There was a heavy weight on Sheik’s back, at first she thought they had been ambushed. But the aggressive chittering told her that it was Squirtle. Not that she needed to be thrown off balance now, she had half a mind to push the monster off of her as it perched on her shoulder.

Squirtle opened its mouth and a torrent of water flowed out like a burst pipe. The spray was wide, and it certainly went far into the tunnel, but did little to push them back or damage them at all.

So now the cavern was wet. Leaf’s little pet was beginning to really annoy Sheik. And in a moment she needed all her attention aimed.

Lucas’s eyes lit up, however. With clenched fists and narrowed eyes, he took a step forward, in front of the group.

Placing two fingers to his temple and then pulling them away revealed a fractal of icy blue shapes. Lucas bit his lip as he struggled to hold onto it. Frost formed at the tips of his fingers.

Then he let it go, and the energy exploded through the cavern. The entire tunnel was lit up for a fraction of a second.

The whole line of doppelgangers now stood still, frozen to the floor and the walls around them by a thick layer of ice.

Lucas let out a deep breath, one visible in the damp air. He shivered and hugged his shoulders.

Sheik hesitated for one more second, then stood from her stance.

“We need to move. There’s no telling when more will show.”
