  1. Overkill 3
  2.
  3. ****
  4.
  5. "Brother, I've got good news for you!"
  6.
  7. Protectorate Alacrity grunted as a blade pierced his left shoulder. The pain subsided quickly just as the enemy inflicted it upon him. He swung his right hand; his armblade extended into view. He impaled the face of the Void Slasher, twisted it, and pulled. Blood sprayed in the air, covering him, his brother and a wounded, but still fighting, SAS Trooper.
  8.
  9. "Spit it out, brother." Alacrity replied as he raised his Ray Pistol and discharged three blasts at the face of a Psychic Titan Demon. "I'm quite busy here." He tossed the handgun in the air and caught it by the barrel. He smashed the skull of another Void Dweller with the butt of his pistol.
  10.
  11. "Protectorate Blackshot arrived with the others and delivered us from the enemy's grasp. Now, we're heading towards your position."
  12.
  13. "What the hell is he doing here?"
  14.
  15. "Surprised me too, brother, but help is a help."
  16.
  17. "But he's fucked in the head! You know what, just get your asses over here." He shuffled his feet and sent a forward kick at an approaching Psychic Titan before firing two rounds at its face. A Hellspawn flew towards him in a suicidal charge. Alacrity ducked, the Hellspawn passes overhead. He raised his free, aching hand and launched a fireball. It disintegrated in a plume of green and red liquid.
  18.
  19. "Where are the Innies?" Protectorate Wheelfire asked as he blasted a duo of Psychic Trooper. "Makes me wonder where they've gone too."
  20.
  21. "Seriously? It doesn't matter. They were just freaking headaches. Why would you want headaches?" Alacrity asked with an annoyed tone as he locked a Void Slasher in a bear hug and snapped its neck. He snatched one of its swords and threw it at a floating torso. Blood and ichor covered them.
  22.
  23. The wounded SAS drew his 29" combat knife and drove it at the chin of a Psychic Titan. It spat blood at his gasmask, smudging his eye lenses with dark crimson liquid. The Demon fell to the ground, dead. Alacrity launched a streak of light at the approaching Hellspawn behind the SAS. The soldier bowed his gratitude before continuing the fight.
  24.
  25. Shortly, the ragtag team of Protectorates, PALADIN and Black Squadron SAS came in full force, mowing down Demons after Demons and Hellspawns after Hellspawns. They reached Alacrity, Wheelfire, and the wounded SAS.
  26.
  27. "Brother," Blackshot greeted.
  28.
  29. "Brother." Alacrity quietly replied. "What brings you here?"
  30.
  31. "Intercession. Now that we have rallied together, it's time for us liberate the city from the enemy's hold."
  32.
  33. "How are we going to do that?" Beartrap interjected.
  34.
  35. "Let me finish first." Blackshot reprimanded. "My TactiComp was synced in with the Watchtower's Real-Time Battlefield Intelligence. In the middle of this city was an Insurgent Stronghold. They supply the Demons with additional reinforcements and firepower. We must crush them before we make contact with the Remnant Soldiers from the Order of Saint Patrick."
  36.
  37. "After that, what will we do next?" Alacrity inquired.
  38.
  39. "A Hellkaiser was established in this city. Taking that hivemind down would cease all demonic activities." Blackshot began to walk away. "Let's move."
  40.
  41. *****
  42.
  43. The stronghold was fenced inside, guarded by pairs of patrolling Insurgents and a Technical (machinegun-mounted pickup truck) driven by a group of Insurgents. Hostile targets were impossible to determine inside the compound due to the thick concrete that makes up the structure. Blackshot noticed that each guard was slumped against the fences, an indication of exhaustion and sleepiness.
  44.
  45. "Brothers, get into position and wait for my go," Blackshot instructed, raising his Blast Rifle and aiming at a wary guard. His partner was near enough that he was also an easy target for the Protectorate.
  46.
  47. He heard footsteps coming from his earpiece. He peeked over the flipped SUV and took aim once more. He heard acknowledgment clicks from his earpiece sent by the other Protectorates.
  48.
