- Brain Age Sudoku FAQ
- What are you trying to do?
- Beat all the Sudoku's in Brain Age without looking at the answers
- Is it not allowed to look at those?
- It is, but since there are no runs on the board for this I figured it'd be a much more interesting challenge to do it without actually knowing all the puzzles
- How long is this expected to take?
- I did a rough calculation beforehand and got to 16-ish hours. My goal-times per puzzle are sub 5 on a Basic, sub 9 on an Intermediate and sub 13 on an advanced. The averages should be quite a bit lower however
- What is the hardest thing in the challenge?
- Staying focussed for the duration of it. This is also why the harder puzzles are early on and I finish with mostly basic puzzles
- Why do this?
- I actually love puzzles, sudoku and sudoku variants especially. Off-stream I don't game much but I make a lot of these puzzles, so I figured it'd be an interesting challenge to try
- What is the method of notation you use?
- It's called Snyder notation. Basically, for a lot of the puzzle, I exclusively mark whenever a number can only go into 2 squares in a 3x3 block. This helps with spotting doubles, as well as helping me see where certain lines or columns aren't possible.
- Why have correct answers on?
- If I get stuck I will resort to Bowman's Bingo for the sake of saving time. I try to not use this, but if I get stuck I will do this and as such having the DS tell me right away saves me of having to go through that process.
- Any particular things you look for?
- Mostly Doubles, triples, naked singles, x-wings, uniqueness and a few other things to look for to help me in the solve
