  1. >>>Investigator (Blue Mage)
  2.
  3. Not all investigators dabble in complex alchemical experiments to explore deepest secrets of magic or the world around them. Instead the Blue Mage trusts his hearty fortitude, innate magical powers, and mutagenic concoctions to mime his environment or his enemies. That said, nature may be a harsh mistress and sometimes learning can be painful.

  7. >>Spell-like Abilities (Sp)
  8.
  9. Instead of relying on alchemical research to find clues, a Blue Mage relies on interaction with the world around him. At 1st level, a Blue Mage gains the ability to use two 1st-level druid spells as spell-like abilities. These spell-like abilities can be cast once per day. For every two class levels after gaining a spell level of spell-like abilities, he may choose to gain either a new spell-like ability of the or an additional use per day of each ability in that spell level. For example, when a Blue Mage advances to 3rd level, he may choose to gain either a third 1st level druid spell as a spell-like ability usable 1/day or gain an additional use in each of his two current spell-like like abilities.
  10.
  11. As he goes up in level, the Blue Mage gains the ability to use other spell-like abilities as above. At 4th level, he gains the ability to use two 2nd-level druid spells as spell-like abilities. At 7th level, he gains the ability to use two 3rd-level druid spells as spell-like abilities. At 10th level, he gains the ability to use two 4th-level druid spells as spell-like abilities. At 13th level, he gains the ability to use two 5th-level druid spells as spell-like abilities. At 16th level, he gains the ability to use two 6th level druid spells as spell-like abilities.
  12.
  13. Upon reaching 4th level, and at every even-numbered investigator level after that (6th, 8th, and so on), a Blue Mage can choose to learn a new spell-like ability in place of one he already knows. In effect, the Blue Mage loses the old spell-like ability in exchange for the new one. The new spell's level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. A Blue Mage may swap only a single spell-like ability at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell-like ability at the same time that he gains new spell-like abilities known for the level.
  14.
  15. The Blue Mage's caster level for these effects is equal to his investigator level, and the save DC is equal to 10 + the spell's level + his Intelligence modifier. To use a spell, he must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell-like ability's spell level. A Blue Mage does not receive additional uses of his spell-like abilities, nor additional spell-like abilities if he has a high Intelligence score.
  16.
  17. This ability replaces alchemy. A Blue Mage cannot take the alchemist discovery talent or any investigator talent that affects alchemy.

  21. >>Blue Mage's Inspiration (Ex)
  22.
  23. A Blue Mage is beyond knowledgeable and skilled—he also possesses keen powers of observation and deduction that far surpass the abilities of others. An investigator typically uses these powers to aid in their investigations, but can also use these flashes of inspiration in other situations.
  24.
  25. A Blue Mage has the ability to augment skill checks and ability checks through his brilliant inspiration. The Blue Mage has an inspiration pool equal to 1/2 his investigator level + his Constitution modifier (minimum 1). A Blue Mage's inspiration pool refreshes each day, typically after he gets a restful night's sleep. As a free action, he can expend one use of inspiration from his pool to add 1d6 to the result of that check, including any on which he takes 10 or 20. This choice is made after the check is rolled and before the results are revealed. A Blue Mage can only use inspiration once per check or roll. The Blue Mage can use inspiration on any Knowledge, Linguistics, or Spellcraft skill checks without expending a use of inspiration, provided he's trained in the skill.
  26.
  27. Inspiration can also be used on attack rolls and saving throws, at the cost of expending two uses of inspiration each time from the Blue Mage's pool. In the case of saving throws, using inspiration is an immediate action rather than a free action.
  28.
  29. Additionally, any investigator's class feature that normally uses a calculation based on Intelligence is instead based on Constitution for a Blue Mage. For example, a Blue Mage with the Prolonged Study investigator talent's studied combat ability lasts for a number of rounds equal to twice his Constitution bonus, not his Intelligence bonus. This has no effect on the Blue Mage's skills or skill points.
  30.
  31. This ability alters inspiration.

  34.
  35. >>Mimic's Mutagen (Su)
  36.
  37. At 3rd level, a Blue Mage discovers how to create a special elixir that he can imbibe in order to emulate the abilitites of various entities he has encountered at the cost of his intellect. When consumed, the elixir causes the Blue Mage to take on a variety of features ranging from those of animals or monstrous humanoids to those of the undead or elementals. For example, when the Blue Mage uses his mutagen, he may gain a furry muzzle and pointed ears like a werewolf, scaly skin and breath fire like a dragon, or two flickering points for eyes like that of a wraith. The Blue Mage also gains his choice of one of the abilities listed in the alter self spell, which persists as long as the mutagen. He may select a different ability each time he creates a mutagen.
  38.
  39. At 6th level, a Blue Mages’s mutagen grants him additional abilities and options. The alchemist gains his choice of two of the abilities listed in the Beast Shape I, Undead Anatomy I, or Monstrous Physique I spells, which persist as long as the mutagen. He may select two different abilities each time he creates a mutagen.
  40.
  41. At 10th level, a Blue Mages’s mutagen grants him three of the abilities listed in the Beast Shape II, Undead Anatomy II, Monstrous Physique II, or Elemental Body I spells, which persist as long as the mutagen. He may select three different abilities each time he creates a mutagen.
  42.
  43. At 14th level, a Blue Mage’s mutagen grants him four of the abilities listed in the Beast Shape III, Undead Anatomy III, Monstrous Physique III, Elemental Body II, or Form of the Dragon I spells, which persist as long as the mutagen. He may select four different abilities each time he creates a mutagen.
  44.
  45. A Blue Mage who drinks an alchemist's mutagen is treated as a non-alchemist. All limitations to mutagens apply to mimic's mutagen as if it were the same ability. A blue mage may not select the mutagen alchemist discovery as an investigator talent.
  46.
  47. This ability replaces the investigator talent gained at 3rd level, as well as swift alchemy, trap sense, trapfinding, poison immunity, and poison resistance +2, +4, and +6.

  52. >>Copycat Magic (Su)
  53.
  54. At 5th level, a Blue Mage is learned in the magic of other spellcasters, and can use his own innate magic to duplicate those classes' spells. Once per day, a Blue Mage can cast any spell on the bard, cleric, or sorcerer/wizard spell list as if it were one of his spell-like abilities, expending a use of a spell-like ability of the same spell level to cast the desired spell. Casting a spell with Copycat Magic always has a minimum casting time of 1 full round, regardless of the casting time of the spell.
  55.
  56. At 11th level, a Blue Mage can use this ability twice per day. At 17th level, he can use this ability three times per day.
  57.
  58. This ability replaces true inspiration.
  59.
  60.
  61.
  62.
  63. >>Learning (Su)
  64.
  65. The Blue Mage can learn to cast a spell by suffering from its effects. When the Blue Mage fails a saving throw against a spell cast by an enemy, as an immediate action he can expend 1 point from his inspiration pool to temporarily acquire the spell. He can then cast the spell as a spell-like ability in place of one his spell-like ability spell slots as if it was a spell-like ability he had chosen via his Spell-Like Ability class feature. The spell must be on the sorcerer/wizard spell list and must be of a level that he can cast. The ability to cast this spell remains for a number of rounds equal to the Blue Mage's Constitution modifier (minimum 1).
  66.
  67. This ability replaces the investigator talent gained at 11th level.
