  20. [19:56] <~flibbyjibbits> 1234 present in this room
  21. [19:56] <Moonside> I'm here.
  22. [19:56] <~flibbyjibbits> df is logged on but i believe he is playing league at the moment
  23. [19:56] <~flibbyjibbits> that leaves bgh not here currently
  24. [19:56] <CommodoreJim> WHEEEEE
  25. [19:57] <Eltrotraw> is he playing with brian and that other guy
  26. [19:57] <~flibbyjibbits> i believe so i think
  27. [20:00] <Eltrotraw> gonna record another part then
  28. [20:25] * Deathfish64 ([email protected]) has joined #adventure
  29. [20:25] <Moonside> Hey df.
  30. [20:26] <Deathfish64> Hi
  31. [20:26] <Deathfish64> We're still waiting currently, right?
  32. [20:26] <Moonside> Yeah.
  33. [20:26] <~flibbyjibbits> unless every present person votes to go we can wait
  34. [20:27] <Deathfish64> I would rather wait a little longer anyway
  35. [21:20] <Moonside> So...
  36. [21:21] <Deathfish64> I would currently be willing to just start, but currently Jim is in a game
  37. [21:22] <Skeleton> I'm gonna eat soon
  38. [21:24] <Skeleton> I'll be back in... no more than an hour and a half
  39. [21:24] <~flibbyjibbits> long dinner
  40. [21:24] <~flibbyjibbits> have fun i guess
  41. [21:24] <Skeleton> Well I dunno if it's done yet
  42. [21:24] <Skeleton> I could be back a lot sooner
  43. [21:24] <~flibbyjibbits> ill jsut keep writing because i thought of a neat thing that might be fun
  44. [21:24] <Moonside> Hmm.
  45. [21:24] <Skeleton> Just making a guess
  46. [21:26] <~flibbyjibbits> i need some music for writing this
  47. [21:26] <Moonside> www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q-gHrEaEAs
  48. [21:28] <~flibbyjibbits> http://youtu.be/yM3uWp5d1Fs luca turilli music has so far been the background for all of the writing beyond the first arc
  49. [21:31] <Moonside> That's pretty good.
  50. [21:33] <~flibbyjibbits> i was somehwat surprised to learn the lead singer of his band is an elderly african woman
  51. [21:35] <Moonside> Wow, that's... amazing.
  52. [21:36] <~flibbyjibbits> maybe not elderly, like middle age
  53. [21:36] <~flibbyjibbits> which makes more sense
  54. [21:37] <~flibbyjibbits> though in retrospect the songs that confused me the most were probably a different singer
  55. [21:49] <~flibbyjibbits> why do earth elementals need the climb skill when they can just slide through any stone or dirt material freely
  56. [21:50] <Deathfish64> To climb metal ladders?
  57. [21:50] <Moonside> For when what they're climbing is not stone or dirt?
  58. [21:50] <Deathfish64> Or trees
  59. [21:50] <Deathfish64> Climbing trees makes sense
  60. [21:50] <~flibbyjibbits> i guess
  61. [21:57] * Deathfish64 ([email protected]) Quit (Connection closed)
  62. [22:11] <~flibbyjibbits> alright i have like 2 levels worth plotted out. now if only everyone was here
  63. [22:16] <Moonside> Hmmm...
  64. [22:16] <~flibbyjibbits> im looking at this boss creatures stats and there is no way it is actually cr3
  65. [22:17] <Moonside> Is that... a good thing?
  66. [22:17] <~flibbyjibbits> im going to have to either tone it down or give you some help with it
  67. [22:17] <~flibbyjibbits> the nature of this help will depend on decisions you make earlier
  68. [22:20] <Moonside> So flib, why exactly did you say that Druids were broken, again?
  69. [22:20] <~flibbyjibbits> they can cast like a cleric, but have the durability and damage output of a fighter/barbarian
  70. [22:21] <~flibbyjibbits> and utility like a ranger and cleric at the same time
  71. [22:21] <Moonside> Whoa.
  72. [22:25] <Moonside> A different kind of balance.
  73. [22:29] <Eltrotraw> natural spell is a feat you can also take on druids
  74. [22:29] <Eltrotraw> meaning you can stay in shifted form while casting spells too
  75. [22:29] * Gilgamesh ([email protected]) has joined #adventure
  76. [22:40] <CommodoreJim> Hey guy
  77. [22:40] <CommodoreJim> s
  78. [22:40] <~flibbyjibbits> hi
  79. [22:40] <Moonside> Hey.
  80. [22:41] <CommodoreJim> Terrible game of League :(
  81. [22:42] * Deathfish64 ([email protected]) has joined #adventure
  82. [22:43] <Moonside> Yay!
  83. [22:43] <Deathfish64> omg
  84. [22:43] <Moonside> Now it's just Skeleton's dinner.
  85. [22:43] <~flibbyjibbits> im gonna do a tribes match while waitingf
  86. [22:45] <Skeleton> Back
  87. [22:45] <Skeleton> Oh, and not a moment too soon I see
  88. [22:45] <Skeleton> My timing is almost magical :UUU
  89. [22:45] <Moonside> Wooo!
  90. [22:45] <CommodoreJim> Flib no come baaaack D:
  91. [22:46] <~flibbyjibbits> dont worry my team was that bad.
