  1. Help selecting web host for phpBB?
  2. Greetings to all and thanks in advance for any help. I will try to be as thorough as possible in my needs but if there is something you need to know, let me know.
  3. As my name states, COMPLETELY new to needing a website and forums so bear with me.

  17. I run a VERY small Foundation whose primary function is to be the "landlord" for the local little league. Since the league board has potential to turn over every year, I thought it would be great to set up an online forums for general discussion that normally happen via email but we all agree that having things a "historical" evidence and in one place would be great. I used to be a used on the old MSN message boards and though that being able to create threads and archive would be great. Plus I can upload materials on an as needed basis.
  18.
  19. I do not mind if I have to create a website in order to run a forum as it is something we have thought about creating anyway as having a web presence for our ball fields and history. But if I do not have to create a website that is fine as well. I am not committed either way.
  20.
  21. There will not be major traffic on the board. At any given time there may be ten people with access to the forums and again, it will be mostly for discussions though picture and doc upload would be a HUGE plus. So web "traffic" would not be significant. There would be days where there is li to no traffic and then days wehere it would be lucky to hit 20 posts in a day (once things are up and running. I will likely have to spend time setting things up first).

  23. Being new to all this,I can say I am pretty tech savvy but still pretty green. Computers don't "scare" me and I back up pretty frequently so if the fan is hit with smelly stuff, I should not be SOL. BUT, it is easier for me to not have to set up everything on my home computer. For that I mean installing phpBB on my own computer and running things off my machine. That is what I am hoping web hosting can help me out with. I do not need to go for "free hosting" as I prefer someone to help when I need it but budget is limited as one can imagine.
  24.
  25. So I hope this helps. I am happy to answer any questions and appreciate any advice that comes my way.
  26. The way you describe your requirements, there is little to be asked for. You should be good on any decent hosting.
  27. If you don't have a preferred providers list, go to the advertising forum and make a short list based on your requirement. Contact each of them using their support channel and take it from there. That communication is important because support is everything in this industry. Get a taste of it before signing up.
  28. First and foremost welcome to Web Hosting Talk!
  29.
  30. When you read the rules of this forum, there is a good quote I think fits your thread.
  31. It says: "There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you."
  32.
  33. Based on what your requirements are you should have no problem finding a good reliable host. You just have to make sure it fits you and how comfortable you are navigating it. Be sure to contact the host and ask as many questions as you can.
  34. There are two main differences that might be important for your to choose a hosting provider. This are managed hosting and unmanaged hosting.
  35.
  36. If you want the hosting company to help you configure you website, you probably want to buy a managed hosting solution.
  37.
  38. The better you know your requirements the easier it will be to choose a good provider for you.
  39.
  40. Good luck.

  45. I like the idea of contacting customer support first. Makes sense.

  58. Again, thanks for the tips!
