  1. **Chrysalis's view **
  2. >You stare at the picture on the nightstand, contemplating what it means>He's in it, after all>And this was centuries ago>Another oddity is that you don't have a clue about this castle
  3. >You've never heard of it
  4. >After staring at the picture and the painting of the first immortal, you realize that he's not here
  5. >You call out; to no response
  6. >Then you remember you saw him crawl under the bed
  7. >Moving it over, you spy an open trap door
  8. >This must be where he went, so you descend in
  9. >When you reach the floor, lights are already on
  10. >And you see blood lingering from a battle long ago everywhere
  11. >Somepony had fought valiantly, and probably lost
  12. >You start down the room, but stop when you see Anon
  13. >Scrambling away from the far side of the room
  14. >He can barely keep himself upright, he's so scared of something
  15. >On his wobbly path to get out of here, he almost runs into you
  16. >You back up and give him room
  17. >The look in his eyes are unnerving
  18. >As though his reality had started to shatter in front of him
  19. >You walk over to whatever he ran from, some nervous energy pushing you on
  20. >When you see it, you do a double take
  21. >That can't be right
  22. >It has to be coincidence
  23. It has to be
  24. >You mutter
  25. >That can't be
  26. >...
  27. >Him
  28. >It just can't
  29. >Just to be sure you aren't imagining things, you reach out and poke it
  30. >Immediately, the body starts to crumble
  31. >But not into small pieces of dust
  32. >But into a dark black liquid
  33. >On pure instinct, you jerk away the growing puddle
  34. >Something tells you that touching that would not be a good idea
  35. >After a moment, the puddle of black liquid somehow glows, and starts fading away
  36. >Soon it's gone
  37. >But when it started fading away, you felt something very familiar
  38. >The last time you felt that was....
  39. >When tartarus opened up and let out a horde of monsters
  40. >If it wasn't already, something is officially off
  41. >About everything
  42. >You start to sympathize with Anon for thinking his reality is broken
  43. >You turn to leave, but it just so happens that in doing so, you see what's beyond the door
  44. >The Crystal Empire garden
  45. >The one you were supposed to meet in in a few short hours from now
  46. >You want to step outside, but you hold back
  47. >A few centuries of experience serve as a warning
  48. >You were once trapped in a labyrinth, and one way doorways were commonplace
  49. >No sense in stepping out and having to come all the way back for Anon
  50. >Speaking of, you head back to the room to look for him
  51. >At first you don't see anyone
  52. >Then you spot him curled into a ball on the far corner of the bed
  53. >Shivering and muttering something over and over again
  54. >You step towards him, and it sets something off
  55. >He snaps to attention, and points
  56. NO! I WON'T GO BACK!! YOU...You... you can't make me....
  57. >And then he goes back to muttering something again
  58. >You start walking closer again, now more worried
  59. >When he screamed, his voice was shaky and cracking
  60. >And he didn't point at you
  61. >He pointed at the floor next to you
  62. >Realization doesn't come to you, though you feel that it should
  63. >When you reach him at the bed, he's not shaking anymore
  64. >He's also not looking at anything
  65. >He has a blank stare into nothing
  66. >Eyes vacant of emotion
  67. >You can't see anything happening in them
  68. >Only your reflection
  69. >You can't help but take a hard look at yourself
  70. >Nopony had ever given you reason to think about something other than the survival of your kingdom
  71. >It's been centuries since you were viewed with something other than fear
  72. >...
  73. >You think back to lat night, where you let your emotions get the best of you
  74. >Unlike any other you've ever encountered, he gave you a hug
  75. >Comforting you in a moment of despair
  76. >Something about him...
  77. >Something special
  78. >You can't place your feelings
  79. >Not yet
  80. >Past experience screams not to trust him, not to get too close
  81. >But something else holds you back
  82. >...