  92. [22:47] <~flibbyjibbits> I did get one swickass midair disc though
  93. [22:47] <~flibbyjibbits> too bad it was the jugg's sidearm rocker launcher that does super low damage though
  94. [22:47] <~flibbyjibbits> any other class's launcher that woulda totally been an instant kill
  95. [22:48] <Gilgamesh> sidearm rocket launcher
  96. [22:48] <~flibbyjibbits> anyways are we all ready and here and ready to begin
  97. [22:48] <Gilgamesh> that just seems... contradictory?
  98. [22:48] <Moonside> Yeah.
  99. [22:48] <CommodoreJim> Uh, just one second
  100. [22:48] <~flibbyjibbits> the juggs primary is an artillery strike, bgh
  101. [22:48] <~flibbyjibbits> then unlockables are sidearm chaingun, and grenade slot freehand throwing of a rocket disc
  102. [22:49] <Deathfish64> brb bathroom
  103. [22:49] <Skeleton> brb raptors
  104. [22:51] <CommodoreJim> Back
  105. [22:51] <Moonside> Alright, I'm ready now.
  106. [22:51] <Skeleton> I have slain all the raptors
  107. [22:53] <~flibbyjibbits> 3/6
  108. [22:54] <Moonside> Eltro, bgh.
  109. [22:55] <Gilgamesh> I'm here
  110. [22:55] <Deathfish64> I'm ready
  111. [22:56] <Skeleton> Wahoo
  112. [22:56] <~flibbyjibbits> 5/6 just waiting on eltro to say hes here but i guess we can just start and he can catch up since theres not yet missable
  113. [22:56] <Gilgamesh> oh
  114. [22:56] <Gilgamesh> it's apparently earth hour right now?
  115. [22:56] <Gilgamesh> oh ll!
  116. [22:56] <Moonside> It was for me 1:30 hours ago.
  117. [22:56] <~flibbyjibbits> so anyways what did we leave off with
  118. [22:56] <Gilgamesh> we had some sick potion buying action
  119. [22:57] <Gilgamesh> and that was about it
  120. [22:57] <~flibbyjibbits> leaving the hole, city guards went in to round up whats left down there, drom and tombs went to the potion store
  121. [22:57] <~flibbyjibbits> so it is time to report back to the castle
  122. [22:57] <Moonside> Yeah.
  123. [22:57] <Gilgamesh> weren't we right below the castle?
  124. [22:58] <Deathfish64> Ouch I bit my toungue
  125. [22:58] <Moonside> Yeah, but unless we blew up the wall, we wouldn't be able to get back to it.
  126. [22:58] <CommodoreJim> Sure, if we blew up th---
  127. [22:58] <Deathfish64> ...No serious damage, carry on
  128. [22:58] <Gilgamesh> too bad I wasn't level 3
  129. [22:58] <Gilgamesh> I could have simply WALKED THROUGH THE WALL ;o
  130. [22:58] <Gilgamesh> :o
  131. [22:58] <Deathfish64> And left us behind
  132. [22:58] <~flibbyjibbits> wall got magic wards on it
  133. [22:59] <Gilgamesh> oh :<
  134. [22:59] <~flibbyjibbits> tower belongs to super paranoid mage
  135. [22:59] <Skeleton> Super Paranoia Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
  136. [22:59] <~flibbyjibbits> so anyways
  137. [22:59] <~flibbyjibbits> anyone else got anything to do before making your report
  138. [23:00] <Moonside> Well, I wanted to buy that lamellar cuirass, but I can do that later?
  139. [23:00] <Deathfish64> nope
  140. [23:00] <~flibbyjibbits> yeah you can do that on the way out
  141. [23:00] <Skeleton> Guess I'm fine
  142. [23:00] <CommodoreJim> Can we assume I took the potion so my lungs aren't falling out of my chest
  143. [23:00] <~flibbyjibbits> yes
  144. [23:00] <~flibbyjibbits> how many were there, 5?
  145. [23:00] <CommodoreJim> Yeah, 5
  146. [23:01] <~flibbyjibbits> one'll fix you up
  147. [23:01] <~flibbyjibbits> so 4 left
  148. [23:01] <Moonside> I probably need one too.
  149. [23:01] <Deathfish64> I think we can assume Tombs also used one
  150. [23:01] <Deathfish64> Might be better to ask Eltro, though
  151. [23:01] <CommodoreJim> Alright, I took one. And Tombs too probably. I'll hand one to Lotte and carry the other two around until needed I guess.
  152. [23:01] <~flibbyjibbits> k then
  153. [23:02] <~flibbyjibbits> The guards are expecting you, one offers to escort you up to the west tower
  154. [23:02] <Moonside> Also, can I say that Lotte fell asleep on the way back?
  155. [23:02] <Moonside> Or well, just fainted while getting out of the hole.
  156. [23:03] <~flibbyjibbits> yeah sure, if someone wants to carry you or whatever
  157. [23:03] <~flibbyjibbits> or maybe we can say one of the guards does it
  158. [23:03] <~flibbyjibbits> just since the strong guy in the group wasnt himself in great shape
  159. [23:04] <Moonside> Sure.
  160. [23:04] <Eltrotraw> oh, uh, yeah, sure
  161. [23:04] <Eltrotraw> one potion can heal 9 hp?
  162. [23:04] <CommodoreJim> (Well if taking 5 makes you OD and die :Y)
  163. [23:04] <~flibbyjibbits> these are 1d8, but since this isnt a dangerous situation we can just assume the rest of the injuries will be patched up by workers in the castle or through natural healing
  164. [23:05] <Deathfish64> regen
  165. [23:05] <~flibbyjibbits> [she was remarking that she didnt think youd have lived through damage that would nesseciatate 5 of them
  166. [23:05] <Skeleton> Plot twist, everyone is Wolverine
  167. [23:05] <Deathfish64> Healing factor is too OP
  168. [23:05] <Moonside> Fast healing?
