—PERSONALITY:
    ◦ despite debuting in a group whose main concept is one of sexiness, it often surprises people how sohyun can actually pull off the concept. because at first glance, the first thing you'd think of when seeing her is " cute ". sohyun is the walking definition of cute, and leaks of natural aegyo no matter how hard she tries not to. she has people awing over her cuteness, and begging to see her do aegyo (she refuses more often than not). truth be told, her cuteness is something she's very self conscious of, being in MARS. she feels like she doesn't belong in the group, because she's naturally cute, not sexy, despite still being able to pull off the sexy dance moves. as an original member of the group, she's been rocking the concept from the beginning, yet fans are still surprised that she made the original lineup. because of this, she refuses to do aegyo for fans, preferring to leave that up to get other members. she has an uncanny ability to always turn up late, and can usually be found running around, trying to get to the practice room where she should've been ten minutes ago. this can also be very problematic, and it gets to the point that whenever they have schedules, the other members make sure to keep her in their sight at all times, to make sure she doesn't just somehow disappear (another odd talent that she has, as she's known for getting lost a lot). she is horrible with directions, and you should never leave her in charge of the map, because she will find someway to get lost. sohyun could probably also manage to get lost while taking directions from a gps that tells you what way to go. in the group, she's closest to the maknae, and often claims that younger girl reminds her of her own younger sister, which in a way makes sohyun feel less homesick. she has a habit of bossing younger members around, and making them do stuff for her, but it is all in good nature, because she loves them a lot, and will probably threaten to beat you up if you hurt any of her group members (not that she'd be able to do any real damage anyway, as she's the type to hurt her own hand trying to punch someone else). she's usually calm mannered and is the peace maker of the group, and is the messenger when any fights break out, because she doesn't like it when everyone starts fighting. however, she's a bit of a contradiction in this way, because she is very fussy person herself, and tends to start ridiculous arguments over the smallest things (like who gets the tv remote, what they eat for dinner, who gets stuck doing what chore etc.)

—BACKGROUND:
    ◦ rose was born nam sohyun in jeju island, south korea, in a very rich family. growing up, sohyun was the middle child, as her younger sister was born four years after her. even though she grew up in a rich family, she was in no way spoiled, and refused to let the money her family had get to get head. sohyun was extremely close with her siblings, and all three of them grew to be very protective over each other, as it was the three of them against the world. her mother was a stay at home mum, and her father was a businessman who frequently travelled for his work, and as a result, he never really became close with any of his kids, especially sohyun. as the middle child, she was often overlooked, mostly by her father. he was always executing her to be more like her brother, and concentrate on her schooling, even though he grades were above average (she wasn't like super smart, but she was above average, if you get what i mean), or telling her to behave more like her sister, who was like a model daughter, always poised and olive at the business gatherings they were forced to go to and meet with other rich businessmen and their families. however, despite always being compared to them this, sohyun's relationship with her siblings still remained strong. ever since she was little she was interested in music, and had been a fan of the kpop scene since she was a teenager. so of course, becoming an idol was something that she wanted to do, even though she was positive that she wouldn't be allowed to. when she was fifteen, she first voiced wanting to audition to become a trainee, and her parents were completely against it. sohyun begged and begged and begged, but her parents wouldn't budge. eventually, they struck a deal, telling sohyun that she had to get straight a's in school, and attend all of the fancy rich get togethers and act like a proper young lady. her parents only made the deals, believing that sohyun would never be able to do it. however, they obviously did not take into account how badly sohyun wanted to become an idol, as she went and did everything they told her to do. her parents finally let her attend an audition when she was seventeen, but rather begrudgingly. even though they weren't happy about it they didn't really have a choice as sohyun was not going to let them go back on their agreement. she passed the audition at stardom, and two years later she was joined by her younger sister as a trainee, and a year after that she debuted with MARS.