  49. "Go," Blackshot spoke as he opened fire at his target. Three blasts were issued from his weapon and the guard immediately hit the ground in a heap within seconds. His aim jumped to the next one, firing rapid successions of plasma before the enemy could arm himself with his M5 resting against the wall. He hit the ground with a burning chest plate.
  50.
  51. He broke into a sprint and made a mad dash towards the fence of the stronghold. He rolled forwards, bringing the entire fence down but immediately regretted it when squads of Insurgents appeared from the three-story building and took up positions behind the deployed sandbags not far from the entrances. He detached a magnetic grenade from his bandolier, cocked back and tossed it at the group in the middle of his sight. A powerful explosion erupted that led to the burning funeral pyre of four Insurgents.
  52.
  53. He aimed at the next one to his left and fired three plasma shots, decapitating an Insurgent foolish enough to stick his head out of cover. Blackshot momentarily averted his aim to the group in the right and fired a couple of plasma shots, taking down another. His brethren dared to fight back but ended up getting shot to the last man. Returning his aim to the second group, he took them down with plasma shots to faceplate each.
  54.
  55. He noticed that his shoulder, chest, and groin plates were smoking with dime-sized craters where 5.56 mm bullets had embedded themselves in. He ignored the damaged and continued inside the stronghold when a speeding red truck rammed him to the side.
  56.
  57. "Serves you right, asshole! Slasher, get the machinegun firing!" He heard an Insurgent yelled, probably the driver.
  58.
  59. "Not a chance!" Blackshot replied back as he quickly got to his feet, drew his Ray Pistol and fired at the wide visor of machinegunner's faceplate. He proceeded to open fire at the driver behind the wheel, then to his passenger after receiving three semi-auto bursts from him. He raised his free hand and launched a fireball at the hood of the vehicle, causing the engines to burn and explode, rising in a pillar of flames that sent the vehicle skywards and then landing afterward in heaps of twisted metal and blackened debris.
  60.
  61. He walked inside the stronghold, joined by Alacrity, Ironblood, and Beartrap.
  62.
  63. "Ready?" Blackshot asked.
  64.
  65. "We're ready, brother." Alacrity replied.
  66.
  67. "Where's the rest of your teams?" Blackshot inquired with concern.
  68.
  69. "Fighting off the incoming Insurgents," Beartrap replied back.
  70.
  71. "Well, that will keep the Commies busy for a while."
  72.
  73. "I agree," Ironblood answered back.
  74.
  75. Forming in a diamond formation, the Protectorates' minds synced as one as they entered the first-floor entrance. Their senses were known to the other, everything they see, hear, or feel was also registered with the other's mind.
  76.
  77. "First floor, clear!" Beartrap yelled.
  78.
  79. "Contact!" Blackshot yelled as he aimed at a corridor to his right and spotted two Insurgents filing out with M5s in their hands. He hosed them down with plasma fire before yelling, "Clear!"
  80.
  81. Beartrap led the team across the long hallway. The others aimed at each corridor they walked past, firing at any that had Insurgents inside. Bodies in metal armor hit the floor as plasma bursts echoed from the muzzles of their rifles. A group of three dared to obstruct the Protectorates' path, only to get shot by Beartrap. Soon, they were ascending to the second floor, firing at the Insurgents that stood guard. They made their way to the third floor, taking down every guard until the third floor was cleared out and the structure was clean of Insurgents. They found a room filled with radio and computer equipment.
  82.
  83. "What do we do with this?" Beartrap inquired.
  84.
  85. Blackshot didn't respond as he detached a magnetic grenade from his belt and primed it. He left it on the surface of one of the computers before moving to the next and leaving a grenade on the top of it. He left another grenade to the last radio equipment and left the room.
  86.
  87. The room detonated, showering the hallway with glass fragments and burned twisted metals. The Insurgents were basically blind at this point and for now, they were scattered. Possibly, they will stay like that and eliminating them would not be a problem for them. The next move Blackshot had on mind was to rally the Order of Saint Patrick together. Their coordination, numbers, and firepower would be essential in taking the city back.
