  3. >tfw was on the road all day and had to watch the episode 10 hours later than the cool kids
  4. Anyway. This episode had three of the worst shots in the the entirety of the show that ran at like 4 FPS. Awful.
  5.
  6. However besides that the episode was great. Had some legitimately good jokes for a change. Stella discussing her plans to kill Stolas on the phone, only for the camera to pan and show she's doing this in front of her retrded family who are too wrapped up in their own worlds to realize what's going on, was classic.
  7. I was also pleasantly surprised that Moxxie didn't win the contest with a deus ex machina and gained the dad's respect simply by standing up to him.
  8. Pic related is probably my favorite segment in the whole series.
  9. 2>5>3>1>4.
  10.
  11. Also reminder that budget is a meme and that parts of this episode looked terrible most likely because of poor time management.
  12. -
  13. Yeah I thought it was decent, but those low FPS shots were really noticeable! I wonder what happened there.
  14.
  15. Why is Striker so hot?
  16. -
  17. >Why is Striker so hot?
  18. Good voice/design/charisma
  19. -
  20. He also makes crocodile/gator sounds. Could just be a mix.
  21. -----------
  22. So
  23.
  24. >What I liked
  25. Kind of neat that our little fan theory that Moxxie is considered a softboi among his own kind for specializing in firearms held true, likewise our theorizing about him being a geek about guns and not just an enthusiast. The fact that angelic technology is evidently what drives demon firearms advances is interesting, so I guess anon's idea of those leftover exterminator weapons getting converted into bullets works after all, but that still doesn't explain why the exterminators themselves seem to favor fighting like its the middle ages. Do they just enjoy the tactile sensation of stabbing sht? The fact that Moxxie had to specifically mention that the rifle was capable of killing a demonic noble, to me, implies that the variations in power among demons also means there's variation in how difficult it is to permakill them; like Joe Blow The Average Sinner goes down from one stab to the goo with an angel spear but Stolas could probably shrug it off. It was neat to see more of the animal life of Hell. The implication that the wrath ring/imps are an overburdened, resentful underclass that's pretty much propping up the better-off parts of Hell, Babylonian empire-style, is cool. Wouldn't mind seeing them get their Robespierre on and start shaving nobles with the national razor. Some of the jokes got a genuine laugh out of me, like the gag of Moxxie falling victim to a shark attack even when he's nowhere near the water. I liked the fact that Millie seems to be back in character, jumping straight into savage violence the moment her hubby is in danger. The imps using their tails in a fight was a nice detail.
  26. -
  27. >What I didn't like
  28. Hooo boy you can tell they're doing this independently. Blame mismanagement, blame budget, blame whatever. There were a couple of shots that reminded me of trying to run Crysis on my toaster back in the day. I actually paused the video and started checking to see if something was wrong on my end. The actual action of the plot didn't do much for me. The whole thing with M&M and family what with the nebbish city slicker trying to prove to his worth to the callous-handed country folk and being threatened by a competitor who's just more archetypically macho than him in every way really felt like a straight up rip off of an episode in the third season of Futurama and probably other stuff that I can't recall off the top of my head. Not really breaking new ground. "I feel perfectly safe at the harvest festival" was too much of a Chekhov's gun line even back when it was uttered in the preview animatic. I knew for certain someone was going to try to kill Stolas and I was pretty much just looking at my watch waiting for it to happen. I guess it is kind of promising that it was Stella who ordered the hit, seems to promise that they're going to start doing some multi-episode long arcs instead of the one-and-done shit.
  29.
  30. Overall this one was a solid B for me. I liked the loredump more than the plot but nothing made me want to kill myslf.
  31. ---
  32. I do have to wonder just how downtrodden the imps are. I originally had the impression that they were third-class citizens of Hell, but they all seem to be competent enough, and even able to hunt down Overlords, have their own theme park etc?
  33. Seems more like they're just... poor?
  34. -
  35. Well they don't own that theme park, Mammon does. Striker specifies that "not many imps start businesses on their own", so I get the sense that both he and Blitzo really taking the reigns is something of an anomaly. Hunting down overlords isn't really a question of ability, a medieval serf could kill a king just as easily as a knight if he caught the guy with his pants down and somehow got his hands on a big-ass sword. Heck, that's happened, there are accounts of lowly footmen ganging up on minor nobles fighting on the frontlines to capture them because of how big ransoming off prisoners of war was back then. It's just that the majority of them never bothered.
  36. --
  37. Right, they don't own the park, but they're wealthy enough that they can afford to take their family out to 'expensive' theme parks.
  38. Where are they getting their money if they're not starting their own businesses? Are they all factory grunts and farmers?
  39. Also, it seemed kind of a big accomplishment to get that fancy rifle that Striker has. Moxxie seemed mighty impressed. I'd say it's a bit more than a big sword, or a knife.