  169. [23:05] <CommodoreJim> I'm the best there is at what I do. And what I do ain't pretty. *gibs a gnome*
  170. [23:06] <~flibbyjibbits> am i wrong in thinking that sleeping overnight heals a bit?
  171. [23:06] <CommodoreJim> I don't think so
  172. [23:06] <~flibbyjibbits> am i remembering this incorrectly?
  173. [23:06] <Deathfish64> It probably should heal at least a little
  174. [23:07] <Moonside> Well, we'll be fully healed somehow anyway, right?
  175. [23:07] <Deathfish64> Not serious wounds, but some minor natural healing should occur
  176. [23:07] <Moonside> (except for freddie who didn't even get hit)
  177. [23:07] <CommodoreJim> (Man, fuck Freddie)
  178. [23:07] <Deathfish64> (I also did not get hit)
  179. [23:07] <CommodoreJim> (I mean hey Freddie)
  180. [23:07] <Skeleton> I am too likeable to be targetted!
  181. [23:07] <Skeleton> That must be it
  182. [23:07] <CommodoreJim> Or not enough of a threat.
  183. [23:08] <~flibbyjibbits> ill look this up later lets just say theres some apprentice priest at the chapel or whatever who mops up the couple odd hp here and there leftover from the potion
  184. [23:08] <Gilgamesh> I'm pretty sure I took like 2 damage total
  185. [23:08] <Moonside> Nah df, your eidolon got hit
  186. [23:08] <Moonside> .
  187. [23:08] <~flibbyjibbits> ANYWAY
  188. [23:08] <Deathfish64> Yes, my eidolon got hit
  189. [23:08] <Deathfish64> But that isn't me
  190. [23:08] <Deathfish64> Speaking of, I forget if I brought it back to full health or not
  191. [23:09] <~flibbyjibbits> the west tower is primarily a library, many floored, with a winding staircase that leads to the top; here there are a couple more bookshelves, several benches, and a circle engraved in the wooden floor, perhaps ten feet across
  192. [23:10] <~flibbyjibbits> [also i looked it up; 8 hours of sleep you regain your level in hp]
  193. [23:10] <CommodoreJim> (Neat)
  194. [23:10] <Moonside> If I were awake, I'd curse the fact that I'm sleeping... er, wait, this doesn't make sense.
  195. [23:10] <Eltrotraw> so basically 4-10 hp every 8 hours of sleep
  196. [23:11] <Moonside> You also fully recover your ki after that amount of sleep, so I assume other things as well besides those two.
  197. [23:11] <~flibbyjibbits> The guard steps into the circle, "Everyone get in, this'll teleport us to the other tower; theres no mundane entrace to it, so only guests he's expecting can get through this way."
  198. [23:11] <CommodoreJim> "The old man is always so dramatic about the simplest things..." I mutter as I step into the circle.
  199. [23:11] <Skeleton> "What do you do if there's a fire?"
  200. [23:11] <Skeleton> "And the teleport is out of order?"
  201. [23:12] <~flibbyjibbits> He holds out his hand, stopping Freddie from stepping in, "Uh, not sure how to put this, but you might want to stay outside, or in here I mean. He, uh, gets really angry around elves."
  202. [23:12] <Gilgamesh> "You use other means"
  203. [23:12] <Gilgamesh> "like explosives."
  204. [23:12] <Skeleton> "Uh?"
  205. [23:12] <Skeleton> "What do you mean 'really angry'"
  206. [23:13] <Moonside> He's RACIST
  207. [23:13] <~flibbyjibbits> "Yeah I'm really sorry about this, but he is a bit on in years and still has fresh his memories of the war with Farim and he can only think of elves as enemy combatants since then."
  208. [23:13] <Deathfish64> Tree hugging hippies
  209. [23:13] <Skeleton> "I bet I'm further on in his years and still young"
  210. [23:13] <Eltrotraw> "You think he's bluffin'?"
  211. [23:13] <Deathfish64> "I don't think he'd appreciate comments like that either, Freddie."
  212. [23:14] <Skeleton> "Nah, fine, it's fine, I'll wait out here then"
  213. [23:14] <CommodoreJim> "I'll tell you what he says, Ser Freddie."
  214. [23:14] <CommodoreJim> *Sir
  215. [23:14] <Skeleton> "Sure, I'll just wait outside then"
  216. [23:15] <Moonside> Whoever's carrying Lotte puts her in the circle or something.
  217. [23:16] <~flibbyjibbits> The ring in the floor glows blue, and the glow slowly spreads inward from the edges until the circle is fully lit up; from Freddie's perspective they just kinda disappeared. From their perspective it looks like the scenery just suddenly changed to a stone chamber, theres a large wooden door with red tapestries on either side of it
  218. [23:16] <Skeleton> "I'll try not to get hit by a meteor or something"
  219. [23:16] <~flibbyjibbits> I assume the guard is carrying her for now
  220. [23:16] <~flibbyjibbits> actually maybe we should assume that she was brought to like
  221. [23:16] <Deathfish64> Do we really need to bring an unconscious person to the report?
  222. [23:16] <~flibbyjibbits> an infirmary, to stay there
  223. [23:16] <~flibbyjibbits> yeah I just realized that
  224. [23:16] <Deathfish64> That makes more sense
  225. [23:16] <Moonside> That's probably better.
