EVOLUTIONARY DATA AND NAMES

This research is based on a file 'mons2/MAKE/DATA/SHINKA.OLD' which seems to be older than the SW99 builds. It contains data for 251 Pokemon, their names in Japanese, evolutionary data (method and next form) as well as the entire level-up learnset. Much of the data differs considerably from the final game, at least in the portion containing Generation 2 Pokemon.

This document focuses on the names and evolutionary data.

Note: In SW99, Mitei01 is the name of a pea-sized Pokemon that was redesigned into Sunkern, Pokedex 191. This might mean that this Pokemon was repurposed as a Sunflora preevolution after the creation of the shinka.old file, while its previous spot was taken by a newly designed final Bayleef. Of course this would mean that Chikorita's evolution from SW97, Hanamogura, was Sunkern's direct antecedent.

Seeing as Mitei01 turned up at this spot in SW99 (and later developed into Sunkern) it's safe to say that these two Pokemon were swapped to some extent. What Bayleef and Mitei01 were at this stage of the game development is hard to say, but it's unlikely that a Pokemon that resembled the final Bayleef actually had anything to do with Sunflora.