  40. -
  41. problem is that they're an underclass but there's no reason for them to be
  42. -
  43. Imp has never been a byword for "powerful demon". In folklore, imps are mischevious little sprites who do annoying sht like putting salt in the sugar bowl and making your weaving wheel break. They're tiny little demonic grunts who get enslaved to witches as familiars. In video games they're common enemies that get crushed by the protagonist by the score. They were never going to be a mighty force to be reckoned with in Hell on this show.
  44. -
  45. >there's no reason for them to be
  46. Because they're the weakest of the weak demons with no potential for upward movement. Human souls like Al and Vox can at least be rewarded with powers if they're evil enough.
  47. -
  48. More Striker, please.
  49. --------------------
  50. Poor people go to amusement parks all the time, they just have to save up for it. Millie's family is a bunch of dirt farmers in not-the-southwest but they would still take her and her siblings to Loo Loo Land "when they could swing it money-wise"
  51. -
  52. modern day farmers aren't even poor, you think tons of crops just let them get by barely?
  53. -
  54. Yeah but these guys are living under an old-school monarchy run by people who can kill you with a mean look. I doubt the trade agreements are equitable.
  55. ---------------------
  56. >but that still doesn't explain why the exterminators themselves seem to favor fighting like its the middle ages. Do they just enjoy the tactile sensation of stabbing shit?
  57. They're genderbent neckbeards. Rule of cool is a must
  58. --------------------
  59. The animation was so limited in this episode. Felt like some scenes were 8fps
  60. --------------------
  61. That fancy rifle is "carmine crafted, blessing tipped rifle" that can kill "demon royalty".
  62.
  63. Since even imps can't be killed by fire and are highly resistant to mundane injury (Millie's arm snaps to where you see the bonepipes, and Striker is repeatedly stabbed in the back, yet both are fine). I think it's fair to say most things can NOT kill demon royalty, and it takes something truly out of the ordinary like this rifle sourced from Stella.
  64. Hell, if we take the song in Loo Loo land to be a literal representation, Stolas isn't even touched by a dying star.
  65.
  66. As for what this rifle actually IS, starting with the blessing tipped, that's easy, and probably the important bit. Moxxie foreshadows it in the beginning, when he geeks out about how the progression of utilizing angelic technology has changed the landscape of hell's combative...
  67. Carmine is a crimson pigment derived from shells of certain insects, among others.
  68. ---
  69. >Carmine is a crimson pigment derived from shells of certain insects, among others.
  70.
  71. He obviously meant that it was crafted by those guys with no faces from Gears of War you nonce.
  72. ---
  73. The big question worth asking is are the rifles manufactured in Hell or Heaven? I noticed that the revolver that Striker was holding had a holy cross imprinted on it, why would a hell manufactured weapon have a holy cross imprinted on it?
  74.
  75. The way the weapons are presented seems to imply that either the weapons themselves are what is lethal to royalty/sinners, or that 'blessed tipped' ammunition can only be used with these modified firearms. Either way, the implication is that you cannot just create a "holy" bullet and slot it into any random firearm, but that it needs firearm that is modified to fire them specially.
  76.
  77. The way Moxxie acts when he finds the rifle seems akin to a Human finding a tactical nuclear warhead in someone's briefcase, its definently inferred that getting access to one of these guns is incredibly difficult. With the way he acts, I would bet that weapons that can kill Demon royalty/sinners is not something that is easy to come across, which begs the question of what happens to abandoned angelic spears.
  78. -
  79. Moxxie speaks of angelic technology influencing the combat landscape in Hell, so I'm assuming that means that the god-guns are being made by demons down in Hell, but from relatively scarce resources that require a good deal of specialized knowledge to craft properly. Think those guys who hand-make matched rounds for individual guns, except all their materials could also emit a lethal burst of radiation if they fk up.
  80. ------
  81. Man I love moxxie but he really is shit at fighting.
  82. ------
  83. I think it's funny that blitz and mox had so many chances to kill striker at the end battle and didn't do it but in episode 2 they didn't bat an eye to kill those muggers imps
  84. -
  85. His Plot Armor™ was too thick. The writers need him to come back in the season finale for a second showdown with Moxxie that will probably end with Moxxie defeating him by pulling off a Heroic One-In-A-Million Shot™ that will leave Millie's panties utterly soaked and probably prompt a reference to all of the freaky, passionate sex they're going to have as soon as they get home.
  86. ----------------------------
  87. Also, I think Hellhounds are the real third-class citizens in Hell. In this episode we once again have the other characters talking about them more as if they're things and not people. Which makes Blitzo formally adopting Loona and being such a worrywart over her seem like a very unusual occurrence.