  226. [23:17] <~flibbyjibbits> dunno what I was thinking, she was brought down to the medical chambers to be watched over
  227. [23:17] <Skeleton> "Damn old people... so predjudiced. All of them"
  228. [23:17] <Skeleton> I mumble at myself
  229. [23:18] <~flibbyjibbits> the door opens itself, and the Tower Mage is sitting at a stool in the center of a small library-lab
  230. [23:18] <~flibbyjibbits> He waves for you to enter, closing his book and turning towards you all
  231. [23:19] <Moonside> Is this a different mage than the illusionist?
  232. [23:19] <~flibbyjibbits> same guy
  233. [23:19] <CommodoreJim> I nod at him. "Greetings, Sir Mage." I say, despite not particularly liking the guy. But, chivalry! Always chivalry!
  234. [23:19] <Deathfish64> I wave to the Tower Mage and say "Hi."
  235. [23:19] <Gilgamesh> Urist nods to him. "Sir."
  236. [23:20] <~flibbyjibbits> let me find the paper with his name on it since he has a reason to introduce himself now
  237. [23:20] <~flibbyjibbits> [guys name is Telmar, anyone who lives in the city may or may not know that, just based on knowledge of politics and local history and magic, entirely up to you whether your characters know that, not gonna roll for it]
  238. [23:21] <~flibbyjibbits> "What did you find? At the adress the letter specified?"
  239. [23:22] <CommodoreJim> "Explosives set to blow into the castle, for starters."
  240. [23:22] <Gilgamesh> "And an extensive tunnel network leading to the castle."
  241. [23:22] <CommodoreJim> "Dwarves, kobolds. A dwarven summoner..."
  242. [23:23] <Deathfish64> "And this bird!" I hold up the caged parrot.
  243. [23:23] <~flibbyjibbits> [there were also 2 letters, with the same sort of magic ink on them as the first, that you havent decoded yet, just as a reminder]
  244. [23:23] <Moonside> Lotte was carrying them, though.
  245. [23:23] <~flibbyjibbits> oh right
  246. [23:24] <Deathfish64> Freddie had the crystal ball, right?
  247. [23:24] <~flibbyjibbits> "The tunnels and explosives is dire enough. So there were dwarves there? Did they seem to be mercenaries or hirelings or did they have some indication of who they worked for? I do not want to feel like we are entering hostilities with Moldath."
  248. [23:25] <Gilgamesh> "Well, we sort of kept knocking them out..."
  249. [23:25] <~flibbyjibbits> [moldath is the name of the largest nearby dwarf fortress, it is primarily used as a name for that nation as a whole, though the distinction is innacurate]
  250. [23:25] <Moonside> Dwarf fortress you say.
  251. [23:26] <~flibbyjibbits> "Hmm, well, I'm sure the ones who've survived might be able to tell us something when they come-to."
  252. [23:26] <Gilgamesh> actually, would I recognize their handiwork, being a dwarf
  253. [23:26] <Gilgamesh> since we have the axe
  254. [23:26] <~flibbyjibbits> He turns and spins his hand over a crystal ball thats set in the center of a ring-shaped map; it doesn't seem to be any real magic going on, just thinking.
  255. [23:27] <~flibbyjibbits> He walks over to his bookshelf, cracks his wrists together, looking for something
  256. [23:28] <CommodoreJim> Do we talk about the symbols the kobolds had on them
  257. [23:28] <~flibbyjibbits> you can if you want, or talk about the summoner, or anything really
  258. [23:28] <Moonside> The summoner is probably the most important thing there.
  259. [23:29] <CommodoreJim> "The room with the dwarf summoner had its door held shut with...tentacles...?" I mutter. "And there was this object inside that was...like an egg, with clouds inside. But I think it disappeared when he fell."
  260. [23:30] <Deathfish64> "As a summoner, I'm pretty sure he was trying to release something from..." *shifty eyes* "/those/ planes."
  261. [23:30] <Gilgamesh> "Plenty of extraplanar growth, yes."
  262. [23:30] <~flibbyjibbits> "This is," he turns, rubbing his chin," Very concerning."
  263. [23:31] <Eltrotraw> "What's it mean, old man?"
  264. [23:31] <~flibbyjibbits> "May I see that bird, there?"
  265. [23:31] <Deathfish64> I hand him the bird. "Sure."
  266. [23:31] <CommodoreJim> ("Squawk! Fuck you, kill all cops! Squawk!")
  267. [23:32] <Skeleton> caw
  268. [23:32] <Skeleton> I don't think the summoner was performing curses like that
  269. [23:32] <Moonside> ("Dexter's a cookie!")
  270. [23:33] <~flibbyjibbits> He holds the cage up to eye level and stares right into it, it looks like hes mouthing 'Reveal your secrets to me, creature', it squawks "Another Lies to the North!" and he sets it down on the table, then returns to the bookshelf
  271. [23:33] <Gilgamesh> Urist's eyes narrow "Another what?"
  272. [23:33] <Moonside> Mysterious.
  273. [23:33] <CommodoreJim> Another bearldess dwarf, Urist!
  274. [23:33] <CommodoreJim> *beardless
  275. [23:33] <Moonside> There's a whole community of them!
  276. [23:34] <~flibbyjibbits> He retreives a small book, from a glance it seems to be a guide to tropical birds
  277. [23:34] <CommodoreJim> They're given razors as coming of age gifts!
  278. [23:34] <Gilgamesh> "...Disgraceful."
