Thank you all for bringing these matters to our attention, and for weighing in. Your perspective is valuable and we take every post under consideration. I have read every single post in ever iteration of this thread starting this morning. There is a lot of turmoil on the forums right now, in QCS, in the mod forum, and in the various subforums. FYAD is a cornerstone of the SA forums, and it seems like everyone and their dog has an opinion on it.

FYAD is important. FYAD is one of the oldest, most elite, and most prestigious forums on the net. It’s famously [i]The Last Great Troll Lair[/i] (haha) and it’s a meaningful component of these fine forums. It’s long served as a commentary on the internet at large, all the worst parts of it, sardonically lampooned with scathing wit. We’re one of the oldest communities on the internet and we have a legacy to uphold. We take that seriously. That said, recent events (duh) have caused us to take a look at what the forum has evolved into, and consider whether or not it’s congruous with the broader forums culture and vision.

First, take into consideration the original FYAD rules:
[quote] FYAD Freedoms: You cannot post illegal material, harass others by posting their personal information or nude photos, spam thread subject lines to break the forum tables, harass any admins or mods, or start forum invasions in FYAD.[/quote]

That’s it. It’s a relaxed forum. While that might have owned when it was written, the Internet has changed now and it requires a different tack. We’re adding a small addendum to the FYAD rules:

2. No posting about other subs. This isn't helldump.

This is the lightest possible touch that will bring FYAD into the modern era. We’ve all seen the rest of the Internet devolve in a toxic swamp of racists, bigots, cyber-freaks and irate misanthropes. We have worked hard here on the SA forums to keep that infinite tide at bay, and will continue to do so. Together, as a community, we will persevere.

Further, since an unacceptable culture was allowed to fester in FYAD, we’ll be replacing the mod, and rolling them more into the general mod team. No longer will the FYAD mod be on a fortified island, but instead one of a growing number of caring, dutiful volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain this website along a cohesive vision. We will be more proactive in shepherding the realignment of the forum, without destroying that which has made it so famous/infamous.

We want every member of our community to feel safe and welcome.
