  3. Samidare: (noun) early-summer rain.
  4.
  5. "Now arriving at Asugasaki, Asugasaki. Please stay clear of while the doors are..."
  6. You slip through the train's doors and into the empty station.
  7. Dull gray clouds up above. Typical of a mid-May Sunday afternoon.
  8. Lots of moisture in the air; you could easily smell the grass, gravel, and wood.
  9. Seems scheduled rainfall for this week was coming earlier than expected.
  10. You guess the local ryu couldn't wait until sundown to pounce on her husband today...
  11.
  12. You scan your metro card at the station's exit and pass through the gates, into the streets.
  13. Asugasaki, a hidden suburb 30 minutes by train from Tokyo's center, and your new home.
  14. You pass by the local arachne-owned clothing outlet, and the cafe where you're pretty sure the new shoggoth waitress is making eyes at you.
  15. You've made this trip from the train station to your apartment nearly every day for the past month, and it already feels so familiar you could do it with your eyes closed.
  16.
  17. You feel a few drips of water on your neck. Damn, the rain's started up already.
  18. Better run the rest of the way home.
  19.
  20. --
  21.
  22. You arrive at your humble apartment absolutely soaked.
  23. Your shirt's clinging to your body and half see-through; you were practically walking fanservice for any lucky mamono lucky enough to catch sight of you.
  24. Removing your wet clothes, you strip down to your boxers and toss yourself onto your sofa, exhausted after a long day.
  25. It must have been half an hour or so when your phone begins to buzz.
  26. Someone's calling.
  27.
  28. "Hello? Anon here."
  29. "Ah, A-a-a-anon!" You hear the weresheep on the other side bleat your name. "It's me, Mary."
  30. "Mary? What's up?" You toss your wet clothes into a laundry hamper and readjust your grip on the phone.
  31. "Not much. Just a la-a-a-azy Sunday afternoon. What about you?"
  32. "Just got back from the city. I'm thinking about taking it easy for the rest of the day..."
  33. "I'm sort of in the a-a-a-area, so... if you're free, you mind if I stop on by for a visit?"
  34. "Hm? Yeah, sure. Just give me a couple minutes and I can meet you-"
  35. "Pch!" You hear Mary sneeze over the phone.
  36. ...
  37. And that same sneeze from outside your door.
  38. You rush over to your foyer (if you could even call it that) and open the door.
  39. And there stands Mary, drenched in summer rain.
  40. Water drops from her curved horns, and her damp fur exudes the heavy fragrance of summer.
  41. And maybe a tinge of a female's musk...
  42. You snap yourself out on your fantasizing and refocus on the soggy weresheep in front of you.
  43. "You're sopping wet! Come on inside, let's get you dry."
  44. You reach for Mary, who mysteriously recoils a bit before accepting your urging her inside.
  45. "Hold on just a sec. Let me get you a towel."
  46. "Hey, Anon." Mary calls to you from your living room.
  47. "Yeah?" You return with the fluffiest towel you can find and hand it to your friend.
  48. "Do you welcome every woman who comes to your place in that getup?"
  49. "Getup?"
  50. Mary points to you as you realize that you're still wearing nothing but underwear.
  51.
  52. --
  53.
  54. After some profuse apologizing you and Mary change into some dry clothes: you into your normal around-the-house wear, and Mary borrowing one of your plain t-shirts.
  55. "Is green tea okay?"
  56. Mary nods. "Thanks."
  57. "You're teaching English to middle-schoolers right? How's that going?" You offer the weresheep a cup of warm tea before taking one yourself.
  58. "Ve-e-e-ery we-e-ell," Mary bleats with pleasure. "Most of the kids have never had a mamono teacher before, but after the initial shock wears off, they're all great students."
  59. "I'm guessing the 'Mary had a little lamb' jokes have stopped this far into the semester?"
  60. Mary chuckles. "Most of them. But now my new nickname is 'Sleepy Sheepy.'"
  61. "Cute." You give the weresheep a smile.
  62. You hear a teacup clatter as Mary jumps a little.
  63. "A-ah, yeah." Mary clears her throat. She runs a finger through her hair as she shifts subject. "What about you? Getting used to everything here?"
  64. "Yep. I've figured out how most stuff here works, so I should be ready for work when it starts in a couple weeks."
  65. "Heheh. Look at you." Mary crosses her arms in pride. "On the path to becoming a respectable businessman."
  66. You return a more nervous laugh. "Hah. We'll see."
  67. "You'll be fine, I just know it." Mary sidles closer to you. "It's Anon we're talking about. Worry as much as you want, but you'll deliver when it counts. I promise."
  68. You nod, half-conscious of the sweet, sticky drowsiness that surrounds you as Mary gives you a little squeeze. "Thanks, Mary."
  69. The weresheep cuts her hug off abruptly. "You'll do so well over there. I'm sure you'll pique the interest of some cute girl at the office and..."
  70. The comfortable and lethargic aura dissipates and you're brought back to reality. "Wait, what?"
  71. Mary looks down her lap as she wrings her hands. "I mean, it's natural that it'd happen, right? Once you start working, we'll see each other less often, and if it's someone like you, Anon, you're sure to attract attention from plenty of other mamono-"
  72. "But I have you." You blurt out.
  73. "Huh?"
  74. "Huh."
  75. Oh, shit. You didn't mean to say it in such a, well, direct way.
  76. Let the awkward silence commence.
  77. ...
  78. ...
  79. ...
  80. Mary bursts out laughing. "Aw, come on, Anon. Enough with the jokes. It's sweet that you want to cheer me up, but you really don't have to-"
  81. "I'm not really joking, though." You say.
  82. "W-wha..."
  83. You take a deep breath. There's no stopping this train now.
  84. "Mary."
  85. "Y-yesh!" The weresheep jolts in her seat.
  86. "I..."
  87. "You...?"
  88. You're blanking out. Where do you possibly start...?
  89. "I, uh... You smell good."
  90. "Excuse me?"
  91. So much pasta happening right now.
  92. "And you're really nice. Like friendly, but also... you care a lot about people. Your students, the random stranges you run into, and of course me..."
  93. Mary looks confused, but a slight blush begins to tinge her cheeks.
  94. "And, well, uh..."
  95. You take another breath. Time to go all in.
  96. "You're really cute, like /really/ cute. It's a personal dream of mine to snuggle up with you because you're so soft, and those thighs, oh /man/ those thighs..."
  97. Mary reddens.
  98. "And you're kind of awkward but I think it's okay because you're always doing your best and you're also really capable and smart so you should give yourself more credit..."
  99. The weresheep turns her face to the side in a futile attempt to hide her embarrassed smile.
  100. "And... you've always been there for me, whether it was me feeling nervous about my new job or just being confused about how stuff like the trains or mail worked... So... I..."
  101. Once again, the room becomes quiet.
  102. Silence except for the sound of rain pattering outside.
  103. Mary stands from her seat.
  104. "Can I use your shower? My fur is still a little bit da-a-a-amp."
  105. Damn, shot down by a change of subject, huh?
  106. "Y-yeah, of course." You reply in a daze.
  107. Mary hesitates a little.
  108. "A-anon." She turns to you with a flushed face and (if your ears didn't deceive you) some heavy breathing. "C-care to join me?"
  109. Try as you might, you can't wipe this goofy looking grin off your face.
  110. "Yeah."
