- >Get approval for vacation from management
- >Get accepted and plane ticket arrives next day
- >Get aboard the plane as it flies across the Atlantic
- >Get bored during the long flight so I read through the guidebook again
- >Apparently the parties that Cubans throw include a lot of dancing
- >Remember that I can't dance worth говно
- >Get both nervous and excited at the thought of maybe having to dance with a local qt
- >Shake my head
- >Figure that I'll cross that bridge when I get there
- >Sleep the rest of the flight and wake up when the plane is landing
- >Its night already so I find hotel to check into
- >Drop off my bags and head outside, slept in plane so not really tired
- >Walking around in the streets I can see how lively it is
- >Even at such a late hour people are still sitting outside in small bars and cafes playing music, singing, dancing and especially drinking
- >Feel nervous as some of the people sitting at the tables stare at me when I enter one of the bars
- >Try my best to ignore them as I head for the counter
- >Can't really make out what's being said around me
- >There's a lot of background noise from the band that's playing and the conversations going on at the tables
- >The guy behind the counter asks something along the lines of what I'd like
- >Order a glass of water because I don't know what half the drinks available are
- >He nods and brings over a glass of water along with a shot of yellowish-brown drink
- >"Its on the house amigo."
- >I take the offered drink with a quick thanks
- >Look at the glass for a moment before asking what it is
- >Apparently its a brand of local rum called Havana Club
- >Have never tasted rum before so I take an experimental sip
- >Scrunch my face a little bit at how strong the drink is before getting a warm feeling as it reaches my stomach
- >"This your first time here señor?"
- >Tell him I just arrived from the airport
- >"Ah, I know a new face when I see one. We don't get many foreign visitors."
- >Take a sip from the water to clear out the lingering taste of rum
- >Soon get dragged to the dance floor by other patrons who are clearly more drunk than I am as a new song starts being played by the band
- >Get paired up with a local qt
- >Try to explain that I don't know how to dance as the first verse starts
- >She just laughs my panicked explanations off before leading me along
- >Nervously try my best not to step on my dance partner's toes
- >My partner encourages me along as we keep going
- >Feel really awkward at for almost the whole beginning of the song.
- >When the second verse comes along I realize haven't actually made a single mistake yet
- >Get a small boost of confidence from this
- >Since I'm confident in my footwork now can actually pay more attention to my partner
- >She's easily an 8/10 with her curly black hair and skin that's dark and smooth like chocolate
- >Her breath smells weird though, like a mix of booze and tobacco
- >Her loose red and white dress sways alongside her hip movement as the song enters its energetic final part
- >Manage to finish the dance with flying colors as everyone cheers us along
- >Afterwards with sit down at the counter together and chat alongside a couple of drinks
- >Apparently my dance partner is a member of the military whose on leave
- >She recently returned from overseas after helping out and advising local anti-colonial fighters in Africa
- >Tell her I have no personal military experience beyond my own tour in the airforce
- >She's intrigued though as is evident when I mention my service in the airforce
- >She says she originally wanted to be a pilot
- >Apparently she could not become one because of her inability to handle the G-forces necessary for tight maneuvers
- >She looks really saddened about it
- >Try to console her with the fact that not many make it in to begin with
- >Joke that I only managed to make it into the flight cadet school because one of the guys didn't show up on the day of the interview
- >She's silent for a moment before turning to look at me and bursting out in laughter
- >She slaps me hard on the back and I spit out some of my drink in response
- >"You're a funny man Compañero Anon!"
- >Hit my chest, coughing from the rum as the barkeeper wipes the counter while murmuring something under his breath
- >Look around briefly and see the mood slowly dying down
- >The band has switched to a slower tune and some of the patrons have already started heading home
- >"Say amigo, how would you feel about staying at my place tonight?"
- >Look at her dumbfounded, trying to do a mental double-take
- >Ask her to repeat herself
- >"You heard me. You, me. My place. Tonight."
- >She's really aggressive about the way she's coming on to me
- >Look to the barkeeper for support
- >See that he just gives me a knowing look and a thumbs up before dissapearing into the backroom
- >Sigh and accept her invitation.
- >Since I'm the more sober of us two I help support her while she gives directions
- >Eventually we reach a pretty colorful looking two-story apartment building
- >It has a mural of Fidel and Che painted on to it
- >She doesn't even need to take out her keyes to open the door
- >Apparently the neighbourhoods are so safe most people don't even lock their doors
- >We sit down on the couch
- >She seems to suddenly remember something and asks me if I can get something for her
- >Surething.jpg
- >She says that there's a small yellow wooden box on the balcony table
- >I go get it and hand it to her
- >She thanks me and opens it, revealing a big pile of what looks to be hand-wrapped cigars
- >She takes one into her mouth before taking a box of matches out of her dress pocket and lighting up the end of her cigar with one
- >She offers me one of them
- >I've never really smoked, but I figure it would be rude to refuse
- >Take one of them and watch as she takes a deep breath before lighting it up with the end of her own one
- >Take a small inhale but start coughing almost immediately since I'm not used to the sensation or taste
- >After a few tries I eventually feel the nicotine kick in as I lay down on the couch totally relaxed
- >Feel the qt3.14 next to me lean against my shoulder
- >Feel my heart start pumping like crazy
- >"Anon, do you... perhaps have a girlfriend?"
- >Feel a lump in my throat as I embarrasingly mumble that I've never had one
- >"Ah, mis condolencias. Seems like you've had a rough social life."
- >Stay silent, really don't feel like talking about it
- >"Then how about I be your girlfriend for tonight?"
- To be continued
