Smash Bro
Characters:
	JACKIE is a college age girl.
	OMAR is a college age boy.
	Both are 18 or over.

Setting: Omar’s living room

JACKIE and OMAR are on a date. They are arriving at OMAR’s house.

Enter JACKIE
Enter OMAR

JACKIE: ...And so I just figured we could go back to your place since I’ve already been to your house a lot already, and cause my TV’s busted right now. That wouldn’t be a very good first impression of mine.
OMAR: Oh, no it’s fine! I like my house anyway.
JACKIE: (laughs) Well, I hope you do, you live here!
OMAR: Yeah…
	(OMAR and JACKIE walk to the center of the stage)
OMAR: So, what do you want to do Jackie?
JACKIE: I don’t know… I thought maybe you had something you wanted to do.
OMAR: Smash?
	(Pause)
JACKIE: ...I’m sorry?
	(Omar gestures to a couch and smiles)
JACKIE: (laughs) I think you got the wrong idea about me Omar, but I’d still be up for it.
OMAR: You don’t like Smash Bros?
JACKIE: Oh, no- Yes. Nevermind. Let’s do that. Smash.
OMAR: Are you sure you want to?
JACKIE: (quickly) Yeah it sounds great.
	(JACKIE and OMAR both sit down on the couch and pick up controllers)
OMAR: So, who do you main?
JACKIE: Luigi.
OMAR: Why?
JACKIE: I was always player 2 as a kid, and I just like his aesthetic. (pause, both using the controllers) What about you?
OMAR: Zero Suit Samus.
JACKIE: Oh.
OMAR: ...Oh?
	(JACKIE looks over at OMAR with a knowing smile)
JACKIE: (jokingly) So you’re one of those guys.
OMAR: What guys?
JACKIE: A “smash” bro. (pause) A “nice guy” who’s just looking to bang.
OMAR: What are you talking about?
JACKIE: (laughs) Well, you’re playing as Zero Suit Samus for a reason, right?
OMAR: (laughs and swats his hand in mock annoyance) Oh stop it.
JACKIE: It’s probably true!
OMAR: It might be, but wait until you see me play her. Gameplay-wise I mean.
JACKIE: God, you are too much, Omar.
OMAR: I like to think I’m just the right amount of Omar.
JACKIE: (laughs)
	(pause)
OMAR: (looking over at JACKIE) So, ready?
JACKIE: Yeah, let’s go.
	(JACKIE and OMAR both begin rapidly spamming their controllers for a while)
JACKIE: No no no no- (pause, button mashing continues) Hah! Ok, I’m alright- FUCK! God damnit.
	(JACKIE briefly stops, then continues using the controller)
OMAR: Like I said, it’s not about the view. I’m good with Samus.
JACKIE: The Zero Suit keeps your eyes trained huh?
OMAR: Watch this.
	(Intense button mashing)
JACKIE: Ok, that just wasn’t even fair.
OMAR: It wasn’t?
JACKIE: I mean, I guess it was. Good job. I hate you.
	(Button mashing)
JACKIE: Okay, I don’t actually hate you but I do right now, what was that?
	(Button masking pauses. OMAR looks over at JACKIE)
OMAR: Are you actually mad at me or...?
JACKIE: (sighs) Well, no. I’m just not very good.
OMAR: We can do something else…
JACKIE: No, let’s just do this. You can unpause.
	(OMAR resumes button mashing. JACKIE is just pushing a few buttons less quickly now)
OMAR: Annnd… (OMAR leans forward in his seat) GOT-
	(The lights all flick out and the TV shuts off instantly)
OMAR: ...you.
	(Long pause. JACKIE and OMAR look around uncertainly in the dark)
OMAR: Was that you?
JACKIE: No…
OMAR: It wasn’t me.
JACKIE: I wouldn’t think it was you.
OMAR: Oh.
JACKIE: ...Oh?
OMAR: So you really were getting annoyed then.
JACKIE: Yeah. (pause) A bit.
OMAR: I’m sorry.
JACKIE: No it’s alright. I just get like that sometimes.
OMAR: Well, we can’t play Smash anymore anyway, looks like. (pause) So… I guess that works out.
JACKIE: In a way I suppose.
OMAR: What do you think we should do now?
JACKIE: Actually I kind of like just hanging out in the dark, talking about stuff. It’s nice- being close to you with no distractions.
OMAR: Yeah. It is kind of nice. Let’s just talk.
	(Long silent pause)
JACKIE: So what do you think we should do?
OMAR: I don’t know. I thought maybe you had something you wanted to say.
JACKIE: No. (pause) Smash?
OMAR: What about it?
JACKIE: Do you want to?
OMAR: (OMAR gestures to the TV) Power’s still out.
JACKIE: Yeah I know.
OMAR: So…?
JACKIE: Nevermind.
	(Long silent pause)
OMAR: Pretty dark in here.
JACKIE: Yeah. Not too bright.
OMAR: Definitely.
	(Silent pause)
JACKIE: Well, I guess I’ll get going.
	(JACKIE gets up and begins walking blindly towards the door with her arms in front of her)
OMAR: Oh, ok. (sigh) Sucks that you couldn’t stay longer.
JACKIE: It does suck…
OMAR: I’ll see you on a better day, then?
JACKIE: Yeah, I’ll see you then.
	(JACKIE opens the door and leaves)

Exit JACKIE

OMAR: (to himself) Damn. I really thought we could hang out into the night just doing nothing together, maybe even- (pause, OMAR is hit with a realization) SMASH!
	(OMAR gets up and runs to the door)
OMAR: Jackie! Wait!
