i mean honestly? dabi was a weak lil kid, probably pretty reserved. of course he'd like to read. he probably read a lot, and is likely disappointed he can't read as much nowadays
books are heavy, take up space,  and aren't important enough to justify stealing, and also he never got to highschool, so reading is just generally hard

unrelated but i feel like dabi's the sort of person that acts like a stray cat. he likes being in the same room as someone, but doesn't often approach them, aside from to gauge how dangerous they are to him. until he's sure he's safe, he's gonna be somewhat skittish and cautious. but he warms up quickly

and dabi kinda.. goes quiet, and thinks about it for a bit. because to him, home wasn't a positive thing. to him, home was full of fighting, full of anger, full of fear... he never had a good model for a relationship, and that's probably one of the reasons why he avoids them like the plague. if you only fuck around with someone and don't actually give them access to your heart, they can't hurt you. it's safer. it didn't even occur to dabi that a relationship can actually be built up into something nice like what naomasa's describing. when he speaks, his voice is quieter, almost like it was that part of him that never fully grew up that's speaking.
