This sequel picks up 18 years later from the original and finds Elwood Blues being released from prison and trying to re-form his old band with new lead singer Mighty Mac replacing Jake. A road trip culminates with a battle of the bands against the Louisiana Gators led by B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Dr. John, and others.
Eighteen years after completing their "mission from God", Elwood J. Blues is released from prison only to learn of the deaths of his brother and partner in crime, 'Joliet' Jake Blues, and his father figure and mentor, Curtis, as well as the destruction of the orphanage he was raised in. With no family, no roots, and no life, a discouraged Elwood goes to meet with Sister (now Mother) Mary Stigmata. At this meeting, in addition to getting stuck mentoring a wise-ass orphan named Buster, Elwood learns of the existence of Curtis' illegitimate son, Cable. Now determined to seek out the only family he has left and to reassemble The Band, Elwood, with the help of his new associate and lead singer, 'Mighty' Mack McTeer, embarks on a death-defying journey that will pit them against the Russian Mafia, a Neo-Confederate Militia, the State Police and the FBI, and end with The Band competing in a Battle of the Bands competition against The Louisiana Gator boys led by B.B. King!
This movie wasn't that great of a sequel.  But as for the fun factor, its a 10!  The Blues Brothers were originated out of an idea that said 'You know what'd be fun?'.  And that's what it was, a fun time making a funny movie. And that's exactly what they did with The Blues Brothers 2000.  There's nothing to be taken seriously, and nothing that doesn't please SOMEONE. It was fun to see how everyone 'grew up' and how they'd changed after their big show from before.  9 out of 10
This movie is beyond bad.  It is in that rarified nether-region where you can't really believe that what you are watching is really happening.  I know, I know...it's just a movie, right?  WRONG!  The original Blues Brothers was an event, a symphony of chaos and destruction.  This movie is a slap in the face to anyone who liked the original.  You know you shouldn't make a sequel when most of your original cast looks like they have been embalmed.  The original had John Lee Hooker, this piece of trash has Jonny Lang?!  I'm sorry, but John Goodman, Joe Morton, and that little kid do not have a tenth of the talent that John Belushi and John Candy would have on their worst day.  I can't believe Ackroyd lost all that weight for this (although he does look very good).  Landis should have his film-makers license revoked.  What's next...a sequel to Animal House?
