  1. How to be secure online-
  2.
  3. Here are some basic methods of staying safe on the internet.
  4.
  5. 1) Don't talk to strangers, and never, EVER, agree to meet them in person. It is fairly common for these people to be a dangerous criminal in the real world.
  6.
  7. 2) Don't reveal personal information on the internet, unless your parents say that its okay.
  8.
  9. 3) Have you ever got an e-mail saying that you could win/have won a large sum of money, or something like an iphone? These emails are scams, and are an attempt to try to get you to give up your personal information.
  10.
  11. 4) Use a strong password. Symbols (!, ?, $, etc), numbers, and capital letters will all make your password stronger. Many accounts use passwords like 12345, password, and incorrect. DO NOT use these types of passwords, as it makes it easier for people.
  12.
  13. 5) When downloading a file, make sure that it's free of viruses. These viruses can harm your computer in many ways, such as by corrupting data in your computer or reducing your computers performance.
  14.
  15. 6) When posting something on a social media site, eg. Facebook, remember that you cant delete it forever. If what you say is controversial in any way, it might come back to haunt you later on, even if you hit the 'Delete' button. Also make sure to check who can view your post before posting. Generally its best if only your friends can view it.
  16.
  17. 7) Use incognito mode when accessing a website on a public computer. This way, your browsing history will not be saved. Sometimes, your email ID and password may be saved also.
  18.
  19. 8) Always remember to log out after you're finished with viewing your email, or doing anything else that requires you to log in. Clicking the little 'X' button on the top right won't log you out.
  20.
  21. 9) Install a firewall. A firewall is a program or device that acts as a barrier to keep destructive elements out of a network or a computer.
  22.
  23. 10) Beware of fake websites and e-mails from people that you don't know. Most of these are harmful links.