  88. -
  89. >Also, I think Hellhounds are the real third-class citizens in Hell. In this episode we once again have the other characters talking about them more as if they're things and not people.
  90.
  91. They are a weird mix between actual people and pet dogs. In fact a lot of cartoons have this issue, animals who treated as people or animals depending on the needs of the story.
  92. Might be cool if they make up a meta reason for it.
  93. -
  94. I think that weird mix between people and pets is exactly why they're in the position they are.
  95. Technically a higher tier of demon than imps. Stronger, faster, better instincts, has a disguise, etc., etc., but with an animal nature that makes them better suited for things like guard dogs than business runners in the modern day.
  96. -
  97. Trying to ascribe some kind of pseudoscience logic to this that the mystical-types like to do, I'd guess that things of a demonic nature are violently antithetical to things of an angelic nature. Like, positron-meets-electron destructive, or at the very least crossing an arcane beam and a life beam in Magicka. So in order to get holy bullets to work in a gun made by demons, you have to be a bit clever with how you build the weapon. Alternatively, maybe this shit works on video game logic where you can tell how a gun behaves just from looking at some really obvious design features.
  98. ----
  99. The low framerate parts are jarring but still good shit
  100. -----
  101. They did another antagonist-introduction episode. How many episodes do they have planned for season 1?
  102. -
  103. 8 episodes for the first season, they've apparently already started recording for season 2 and Fizz's voice actor's confirmed that he's still in it.
  104. -
  105. A lot of shows don't really hit their stride until the second or third season (*cough* TNG *cough-cough*). I think (hope) that this first season is basically just an orientation. They're giving us a roster of villains to show up and do shit, they're establishing character dynamics, and they're giving us some explanation on how the world works. After that maybe we'll get some more complex stories.
  106. -------
  107. >it's another "one-off character appearance" episode
  108. -
  109. >One off character
  110. >Set up to be a reoccurring villian
  111. >A fan favorite villian at that
  112. God I wish I could be as stupid as some you rtards
  113. -
  114. Like Fizz, the cherubs, and Verosika?
  115. -
  116. Calling it now: episode 8 (or a big one in the next season) is going to have a Regular Show type “jump the shark” moment where all the antagonists team up to go after the imps. Too many of them are getting convenient “I’ll be back” scenes with no official closure.
  117. -
  118. Fizz and Verosika for sure come back.
  119. Also that giant thing Fizz is riding on might be a bird of some sort based on the feathers.
  120. -------
  121. >>38343561
  122. Yeah, I'm hoping the first season is just set-up, introducing the villains and the core cast and the core concepts, and then the second season has more meat to it.
  123.
  124. >>38343816
  125. The giant thing Fizz is riding is probably Asmodeus.
  126. -
  127. >The giant thing Fizz is riding is probably Asmodeus.
  128. That makes sense to me. He is a demon associated with lust and gambling and the setting they're in sort of looks like your typical Vegas casino theater, with the addition of plenty of go-go cages.
  129. -
  130. Oh yeah, that probaly explains why the place is named Ozzie's
  131. -
  132. I mean those symbols on the thing's face do match up with the depiction of Asmodeus in anon's pic. Also, "robo ripoffs" of celebrity figures in Hell are confirmed to be a thing that anyone can buy. Maybe "Ozzie's Factory" is shipping out Asmo-bots in addition to Robo-Fizzes
  133. -
  134. Maybe it's a Robo-Val?
  135. -
  136. Why would it be Robo-Val? Am I missing something?
  137. -
  138. Because a robot has virtual artificial intelligence
  139. Val
  140. Duh you stupid ass rtard
  141. ------
  142. not to call the show predictable but i have a feeling that's exactly how it will go
  143. ------
  144. I was operating under the assumption that the robotic knockoffs of real demons actually look somewhat like whoever they're a copy of. I figured that Robo-Fizz looks somewhat like the real Fizzarolli (whoever the fk that is). That thing in the picture looks nothing like Valentino, but it does have what looks to be, from left to right, a horse head silhouette, a grimacing humanoid face, and a ram's head silhouette.
  145. -
  146. Oh wait I just got the joke. Fk you Anon. My dad called, he wants his dorky sense of humor back.
  147. ----------
  148. >tfw fking Striker has better chemistry with Blitz than Stolas
  149. Not that Blitz particularly deserves it, but I hope the show gives him a romantic interest who actually values him as something other than a hole.
  150. -
  151. Striker is a sociopath even by Hell's standards. If you think that a manipulative (wo)manizer offers "good chemistry" then I suggest getting rid of your virginity first before analyzing relationships.
  152. Not that Blitzo's and Stolas' relationship is particularly healthy, but they have at least some dynamic that could grow into something stable.
  153. -
  154. Sociopaths often have good chemistry and charisma in general, yes, at least on the surface. That's part of what allows them to be sociopaths.