  279. [23:34] <Gilgamesh> er
  280. [23:34] <Gilgamesh> not meant as quotes
  281. [23:34] <Gilgamesh> sorry I'm multitasking here
  282. [23:35] <~flibbyjibbits> "This type of bird is native to a region south of here, in our neighbor nation of Nethu. They're undergoing some political turmoil at the moment, perhaps someone from there could have been involved. I know that the order that runs the place does not take kindly to people taking their birds as pets."
  283. [23:36] <Eltrotraw> Tombs, characteristically scowls at hearing this information.
  284. [23:37] <Deathfish64> How much can a man scowl?
  285. [23:37] <Moonside> Not enough, it seems.
  286. [23:37] <~flibbyjibbits> his unused grit points are used to power extra scowls
  287. [23:37] <Skeleton> Tombs is Commander Badass
  288. [23:37] <Gilgamesh> I like to think of his mouth as just continually inverting itself
  289. [23:37] <Gilgamesh> until his lips form a perfect circle
  290. [23:38] <~flibbyjibbits> "Something wrong, gun-man?"
  291. [23:38] <Gilgamesh> then he opens his mouth, and...
  292. [23:38] <Skeleton> levitating coin of flesh
  293. [23:38] <Gilgamesh> roll for sanity loss
  294. [23:38] <Eltrotraw> "Nothin' wrong," he says dismissively. "I only know that place is shady."
  295. [23:39] <Deathfish64> "Don't worry about him. You know how your parents would say that if you kept making a face then your face would get stuck like that? His actually did."
  296. [23:39] <Skeleton> Haaahahhaaha
  297. [23:40] <~flibbyjibbits> "Mm. Was there anything, anything else that might be a lead? Did they say anything you could understand, did they have," he waves his hands around a bit, searching for the phrase, "Documentation, of who they were or who was paying them or why?"
  298. [23:40] <Gilgamesh> "Wasn't that summoner bloke taking orders from a skeleton?"
  299. [23:41] <Eltrotraw> "Weren' there some letters an' a furnace?"
  300. [23:41] <Deathfish64> "There were a bunch of envelopes and letters in that one room, but the scary dwarf there was throwing them into the fire."
  301. [23:41] <Moonside> Was this skeleton his eidolon?
  302. [23:41] <~flibbyjibbits> the eidolon was the skeleton
  303. [23:41] <Gilgamesh> I don't know, I wasn't there for the summoner fight
  304. [23:41] <Gilgamesh> ok
  305. [23:42] <~flibbyjibbits> [pikkupstix is probably aware that eidolons come FROM somewhere, which may or may not be relevant]
  306. [23:42] <Deathfish64> [more than probably]
  307. [23:42] <Gilgamesh> [planes, man]
  308. [23:42] <Skeleton> Skull-heades snakes on a plane?
  309. [23:42] <Skeleton> *headed
  310. [23:42] <CommodoreJim> I cringe at the mention of the dwarven cavalier.
  311. [23:42] <Moonside> It's extraplanar, I ain't gotta explain shit.
  312. [23:43] <Gilgamesh> "We recovered two letters, but they're currently in the infirmary with another of our party..."
  313. [23:43] <Deathfish64> "We probably should have made sure that we gathered all the important items before we came here! Like that ball thing!"
  314. [23:44] <~flibbyjibbits> "Mmph. Well the skeleton is an interesting twist to this tale, I suppose. But what I want to know now is those letters. Maybe we can wait for her to wake u- what ball thing?"
  315. [23:44] <CommodoreJim> "Ah, yes...the orb..."
  316. [23:44] <CommodoreJim> "Well, the summoner had an orb. One of the kobolds said the dwarf would ask it questions."
  317. [23:45] <Eltrotraw> "The summoner we fought was in a strange ol' room with this here orb."
  318. [23:45] <Deathfish64> "The bird would react to it too."
  319. [23:45] <~flibbyjibbits> [reminder, it is with freddie]
  320. [23:46] <Gilgamesh> "The orb is... with another party member as well! How inconvienient."
  321. [23:46] <~flibbyjibbits> "Who is it with."
  322. [23:46] <~flibbyjibbits> ?*
  323. [23:46] <CommodoreJim> "Our wizard, Freddie.
  324. [23:46] <CommodoreJim> "
  325. [23:48] <~flibbyjibbits> "Hmm." he glances back over to the ball in the map-stand
  326. [23:49] <Moonside> Lotte might've waken up by now.
  327. [23:49] <~flibbyjibbits> she quite may have
  328. [23:49] <Deathfish64> "Maybe one of us should go get those things."
  329. [23:49] <CommodoreJim> "I could go, if needed."
  330. [23:50] <Gilgamesh> Urist would go, but he doesn't particularly want to deal with Lotte's quippiness
  331. [23:50] <~flibbyjibbits> Where Lotte is, it is a medium-ish room, with perhaps a dozen beds in it, six to a side of the room; one of the dwarves from the tunnel lies unconscious in one of them. An attendant sits on a chair by the door, lazily flipping through what looks like a sort of trashy romance novel
  332. [23:50] <~flibbyjibbits> her weapon is sitting on a table next to her bed
  333. [23:50] <CommodoreJim> Well, I'll go get the letters, then, I guess.
  334. [23:51] <~flibbyjibbits> "Sure, go, find them, and bring the letters, and the orb, back here."
  335. [23:51] <~flibbyjibbits> He waves and the teleportation circle lights up again
  336. [23:51] <Moonside> I'm awake, sitting on the bed, looking at the letters, and wondering if I'd be able to translate them.
