  1. (Note: RCR was offered the choice of which conversation thread to follow, or to simply leave or do something else)
  2.
  3. As the game winds down, you find the crowd beginning, largely, to disperse, winding down to a small number of stragglers after (most of) the Gold Knights are bussed off to celebrate with their coach, the Hedgehogs are ridden away in shame, and only a single-digit number of people remain.
  4.
  5. Largely, those who remain seem to be broken up into small numbers, all of whom seem to be involved in a conversation with one of those three big dudes from before. You have a feeling they won't want to talk to you, so you would only be able to eavesdrop a little while.
  6.
  7. That purple beret girl (Violet, your player knows) seems to be speaking to Mr. Jones, asking him, "do you really think you did a good job today?"
  8.
  9. Backed up by her big cameraman, that local newscaster lady, Jillian Heart, is speaking to Superintendent Anastasia, asking, "are you sure you have the right priorities right now, Superintendent?"
  10.
  11. That officer who always seems to be the hugest guy in any room, Officer Churchyard, is trying to run after the sole baseball player who didn't run off to celebrate, that short strawberry blonde-haired girl who hit a home run at the start of the game. "L-Lou, wait! Don't
  12. run away from me, c'mon! I just want to have a chat!"
  13.
  14. You feel a loathsome presence on this baseball field, as if somebody who knows you're here has utter contempt for you.
  15.

  20. "Are you sure you have the right priorities right now, Superintendent?" Jillian grilled the old woman, her tone intensely suspicious.
  21.
  22. "The game went well, didn't it? And people seem to be having a good time..." The old woman answered, her grin from earlier having been wiped away.
  23.
  24. "A beloved community member got eaten alive! After everything else that's come here! How can you call that 'well?!'" Jill needed to be physically held back by Chad when she said that, only to stop herself lean back into him.
  25.
  26. "...there wasn't a thing any one of us could have done for that man, Jillian." Now, the old lady was serious. "You know what we can do, though? We can live our lives, we can understand that some things are outside of our power, and we can write fun little reports on local high school championships. The good and happiness of the world is not worthless or invalid because of the suffering next door... For so many of these children, these games truly are the most important event in their lives, and they do not deserve to live in fear. I've lived a long life, the reaper will come for me any day. when he does, he'll have to wrestle me to the ground and take a three count, and it will happen."
  27.
  28. "But your own players are-!"
  29.
  30. "And I miss and mourn them deeply. You know that replacement leadoff girl, Lou Reed? She's lived here nearly a year, always struggling to make friends, running off and disappearing for days on end to do god knows what because the boys never find her, but here, she was a star, beloved, the shining example that led her team to victory. That matters. Living a good, fulfilling life, making memories, that matters most of all."
  31.
  32. Jill was getting frustrated, clearly, pulling away further now. "You're all useless, if not worse. Fine, sit on your asses. Don't help. I'll get to the bottom of this."
  33.
  34. All hurried away after noticing you. In following days, your team began to feel as if they were being followed.
