  58. Private Investigator Dylan Dog (Routh) needs to keep the peace in New Orleans among the living dead: Vampires, Zombies and Werewolves. Long ago he was the accepted mediator among them, but now things have changed. Someone has stolen an artifact that can produce what looks like the Devil but is probably an overgrown, massive Werewolf (St. John) who will have the power to wipe out Werewolves, Vampires and Zombies. The Werewolves want it back to keep the status quo. I need to see how this is done in case I run into something similar. Very intriguing. <br/><br/>Let&#39;s see……… the last time……… we saw Brandon Routh, …….he was the new Superman, buuuuuuuuuut, ………….there was a problem. He couldn&#39;t smile like Christopher Reeve did and was Superman no more. Well, that is my version of how it happened and there is probably another version (and most likely the truth, Bob), but who knows?<br/><br/>Anyway here we are again. This is based upon a comic of which I am not familiar. This is not a horror story, you don&#39;t see any gore, but you do see some sights that no one should ever see (there are people in need of body parts and they are shown to us (Ugh, cover the eyes of the children). The actual stunts and CGI are very impressive as most CGI are. Good job. <br/><br/>There is a lot of comedy in here so don&#39;t take things too seriously although it is played that way. Yes, most scenes are in the dark. Can&#39;t have Vampires biting everyone in sunlight, you know. Tough Room. <br/><br/>Brandon Routh seems to have gone to the Tom Cruz school of acting. In many scenes he even looks like him and throughout talks like him. And, if truth be told he actually smiles a lot in here. If only………….<br/><br/>I would expect to see Mr. Routh in many roles that Keanu Reeves might pass on OR even take away from. But, the Tom Cruz speech pattern has to go. BTW, has anyone seen Keanu lately?<br/><br/>The rest of the cast are adequate and no surprises here with Vampires, Werewolves or Zombies. In case you are wondering Dylan Dog is a Breather, a human. He carries silver for brass knuckles and wooden bullets and can handle himself among the living dead. His best friend, Marcus (Huntington), dies and becomes a Zombie and his comedic relief behaviors aren&#39;t all that funny. Some are, most not. <br/><br/>The story is narrated by Dylan and at one time he says that Werewolves don&#39;t like being accused of murder even when they did it. Well………. maybe you had to be there. <br/><br/>Allowances have to be made for the dialogue as it works in a comic book, but in a movie, not so much. So keep that in mind. But overall it&#39;s not that bad. <br/><br/>All in all not scary, sometimes funny, and the pace keeps one off the stop button and Routh actually smiles in here. If only………………<br/><br/>Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: No.
  59. I didn&#39;t expect much from this movie because of the lower user ratings. I had not read the comic book associated with the film so I was not disappointed by the fact that it didn&#39;t follow the comic. I am a big fan of older B movies from the 80&#39;s. This movie probably would have been a better movie back then. Although, it would have done better at the box office or becoming a cult classic if they would have added some nudity.<br/><br/>The acting was not bad. The movie had some humor and the non-CGI FX make-up was well done. I liked the Phillip Marlow-like narration by detective Dylan throughout the film.<br/><br/>The trouble with this movie, aside from angering the die-hard comic fans is that it is now 2011. They tried to make a serious film that should have just went over the top. This could have been what Kill Bill or Machete was to the 1970&#39;s genre, like a Piranha 3D but they didn&#39;t push this film enough. This film is Big Trouble in Little China without the flare.