  337. [23:52] <CommodoreJim> I nod and step into the circle. PSHOOOO
  338. [23:52] <~flibbyjibbits> as a reminder, the pages are blank except for a single symbol at the top; the last one the text appeared in the presence of blood and sunlight. There are several large windows
  339. [23:52] <~flibbyjibbits> Drominus appears back in the library tower
  340. [23:52] <CommodoreJim> I guess I look for Freddie first off, since he was nearest.
  341. [23:53] <Moonside> I take my knife and slightly pick my index finger with it, and drip some of the blood onto one of the letters.
  342. [23:53] <~flibbyjibbits> Telmar begins looking through his bookshelf again
  343. [23:53] <Moonside> Like, enough to see if there's something written, but not enough to screw it up.
  344. [23:53] <CommodoreJim> "Freddie, you around?"
  345. [23:54] <~flibbyjibbits> The first letter is written in a mix of infernal, elfin, and dwarven, it mentions a place where one can pass under the border wall to farim
  346. [23:54] <Moonside> "Hm..."
  347. [23:54] <Moonside> (I thought there'd be a linguistics check)
  348. [23:55] <~flibbyjibbits> linguistics isnt a check, you know the language or dont
  349. [23:55] <Gilgamesh> er
  350. [23:55] <Moonside> Oh right, the check is to forge documents, alright.
  351. [23:55] <Gilgamesh> elfin?
  352. [23:55] <Moonside> Elven.
  353. [23:55] <~flibbyjibbits> elven whatever
  354. [23:55] <Gilgamesh> oh right
  355. [23:55] <CommodoreJim> elvish, elfarian, loserspeak
  356. [23:55] <Gilgamesh> hippietal
  357. [23:55] <Gilgamesh> hippitalk
  358. [23:55] <Deathfish64> eleven
  359. [23:56] <Moonside> Elfish.
  360. [23:56] <CommodoreJim> Ocean's Elven
  361. [23:56] <~flibbyjibbits> the second letter uses a similar mix of languages, seemingly to try to make it difficult to read, but it also mentions the gap, and but it also seems to be a contract with an "underground" mercenary service in Nethu
  362. [23:56] <CommodoreJim> WELL I guess Freddie
  363. [23:56] <CommodoreJim> is not around.
  364. [23:56] <Deathfish64> skeleton
  365. [23:56] <CommodoreJim> So I'll check back for him later and go check on Lotte and the letters.
  366. [23:57] <Eltrotraw> so wait, were the letters read aloud to us?
  367. [23:57] <Skeleton> Yeah yeah
  368. [23:57] <~flibbyjibbits> lotte, as far as i know, is sitting in the infirmary, reading to herself
  369. [23:57] <Skeleton> Freddie is... looking for a restroom
  370. [23:57] <Moonside> oh freddie
  371. [23:57] <~flibbyjibbits> freddie is about halfway down the stairs, heading out
  372. [23:58] <Moonside> This gap is the place through the border wall, yes?
  373. [23:58] <~flibbyjibbits> yes
  374. [23:58] <CommodoreJim> I step into the infirmary, nodding at the attendant. "Good day."
  375. [23:58] <Moonside> I notice Drominus walking in. "Oh, hey."
  376. [23:59] * bghvgjdh ([email protected]) has joined #adventure
  377. [23:59] <~flibbyjibbits> hi
  378. [23:59] <Moonside> Hey.
  379. [23:59] <bghvgjdh> Going to switch computers, so
  380. [23:59] <bghvgjdh> Carry on
  381. [00:00] <~flibbyjibbits> ok sorry about this but i gotta run to the bathroom rq, just handle amongst yourselfs for a minute or two
  382. [00:00] <CommodoreJim> "Ah, Lady Charlotte. You're awake." I smile under my helmet as I step over. "Feeling any better? Oh...wake up, and the first thing you do is go for the letters. Well, can't say I'm surprised."
  383. [00:00] <~flibbyjibbits> the teleport circle will be active until you get back
  384. [00:01] <Moonside> "Heh, of course." I smile a bit. "I'm just a little disappointed that there aren't any more obscure languages in here... oh well."
  385. [00:01] <Gilgamesh> Urist grunts and busies himself examining his new axe while waiting for Drom to get back
  386. [00:01] <Moonside> "I... still have the feeling that something's wrong, but... I'm pretty much alright."
  387. [00:02] <CommodoreJim> I nod. "Something does feel a bit off. But, that could just be the shock of learning I'm not indestructable. You think you're good to come up to the tower? The old man wants to see the letters."
  388. [00:02] <Moonside> "Yeah, sure." I get up and pick up my stuff.
  389. [00:04] <~flibbyjibbits> The infirmary attendant licks her finger and turns another page in her book
  390. [00:04] <CommodoreJim> "Right, then." I head back to the circle, and don't bother checking for Freddie before I step in.
  391. [00:04] <Moonside> I'm momentarily distracted because this seems like a nice library, but then walk into the circle.
  392. [00:05] <CommodoreJim> ("Oh, Urist McSixpack...who do you love more? Me....or the gold?" The baroness asks, her eyes welling up with tears.)
  393. [00:05] <~flibbyjibbits> (yeah I was just looking through the logs to find the title of that)
  394. [00:05] <Moonside> EVERYTHING THAT SHINES IS GOLD
  395. [00:06] <CommodoreJim> I step back into the Mage's tower from the circle. "I've obtained Lady Charlotte and the letters, sir."
