Is it confirmed that the Exterminators aren't AI/Androids? Because the LED masks sort of make me think that.

Or is it that the Exterminators getup is the equivalent of Angel Riot Gear, and they are real Angels underneath everything?

Do you think that they have any thoughts or feelings about their appointed task? Is it just a day job to them, do they hate it, do they love it?

I'd think it varies, but it might consist entirely of volunteers given that it's heaven.

Seems a bit to free wheeling to me. Heaven seems like a place that would be very ordered, a place where everyone has a designated job that they are assigned upon arrival. Hell seems like the type of place where you have choice.

I dig this take. From the outlines we see of the angels in Hazbin's opening they do seem to be rather mechanical in aspect.

Now this is lovely stuff, truly lovely. I wonder, do you think it's possible for an exterminator to be damaged to such an extent that it cannot leave Hell? Could that same one be one remain functional enough to "live" in Hell?

I mean, since they’ve been cleansing for such a long time, I imagine that it’s possible to ‘disable’ one, by tearing its wings off or severing its arms, if it’s a living creature, or damaging its primary command ‘node’, if it’s a machine and not a real thing. Because presumably it would have its instructions implanted inside it somewhere, and all technology is vulnerable, so it would be possible to overwrite it, and there you go, you’ve got yourself a killing machine you’re able to control and make it do as you wish. I imagine it would be subject to a lot of abuse for its kind committing mass genocide every 365 days, but I think the real test is upon the next Extinction Event, would it be seen as ‘defective’ and therefore be destroyed to retain purity, or would it be left alive by the others?

Depends. If they're machines, how the normal ones react to the defective ones would depend on how many failsafes the designers of the system implemented. You could either have them actively attacking defectors if defection was anticipated, or just ignoring them and continuing on as normal like a computer network with one terminal disconnected from the rest.

I would wager there are a few ways it goes, all dependent on who claims the thing when it gets disabled.
1. Overlord gets a hold of it - probably tormented in ways that would make what Valentino does to Angel seem like wholesome foreplay. At the start of the next extermination event the hobbled exterminator is left out in some sort of grand display of the overlords power. May be to flex on the angel's or other overloads.
2. Injured and in hiding - the exterminator survived being maimed and managed to make it an entire year in hell. Probably tries to get its fellows' attention. Whether or not it is aided or killed would depend on what it had to do to survive for that year. The exterminators may also just mercy kill it.
3. Taken in by a kind soul - Charlie offers the thing a room in the hotel on the conditions that it helps rehabilitate sinners and does no harm to anyone. Lot of fish out of water scenarios here. May make other guests nervous. Have a feeling Vaggie and Alastor would really not like the thing being around Charlie, at all.

This is of course assuming an Exterminator can be captured. I'm really holding out hope that the Exterminators are portrayed as unstoppable killing machines, not some generic gas mask mook that any above average sinner/overlord can subdue on a whim.

I’d imagine it might take the combined effort of an Overlord, if not several to disable or destroy a single Exterminator, considering that they apparently have an arsenal of weapons, not just harpoons and bows and arrows, but ballistic weapons, swords, that sort of thing. By that assessment alone, a single Exorcist would likely pose a threat to at least a dozen sinners, if they were to tackle it head on, it would more than likely kill every single one of them.

But for the scientifically minded, you have an entire year between a cleansing, so would be able to hypothetically devise a system to disable one in order to study its technology and more than likely reverse engineer it, then you’ve got demons creating their own versions of Exorcists to kill the invading Angels and that opens a whole other kettle of fish.

This could become complicated if the Exorcists operate under a 'no one left behind' policy, or they have special dispensation to return to Hell to retrieve fallen Exterminators after the yearly extermination.

Or what if each Exterminator has a self destruct device ala Predator?

I would think Heaven, or whoever is running the extermination operations, is not going to sit idly while sinners capture, reverse engineer and devise ways to counter their exterminators.

I tend to think that the exterminators are FPS protagonist-level or higher. In the aftermath of the cleanse you see in the opening, there are demon corpses everywhere, but seemingly no angel corpses. They seem to come out on top in the fight in a big way.

That's most likely because there's hundreds or thousands of them sent at a time, and they're all there to support each other.

But what would happen if one was cut off from the rest? How would a single one left behind fare against 10 sinners, if it stuck to its 'primary order' ,which presumably would be to exterminate demonic creatures until it could no longer perform it's function? Or 100? Or 200? or 1000?

That would be kind of a tragedy. A soldier cut off from the rest of the army just slaughtering until it collapses, with no hope of going home or actually achieving its objective.

I think it'd actually be a bit of a self-aware comment on how Heaven is just as vindictive as Hell in some cases, in the pursuit for perfection they're willing to slaughter billions upon billions of intelligent lifeforms, who have just as much right to exist as Exorcists, and Angels or anyone in Heaven does. Just because you were condemned to Hell for eternity doesn't immediately erase your right to exist, as Hell has a functioning society, customs and beliefs as, I'm sure, just as Heaven does.

If Exorcists are 'different' to Angels, be it genetically engineered, or augmented to perform their function, or built for the singular purpose of extermination, then it asks the question, are they the real victim, if they just do what they were created to do, to ensure the survival of their own species? By their own admission, they'd be following their orders given to them by someone or something. Because some demons would surely attempt to destroy them on sight, and they'd be killing them to not be captured and tortured and killed themselves, because I'm sure, depending on what party got a hold of one, they'd be willing to do unspeakable things to a creature that is bred to kill their fellow man, as it were.

See to me it would make sense for Heaven and Hell to be more or less the same, just with different coats of paint. Hell is ruled over by someone who wasn't just an angel, but was basically the right hand of God, and it's full of souls of beings created by God. They'd never admit it, but angels have a lot of demon in them and vice versa. Heaven isn't the squeaky clean perfect kingdom fighting pure evil it presents itself to be, and Hell isn't the band of scrappy rebels standing defiant against puritanical tyrants that they like to fancy themselves as.

Would more or less peacefully remaining in Hell constitute it being a "fallen" angel? If it chooses to be at peace because it can't leave anyway rather than just massacreing until it's little heart gives out is that a failure of its duties?

Possibly, perhaps the others would see or read it as tainted? A year amongst the denizens of hell may have changed it, warped it, tainited it. At least in so far as the others of its kind see things.
