Castlevania 2 Speedrun Route Planning

head to east side of starting town
buy white crystal
leave east side of town
grind for 50 hearts
(this will probably take through first night, so keep collecting hearts)
Second day: return to starting town, buy holy water
(should begin second day with around 100 hearts)
once holy water is bought, head east
skip first down staircase
continue east, hit first mansion
(should have at least 100 hearts)
buy stake, get first relic (rib)
buy a second stake on way out of mansion
should leave first mansion with about 50 hearts
from mansion, head west, return to skipped staircase
grind for 150 hearts
descend staircase
head to east of town, stopping at church if really needed
purchase chain whip (150 hearts) from easternmost door
head east, up stairs, then east again
get sacred flame
head east
skip staircase for now
grind for 100 hearts
head east to town, then to east side of town
buy two lots of laurels (100 hearts total)
head to top of town, then all the way west
get blue crystal
head west to staircase
descend staircase
once through cavern screen, stop all movement in screen switch
press and hold down, wait for screen to scroll down.
head east for second mansion
stay on bottom floor, head due east
next screen, climb first staircase
get second relic (heart)
on way back, head east from that first staircase
get a stake
head west, leave mansion
west, upwards, west again
west, upstairs
head all the way west to starting town
equip heart
head west, take ferry across
(note: rib creates a shield)
laurels aren't necessary for first swamp if have enough health
enter mansion
first sub-boss: death
--use sacred flame if plenty of hearts
get third relic (eye)
leave mansion
head east
unequip heart, take ferry across, stay on as it returns west
in town, head up first staircase, jump left, get Red Crystal
leave town to west
keep west, skip stairs, head west through town
grind for 200 hearts
return to town, head to second floor, get Morning Star whip
head all the way west, kneel at cliff for a while
tornado transports you to next mansion
stay on bottom floor, head east, jump through fake wall to east
jump across broken bridge, destroying fake blocks w/holy water
on next screen, go to bottom floor, then east
get fourth relic (nail)
exit manor
head west from manor
empty screen, head west
STOP, hold down, wait for screen to scroll down
head down, west
proceed across bottom row, destroy blocks
get Flame Whip
return to start of screen, head up, then west, leave lower-left corner
use laurels to cross swamp (should have 4 laurels)
(should take 3 to cross screen)
Enter final manor
on second screen jump across to right, then up staircase
on way down on right, BEWARE that tricky jump, and JUMP RIGHT
head right, prepare to fight iron mask
Iron Mask fight:
--stand on fourth block from left, switch to golden dagger
--dodge fireballs, throw dagger when mask circles
get fifth/final relic (ring)
head west along bottom floor, across spikes
get extra laurels
exit manor
head east
laurels to cross swamp
keep heading east
down staircase
east
east through town
once through graveyard, NO MORE ENEMIES through end of game
arrive at Castlevania
once near Dracula, switch to Sacred Flame
Defeat Dracula by repeatedly tossing Sacred Flame