  396. [00:06] <CommodoreJim> (GUYS, I'VE OBTAINED GIRL.)
  397. [00:07] <Moonside> "Uh, hello," I greet the mage a bit awkwardly, since he's a little weird. I hand him the letters.
  398. [00:07] <Gilgamesh> (too bad this girl ahs poison tits)
  399. [00:07] <Deathfish64> (CONGRATULATIONS)
  400. [00:07] <Moonside> (why is there so much drom/lotte)
  401. [00:07] <~flibbyjibbits> "Good." Telmar says, turning and tearing a map out of a book he had been looking at. "Did you read the letters or were you unable to?"
  402. [00:07] <Deathfish64> (It's the most popular ship in the AVDENTURE fandom right now)
  403. [00:08] <CommodoreJim> (Drom's polite to ladies, he's a knight, that's how he rolls.)
  404. [00:08] <Deathfish64> *ADVENTURE
  405. [00:09] <CommodoreJim> (Freddie loves magic too much, Pik loves monsters too much, Urist is a goldfucker, and Tombs can't take time from his scowling schedule to romance.)
  406. [00:09] <~flibbyjibbits> He sweeps some books and a flask of something or other off the table and lays out the map while waiting for a response
  407. [00:09] <Moonside> "Yes, I did. Let's see, the first one mentions a passage under the border wall to Farim, and the second is a contract with some mercenaries from Nethu."
  408. [00:10] <Gilgamesh> (Tombs had sex once. He scowled the entire time. She never came back)
  409. [00:10] <Skeleton> Ha
  410. [00:11] <CommodoreJim> (Doesn't help that he describes himself as havin' a "double-barrel")
  411. [00:11] <Moonside> I dunno how to explain that Lotte suddenly knows Infernal.
  412. [00:11] <CommodoreJim> A wizard did it.
  413. [00:11] <Deathfish64> Just say you leveled up
  414. [00:11] <~flibbyjibbits> He hands Lotte a couple of colored pins, and gestures towards the map [The border gap is in a small town built right up against it called "asaida", the contracter service is in the western side of the nation, near Farim, in a medium sized city called 'tholest']
  415. [00:11] * CommodoreJim waves at Freddie
  416. [00:11] <Moonside> Fair enough.
  417. [00:11] <Eltrotraw> (well tombs has other things on his plate right now unless you want him to be a womanizer :3c)
  418. [00:11] <Skeleton> See, I am helpfulllllllllllll
  419. [00:11] <Eltrotraw> (would feel ooc tho)
  420. [00:12] <Deathfish64> (too busy looking for twists of fate to love)
  421. [00:12] <~flibbyjibbits> maybe while she was knocked out from whatever it was some of the summoner's influence rubbed off on her
  422. [00:12] <Gilgamesh> Man, those "learn language" spells sure are handt
  423. [00:12] <Gilgamesh> handy
  424. [00:12] <Moonside> I put the pins in the places described.
  425. [00:12] <Moonside> Also, flib, is knowing or using necril forbidden or frowned upon or something?
  426. [00:12] <~flibbyjibbits> is necril a language?
  427. [00:13] <Moonside> The one that undead speak, apparently.
  428. [00:13] <~flibbyjibbits> it would probably be quite frowned upon to speak it
  429. [00:13] <Moonside> Hmm.
  430. [00:13] <Deathfish64> Speak Japanese instead
  431. [00:13] <Deathfish64> ("Watashi wa kawaii desu")
  432. [00:14] <~flibbyjibbits> 'secret language only undead and necromancers tend to know' and whatnot, it probably wouldnt be a good idea to go around using phrases from it
  433. [00:14] <CommodoreJim> ("I-it's not like I like adventuring with you guys or anything!")
  434. [00:14] <Moonside> Well, not that secret apparently.
  435. [00:14] <~flibbyjibbits> to use a politically incorrect metaphor it might be comparable to going on a tour of washington dc and speaking in arabic
  436. [00:14] <~flibbyjibbits> in terms of how people would veiw it
  437. [00:15] <Moonside> I see.
  438. [00:15] <Moonside> Oh right, df reminded me that I was going to ask. Is there an eastern language here?
  439. [00:16] <~flibbyjibbits> to the east mostly lies mountainous regions where the dwarves and orcs live, and beyond that a desert. unless you mean like irl eastern-culture equivalents
  440. [00:16] <Moonside> I meant far-east cultures like the dragon empire stuff, but well.
  441. [00:17] <~flibbyjibbits> that then uh hm
  442. [00:17] <~flibbyjibbits> just using the ones named in the pfsrd lets say tien
  443. [00:17] <Moonside> Ok.
  444. [00:17] <~flibbyjibbits> since i dont feel like making up languages
  445. [00:18] <~flibbyjibbits> "Asaida. I Always suspected that was where the elfs were getting into our nation from. Too many hybrids living there for it to be otherwise. "
  446. [00:19] <Eltrotraw> "There a problem with that?"
  447. [00:21] <~flibbyjibbits> "I was alive during our war with them. I still don't like them. I'll dispatch some troops to the town, under the guise of, I don't know, just some checkup."
  448. [00:21] <~flibbyjibbits> "This place in Nethu, the town of Tholest... May I ask of you to go there for me?"
  449. [00:22] <Gilgamesh> Urist wants to mention something about the legality of the act of dispatching troops, but holds his tongue due to addressing a superior officer and also elves.
  450. [00:22] <~flibbyjibbits> "I can give you the official title of our investigators, the title of, erm. I cannot remember the exact wording at the moment, but theres benefits to it."
