RPGLB18 recap

My first RPGLB is in the bag! It really was awesome to go to a smaller event, as I had predicted in my AGDQ18 recap pastebin. I felt like I got to meet a lot of people I had heard names of but never met in person before, while also seeing a good crowd of "GDQ regulars".

Holy shit SLC is a gorgeous city/area! I really need to go back there with a rental car and do touristy things. Even having to go offsite for dinner every night was ok because of the scenery. The altitude messed me up at times, but I was used to it (and the timezone) by the end of the week.

I think most of the new people I hung out with were by proxy of hanging out with Shentok or someone else, so I still wonder if I have a case of RBF (I learned the male version of that is called "resting convict face" btw). But y'all that I hung out with are a good bunch and I need to find twitters to chat with you more.

Runs I liked: Valkyrie Profile CotP (which was a WR), Crusader of Centy, Lunar TSS, Pokemon Crystal (for pushing through the worst Totodile ever), FRRMRBLRMBLM 9, Virtual Hydlide, West of Loathing, It's Our Revolution, Lufia 2 Ancient Cave
Runs I need to watch: the rest of DQ3, DQ1, Chrono Trigger
Stuff I liked: Para Ball, Pow Hammer, Balloon/ra/ga

I hope that the good performances of Phantasia and Symphonia lead to more "Tales of" games getting into the event. Also hope that SMT:DDS did ok enough so maybe one of the other SMT games can get in.

Looking forward to what venue is used next year so that maybe the food/boardgame room is closer to where everything else is. I always appreciate a quieter place to chill and watch the stream, but I'm not into boardgames so I really never went in there.

I don't have any person-specific shoutouts, but y'all are pretty cool and I'm glad the event was this successful!

Speedrun plans: Not going to SGDQ, so my next big event is AGDQ19. With the intro skip found for MKR, I'll definitely be doing a run of that before my Anime Expo trip and working on hammering down my execution and movement to get something polished for AGDQ submission. For Growlanser 2, I'd like to get better at menus and memorizing some of the easier battles - a lot of that run requires thinking on the fly depending on what drops you get, so I'd also like to be able to think faster. Want to get a solid run with good commentary for any online marathons that pop up (Questing for Glory 2 most likely). Still in the ALTTP Rando tourney, but tbh I'll be glad when I'm done with that commitment lol. And, as always, looking towards that sub-40 SilMir and sub-19 Chocobo Racing.
