
- My Red Little Fox: 10 "on this song it stands out he says the fire of gods = pentecost. on pentecost the apostles had a vision of fire that came down into the room they were in and they received the spirit = they had holy gifts to do miracles and so on. much debate today over if this is simply a Bible Story or if miracles are still a thing. that the spirit bestows" quoth i and this view is called cessationism if you wish to know
- So You Are Tired: 10 yes ... yes i am ...
- Javelin (To Have & To Hold): 9 sad ...
- Shit Talk: 10 yes ... would be good to have no more ... of that
- There's a World: 10 love neil ... ontario mention
- BONUS TRACKS
- boygenius - Not Strong Enough: 2 i do not care for this kind of indie music
- Lana Del Rey - A&W: 10 something my coquette era
- Big Thief - Vampire Empire: 2 i do not care for this kind of indie music
- George Clanton - I Been Young: 8 my first time hearing this guy after seeing a lot of buzz and he's okay it's giving moby downtempo carcommercialcore i said (do not factcheck this)
- Black Country New Road - Turbines/Pigs: 1 i tried this before and liked the strings at first but the rest was really boring for me sorry
- Jessie Ware - Begin Again: 10 shes so real for this i work all night too (sometimes) (some nights ... i don't know ...)
- Mitski - My Love Mine All Mine: 5 pretty enough but not in the mood for mitski country rn
- 100 gecs - Hollywood Baby: 1 i hate this band i wish to not listen to them again.
- Carly Rae Jepsen - Psychedelic Switch: 7 it's overrated but it's okay I GUESS
- Squid - Swing (In a Dream): 7 kind of bangs weirdly kingcrimsoncoded (but like red era or something where they're more edgy)
- King Krule - Seaforth: 4 this is like if oasis tried to be dream pop (don't question that)
- The Smile - Bending Hectic: 2 this one part is pretty but overall this is really boring and bad and what radiohead sounds like to radiohead haters i fear. society has moved past the need for such local-indie-experimental~ band noodling
- Jeff Rosenstock - 3 Summers: 5 this says a lot about society. kinda based tbh
- Olivia Rodrigo - bad idea right?: 9 didn't care a lot for this album but i see the vision and the way she delivers the line "TRIPPED and FELL into his BED" is perfect lmao. deadpan wet leg vibes (i am simply saying things idk)
- Sampha - Spirit 2.0: 8 need to listen to this guy's music more he has a great voice and this sounds awesome
- END