  451. [00:22] <~flibbyjibbits> asaida is a town within the nation, urist
  452. [00:22] <~flibbyjibbits> its just right on the border
  453. [00:23] <Gilgamesh> oh
  454. [00:23] <Gilgamesh> nevermind then!
  455. [00:23] <Moonside> "Huh... well, I'll have to tell my boss at the library that I'll be away for an indefinite amount of time, then. She's probably already mad at me for being missing for a couple days already."
  456. [00:24] <Gilgamesh> "This is a bit more important than shelvin' books, methinks."
  457. [00:24] <CommodoreJim> "...I serve my kingdom." is all I have to say on the matter.
  458. [00:24] <Moonside> Of course, I'd prefer to continue reading the book that I was forced to stop in the middle of, but I don't say that, or the little man would get angrier.
  459. [00:24] <Deathfish64> "Excitement!"
  460. [00:24] <Gilgamesh> "Considerin' we've got no-good scumbag /criminals/ on the loose..."
  461. [00:25] <Gilgamesh> "It ought to be fixed."
  462. [00:25] <~flibbyjibbits> "I can not, obviously, send real soldiers into another country, but a small band of our people, yourselves, can likely be allowed into the nation on diplomatic grounds. I think that, even given their own problems, the Order will allow you to track criminals there."
  463. [00:26] <Moonside> I sigh. "Well... when are we going, then?"
  464. [00:28] <~flibbyjibbits> He throws his arms up in the air momentarily. "Those who are willing can leave in the morning, there is a bit to prepare first. I, eh," He digs around in one of his several piles of books and papers, "You, uh, can stay at the castle if you like overnight, or if you live elsewhere in the city, but, I can give you some money to get some supplies with, but you can't leave until morning anyways...
  465. [00:28] <~flibbyjibbits> ...because I must draft the papers to gain you entry."
  466. [00:29] <Gilgamesh> "Some money would be nice. I could use some sturdier armor if we're going into more dangerous situations."
  467. [00:29] <Moonside> "...I was planning on doing some shopping anyway."
  468. [00:29] <CommodoreJim> "I suppose I could use some new armor...and I should visit Melange, she's probably worried about me."
  469. [00:29] <~flibbyjibbits> "But, before you go," he tosses a small sack of coins in the general direction of the party, "I want your opinion on this, Urist and Drominus."
  470. [00:29] <Gilgamesh> "This padded chestpiece... doesn't do much."
  471. [00:29] <CommodoreJim> I catch the bag, raising an eyebrow.
  472. [00:29] <Gilgamesh> "On what? The gold?"
  473. [00:30] <CommodoreJim> ("No you can't stick your dick in the sack")
  474. [00:30] <Gilgamesh> Urist has a storng opinion on the gold.
  475. [00:30] <Moonside> Urist spends some time alone with the gold.
  476. [00:30] <Gilgamesh> guess where I keep my coinpurse, guys
  477. [00:30] <Gilgamesh> go on
  478. [00:30] <Gilgamesh> guess
  479. [00:30] <~flibbyjibbits> he goes over again to the glass orb in the stand in the corner, "We still have not released the information regarding the king, " he said, placing his hand on the orb, which swirls and flares bright green, similar to the orb the summoner had.
  480. [00:31] <CommodoreJim> My expression darkens. Not that anyone would see.
  481. [00:31] <CommodoreJim> "The king..."
  482. [00:31] <Gilgamesh> "Well, how likely is it you can keep up the deception?"
  483. [00:31] <~flibbyjibbits> The image of the king appears before you, none of you are able to tell that it is not an illusion, "You both saw the king quite regularly, do you think I'm getting his voice correctly?" he says, the sound coming both from the mage's mouth and the illusory king
  484. [00:31] <CommodoreJim> I still feel guilty about it.
  485. [00:32] <Gilgamesh> "...oh, I see."
  486. [00:32] <Moonside> "Whoa, that's pretty good."
  487. [00:32] <CommodoreJim> "...try with a bit less gravel in the voice."
  488. [00:32] <Gilgamesh> "It sounds like a passable imitation to me, especially to a commoner who wouldn't have seen him much."
  489. [00:33] <~flibbyjibbits> "Bah," he swats his hand through the vision's head, dispelling it, "I'll just say he has a throat sickness and can't talk. At least people will be able to see him."
  490. [00:33] <Gilgamesh> "Obviously his close court already knows, so..."
  491. [00:33] <Skeleton> throat sickness. It's terminal
  492. [00:33] <Skeleton> We have to amputate the throat
  493. [00:33] <~flibbyjibbits> the sickness is he has an arrow in it
  494. [00:33] <Moonside> Now I'm the one who has to go to the bathroom, brb.
  495. [00:33] <Skeleton> Ha! Ha!
  496. [00:34] <CommodoreJim> I nod. "It'll do fine." I turn my back to the Mage, glancing over my shoulder. "Are we dismissed then, sir?"
  497. [00:34] <~flibbyjibbits> "Yes, yes, make some preperations, get a good sleep, and meet back in the courtyard in the morning, I'll have prepared the paperwork and the map."
  498. [00:35] <~flibbyjibbits> He waves the door open again, the circle lighting up once more.
  499. [00:35] <CommodoreJim> I nod. "Yessir." I then quickly exit the room.
  500. [00:35] <Gilgamesh> I nod as well. "Aye."
  501. [00:35] <Deathfish64> I say "Bye, then!" and also leave
  502. [00:36] <Moonside> "Bye." I leave as well.
