  1. This is a balanced offensive team that revolves around a strong defensive core of Shuckle + Lombre. I chose Shuckle with Rest and Sleep Talk because that gives it serious staying power, and I chose to drop offensive attacks altogether at the risk of being walled by Ivysaur, because Encore and Toxic are all Shuckle really needs. While Shuckle deals with 50% of the metagame, Lombre can take on some of the special attackers Shuckle cannot. Ivysaur is the usual choice because of its Toxic immunity, but I chose Lombre because I wanted some extra insurance against powerful Fire-types like Quilava and Combusken, as well as Marshtomp who is very popular now. Banded Marshtomp is my main wallbreaker, and also serves as a secondary check to pokemon like Beedrill, Anorith, and even Dragonair. Quilava is chosen as a consistent special attacker with a nice combination of speed and power, and is able to pick off Yanma with Quick Attack while pressuring Ivysaur. I still needed a Toxic absorber, which is near mandatory in Gen 3, so I chose Beedrill. Beedrill also functions as a setup sweeper, being able to break down common cores and also pressures Ivysaur, giving Shuckle some breathing room. Finally, Minun is my last pokemon. It is the best revenge killer in the tier and because I had enough pokemon with Quick Attack and Toxic, I was able to free slots for Sub and Pass. Subpass to Band Marshtomp, or Quilava (off an Ivysaur switch!) an be seriously threatening to the opposing team. The weaknesses of the team: Spikes as usual because Spikes are ridiculous in any ADV tier. Lead Minun can help vs lead spikers and get a quick Subpass on for pressure on Omanyte. Ivysaur is super annoying because of its free switch-in on Shuckle. There is counterplay though and you can take a chunk of it with Band Marsh, but Leech Seed is dumb. Dragonair’s only counterplay on this team are Encoring with Shuckle and switching out, and Marshtomp lives one hit. Luckily, Roar on Quilava limits setup opportunities.
