  7. MrSkypelessons __ Да, мне тоже казалось, что он говорит хороший. Я все понимаю. Но, у меня когда-то жил попугай и он отзывался на кличку "Крис Хэдфилд" (ну, простите, это было давно и неправда.)

  12.
  13. Are we listening to people or parrots? Do we hear anything spoken that cannot be repeated by a beginner or a clever parrot?
  14.
  15.
  16.
  17.
  18.
  19. "Chris Hadfield" appears to speak Russian the best but admittedly he is more talented than the others (he is my second favourite "astronaut" after "Scott Kelly"!). I believe "Chris Hadfield" actually speaks French so with languages he can seem far more convincing (he knows what is needed). Then again, "Chris Hadfield" is Canadian and a Canadian speaking French? Is that unheard of?!
  20.

  22.
  23.
  24.
  25. That is why I contrasted the clear and confident speech of "Chris Hadfield" recorded in a controlled situation with a situation that's more "on the spot" (sort of). At least - if the "ISS" is real *and manned* - then the "command handover ritual" must be done in a single take - meaning it is a more "genuine" situation for showing off the language skills of an "astronaut".
  26.
  27.
  28.
  29.
  30.
  31. Of course - if the alleged "ISS" is not real and manned - then his weak performance "on the spot" [there were plenty of pauses / "brain freeze"] *could be due to a limitation of the trick* - but this video and my reply to you is not about that - _it's about the exaggeration of their Russian proficiency._
  32.
  33.
  34.
  35.
  36.
  37. (For does not every child grow up to believe "astronauts" are amazing in every way?! I did.)
  38.
  39.
  40.
  41.
  42.
  43. My central point is that we are supposed to believe that these "astronauts" spend many years learning Russian. What have they got to show for it?! Apparently it is a "requirement" to learn Russian to be in a "Soyuz" [makes sense!] and apparently they tell us they receive "all of their instruction" from Russia in Russian. _I'd love to see that classroom setting!_
  44.
  45.
  46.
  47.
  48.
  49. By now I have watched hundreds of "ISS" videos and all I have come across by way of Russian (by the English speakers) is just one or two words that are [to any beginner] easily pronounced.
  50.
  51.
  52.
  53.
  54.
  55. There is no demonstration of any real proficiency. That's my point. Everything can be found in the first chapter or two of a "Teach Yourself Russian" book that comes with a CD!
  56.
  57.
  58.
  59.
  60.
  61. I understand that if a person utters the "right sounds" of one's native language it can seem as though that person speaks it. And so really - _without anything additional_ - it's a bit like assuming a parrot can speak because it too can make the right sounds!
  62.
  63.
  64.
  65.
  66.
  67. As someone who will forever be learning Russian - i.e., as a native English speaker learning Russian (трудно изучать русский язык и я мечтаю, что я смогу когда-нибудь сказать "я *выучил* русский язык!") - I have a sense for when a native English speaker is just "faking it"/"winging it" by "making the right sounds" (like a parrot).
  68.
  69.
  70.
  71.
  72.
  73. From having watched a lot of "ISS" videos and paid attention to those moments when the English-speaking "astronauts" try to speak Russian - (as I say - it's never more than one or two easily pronounced words) that's the impression I get. And I have seen nothing to contradict it.
  74.
  75.
  76.
  77.
  78.
  79. So I think it is a myth that the "astronauts" all go and learn Russian. Ну ладно!
