Dark Nova Colonial Slang (WIP as I add more)

Atmo- Refers to both atmosphere, be it planetary or the air aboard a ship or orbital, and the region of a planetary zone of the atmosphere. Usage is of unknown origins, but like Blackside and Dirtside may have originated from 21st century spacers. Use: "Hull's breached, we're bleeding atmo." or "Lifting off now, we'll break atmo and be blackside in thirty seconds."

Auged- A term refering to one's state of extensive cybernetic or bioengineered augmentation. Use: "She's auged to the nines- enhanced reflexes, myomer recoding, spatial awareness mods, and some serious sensory upgrades in her multiopics."

Baka- Semi-derogatory term for outsiders with no street-smarts. Use: "Baka want data? Nakar gechu data, Baka, all you got coin for."

Blackside- Common parlance for anything space-based or outside of a planetary atmosphere. Originated from early spacer slang in the 21st century.

Brata- "Brother", slang form of coloquial address not unlike "bro", Russian origin. Use: "You want me to do this, brata, you pay for it."

Capo- Honourific for a dangerous individual, meant to imply fear, respect, and an understanding that the individual so addressed is in charge. Also a term used for the local gang leader, criminal boss, biggest thug, etc. Considered derogatory to the point of lethal response if used to refer to a Syndicate boss, despite the origins of the word describing Mafia bosses.

Chasis- Body, specifically the torso. Use: "Hands off my chasis, brata, or you be missin' dat hand notimelike"

Coin- General term for wealth or payment. Used almost exclusively in the Colonial Territories and Fringe Space due to the prevalance of hard currency in those regions, wherease in the Core Worlds almost all currency transactions take place electronically.

Dat, Dis, Dem, etc.- Degenerative forms of English words begining with "th" such as "That", "This", "Them" and so on. Dates back to the late 20th century and pre-Fall period of the early 21st century.

Data- Pretty much any sort of loot or desired object, physical or digital.

Dirtside- Common parlance for anything planetary or ground-based. Originated from early spacer slang in the 21st century.

Dumpa-goda- Degenerative form of "dump the goods", used in the Fringe as part of the evolving Fringer patois to refer to ejecting a cargo or dropping something being carried, usually to escape pursuit or to avoid arrest for carrying contraband. Use: "Ispies gon be hot on us, brata, no prof in jailtime. Dumpa-goda and pah-jumpeh out of here."

Flipabitch- Term of unknown origins used by pilots- especially Free Systems Alliance fighter jockeys and Freetraders with light, fast, maneuverable ships- to refer to a 180 degree change of trajectory while flying. Considered a dangerous move due to the massive G-forces involved- hundreds or even thousands of Gs at the speeds most of these craft move, which can potentially overload inertial dampeners- and the chance of collision with a pursuer.

Gechu- To acquire, e.g. "I gechu data, baka". Degenerative form of "get you".

Gon- Degeneration of "going" found in Fringer patois dialects.

Hot- Refers to dogged or aggressive pursuit. Use: "I'm hot on him, he's not escaping."

Ispies/Ispy- A slang reference to ISP, Inter-System Police, the interstellar multinational law enforcement descended from Interpol that patrols Alliance nations' spaceways and some areas of Freespace.

Kapitan- An honourific given to an outsider with streetsmarts. Almost exclusively used aboard Freeport orbitals in general use, but very widespread in use when dealing with ship's captains or representatives. Blurred degeneration of the Hindi and German words for "Captain" (kaptaan/kapitän respectively).

Kupang- Wealth, lit: "mussels"; originated from Kuala-Japhetese migrant workers (Malaysian specifically).

Lawndart- Term of unknown origins that can be used as a verb or a noun, and refers either to the act of a vehicle or ship crashing into the ground, or to said vehicle after having done so. Suspected to be of pre-Fall origins on Terra, but due the loss of records during the Fall no exact origin can be pinpointed.

Mana- Maori word for prestige, used in place of "rep" in places with extensive Australio-Pacifica influence.

Mi Pengyou- My Friend, from Spanish and Mandarin mix which originated in the Kalindra Corridor region of Freespace where several joint North American Union and Han-Zhou Empire colonies were established in the mid-22nd century, and spread from there.

Muy- Much or great amount. Spanish origin.

Nakar- Used to refer to one's self if you are offering a service. Degenerative form of Naukar, the Hindi word for servant.

No gehoon dopa vedre- You're full of it, lit: "No wheat in your bucket".

Notimelike- In quick order, rapidly. A degeneration of the English "in no time".

Pah-jumpeh- Degeneration of the English term "Fast-jump", though the exact origin of the degeneration is unknown. It is used to refer to a surprise jump, either a rapid combat jump or sudden arrival of a ship using a stealth jump drive without the usual visual wormhole event horizon.

Porter- A resident of a Freeport, used almost exclusively for those who live aboard Freeport orbitals rather than planetary residents. Degenerative shortening of "Freeporter".

Prof- Shortened form of the English word "profit", refers to payment from a job or the illicit acquisition of payment. Tied closely to illicit dealings, but has begun making inroads into general use as it is considered "edgy" slang due to the association with nefarious dealings.

Randee: Low-end prostitute. Hindi origin, and generally refers to the sorts of dock and portside prostitutes who you wouldn't want to touch even in a day of Omnicillin and nanite medicine.

Rasskazhi me: Tell me, talk to me. Russian origin. Use: "Rasskazhi me dis, brata- who goin' come for you, eh?"

Rep- Short for the English "Reputation", and is a term that describes a person's notoriety, trustworthiness, and, well, reputation.

Seeka- To look for or ask for something. Degenerative form of "seek".

Sopang- To talk a great deal, to "sing like a bird" to use older slang. Also, similar to the Freeman "I tell you what". Comes from the Indonesian word for Soprano and the propensity for Sopranos to have more vocal lines in Kuala-Japhetese operas.

Suba- "To ascend/rise"; a genial farewell. Originated among Portuguese workers on European orbitals that were relegated to the industrial districts of the lower decks as a farewell wish that the subject rise up to the more luxurious upper decks. Commonly used aboard Freeports.

Tengu- An amusingly problematic person, very often used to describe greasemonkeys due to their unorthodox methods of repair and the chaos of engineering sections they work in. Derives from a term for a form of yokai (spirit/demon) in Buddhism that was seen as disruptive and often a harbinger of chaos and war.

Tapu/Taboo- Maori/Tongan word for a forbidden or sacred thing not to be touched. Used in common parlance to refer to something that is hands-off or a forbidden subject. While "taboo" has been in common use for centuries, since well before the Fall, "tapu" has become more commonplace in regions of space with extensive Maori influence through the APC.

Über- From the German word for "super", considered to be a shortened form of "übermensch", or "superman". Originally started within the EU as a semi-derogatory term for the Ahruga due to their superhuman physical capabilities and size, but has now made it into general use to refer to anyone with extensive cybernetic or bioengineering augmentations that enhance their physical capabilities substantially. Still likely to get one tent-pegged by an Ahruga if used in their presence, however.

Ubisto- Wetwork, murder, assassination. Degenerative form of "Ubiystvo", the Russian term for murder.

Whanau- Maori word for the extended family, used in Australio-Pacifica influenced regions of space to refer to family, clan, or a tightknit group of friends. Also used by Aussie Freetraders to refer to their crew, as Freetrader crews often have close, almost familial bonds.
