Background: Ryan Jun Park was born on September 7, 1999 in Winnipeg to Korean parents. He was the younger child and only son in the family (he had a sister, Jessica Min Park, who was 2 years older). Ryan’s father was a pastor, and Ryan began learning how to sing by singing songs in church. Ryan started taking singing lessons when he was 6, and he appeared in many school musicals. He soon had a great desire to become a singer. His parents initially didn’t approve, but his older sister was always behind him. After a while, his parents decided that while they were worried about him trying to become a singer, they would support him always. When he was 14.5, Ryan went to Vancouver with his sister to visit extended family and auditioned for SM Entertainment singing “Wait For You” by Elliot Yamin. The company was impressed, and he was accepted.
