- It's 1971, a team of explorers with a company of soldiers are following myth and legend in the Pacific amidst rumors of an island where creatures both prehistoric and monstrous are supposed to live. Soon they come across Skull Island, the very island of lore and legend. The creatures they soon come across make the soldiers and explorers running for their very lives. Soon Kong shows up to let all know that he is the King of Skull Island and top of the food chain. Will they survive to tell their story? Will beauty win the heart of the beast?
- Defying discovery, the notorious Skull Island, a small uncharted haven in the South Pacific encircled by a perpetual storm system, harbours a uniquely complex and self-contained ecosystem. With the intention of making ground-breaking discoveries but utterly clueless of what they would find there, an exploration and research team led by scientist Bill Randa will boldly go where no man has ever gone before, completely cut-off from civilisation. But, soon, as strange and reason-defying encounters with magnificent, yet unclassified species start to baffle the esteemed scientists, one thing will become quite clear: apparently, we humans, never owned this blue planet.
- I am a lifelong Kong fan and was a little apprehensive about this movie, but I must say that I truly loved it. I really did. I went to the movie with my 10 year old grandson and seeing how much he was enjoying the film might have swayed my judgment a little, but I couldn't help but think about how I felt the first time that I saw King Kong. Any film that is able to evoke that feeling, is a winner in my book. But all nostalgia aside, I thought the movie did a great job of showcasing the Skull Island and the monsters that dwell there. Kong was presented as a real King, and the FX were great. Over all it was just was a fun monster movie, and who doesn't like those?
- Another cookie-cutter blockbuster that feels like it was written by a team of 12 year olds on a deadline. To its credit, the movie has great special effects and several scenes with Kong and other creatures are fun to watch. Yet the other redeeming qualities of good blockbusters are missing in action such that this is essentially a forty-five minute effects reel with an hour of inane "story" cut in. The humans in the film are forgettable, cookie-cutter versions of the same characters you've seen a million times. Oh look there's Sam Jackson. Oh look Alison Brie's emotive eyes. Oh look John C. Reilly, what a funny character. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if this qualifies as a good movie I must be losing my mind.<br/><br/>I didn't pay to watch this and I wouldn't. It's a decent watch if you want to get some online shopping done in between explosions and monster fights but otherwise steer clear.

This film is set in the same universe as Legendary Pictures' <a href="/title/tt0831387/">Godzilla (2014)</a> (2014) and in the year 1973. This film is meant to introduce Kong in anticipation of an onscreen crossover featuring him and Godzilla in 2020. No. While Kong is massive, he is still smaller than Godzilla. However, in this film, it's mentioned that Kong has been around for a long time and will continue to grow. So, assuming the crossover film takes place in the modern day, that would give Kong nearly 50 more years of growth. a5c7b9f00b
