Thus Morgan came to the kingdom of Garlot and lived in a castle called Tugan, which was rich and comfortable in every way. In this castle she established an evil, noxious custom, not as soon as she got there but a little later. For in the middle of the hall she put a tomb; inside the tomb she put an inscription in an ivory box, and in the inscription was set forth the death of King Arthur and who was to kill him, and Gawain’s death was there and the name of the man who would put him to death.

Know that she knew nothing about the inscription, for Merlin, who gave it to her earlier when he still kept her company, told her, “Take care not to see this inscription, for know well that no woman will ever look at it without dying at once, for it is not permitted a woman to know the death of either the king or Gawain before it happens. ”

Later, much evil happened from this tomb, as the story will set forth clearly, and many good knights later died because of it, wanting to know the truth about the two valiant men and how they would end.