  83. >It's probably the fact that he can still be of use to you and your children
  84. >Yeah, that's it
  85. >Must be
  86. >You are too busy with the inner monologue to notice what else is happening
  87. >That feeling you get when tartarus is opened is back
  88. >And something is coming your way
  89. >Make that three somethings
  90. >Three Alicorns, standing side by side, glowing just enough that you can't quite discern their colors
  91. >Each is wearing a long dress
  92. >The dresses seem to be made of something.... alive
  93. >Then they speak
  94. Chrysalis, daughter of the changeling Queen
  95. >Their voices were not loud, but in unison, and powerful
  96. Who are you? How do you know about my parents?
  97. >The three don't even share a glance
  98. We know many things.
  99. >The one in the center pulls out a thread
  100. >Like the dresses, this thread feels
  101. >...
  102. >Different
  103. >When it is brought closer to you, and you see the glow it holds, you realize what it is
  104. >Your eyes widen in shock
  105. Yes child. This is yours.
  106. >The fates
  107. >The three fates themselves
  108. >Here, in this room
  109. >A frown crosses the middle Fate's face
  110. But its... Isn't
  111. >A hoof is pointed at Anon
  112. >Now it's your turn to frown
  113. >You look over at Anon, but he's still staring blankly
  114. >What do they mean, "Isn't"? isn't what?
  115. This one has no thread. It has no fate, save what it makes for itself
  116. >This time, they do share a look between themselves
  117. >And you are confused more by what you see
  118. We tried to contain it, but that won't work. We have come to warn you
  119. >...Warn...?
  120. Your thread; your fate; we can no longer handle it
  121. >And with that they start to fade away
  122. >But you can;t accept that
  123. >You won't
  124. Wait! What do you mean??
  125. >They don't answer you
  126. >They keep fading away
  127. >Before they are completely gone, however, Anon starts to focus again
  128. >Just before the last trace of them vanishes, he jumps out of the bed, racing towards them
  129. HOLD IT!! I SAID WAIT!!!!!!
  130. >But he was too late
  131. >The fates had vanished
  132. >And it hits you that it was a mere shadow of their true forms
  133. >A tiny fraction of their powers
  134. >You stave off questions, and turn to Anon instead
  135. >...
  136.
  137. **Back to Anon**
  138. >After running out of that damn room, you don't remember much
  139. >You vaguely recall curling into a ball somewhere
  140. >But what you do remember is a time after what must have been your life with King Ibaje
  141. >It was hell
  142. >You were imprisoned
  143. >You remember being trapped in a cage
  144. >A cage held over a black river
  145. >Likely the Lethe
  146. >You remember the eternity of being trapped alone
  147. >The memory of things in life making a hunger
  148. >That turned into a need
  149. >A need to get out
  150. >It would seem that somehow you've managed it
  151. >You're alive again
  152. >And nothing can touch you
  153. >Not even fate
  154. >You stop spacing out
  155. >And when you look up, you see them
  156. >Those bitches who pinned you down and forced you to live in that damn cage
  157. HOLD IT!!
  158. >The trio glance your way, and panic flashes across their features
  159. >They are wearing those dresses made from the threads of many lives, and destinies
  160. >Truly masterpieces of all art
  161. >It just serves to remind you what they've done
  162. I SAID WAIT!!!!!!
  163. >You scream out, lunging at them
  164. >But they finish vanishing before you can touch them
  165. Dammit!!
  166. >You couldn't do anything
  167. >But what could you have done?
  168. >Chrysalis's stare distracts your thoughts
  169. >She's looking a little shell shocked
  170. >She must have spoken to them
  171. A-Anon?
  172. >....
  173. Do you know... who they were?
  174. >Of course
  175. Yes. Fate herself, in three personas
  176. >Venomous hat is pouring through your words
  177. >It seems to make Chrysalis visibly hurt
  178. >She grimaces, as if your anger is physically hurting her
  179. >That causes you to switch from anger to concern, and then she looks better
  180. What was that?
  181. >She looks at you like you should know, then realizes something
  182. >Probably why you shouldn't know whatever it is
  183. As a changeling, we need more than food to survive
  184. >What?
  185. >How does she mean?
  186. We also need emotion. Specifically love.
  187. >...
  188. Any form, be it sympathy, friendship, or more
  189. >That must mean...
  190. You change shape to disguise as someone else to steal love?
  191. >She nods
  192. Yes. Though we've always had the ability, we didn't always need to use it, as we do now
  193. >She goes on to explain how the crystal empire itself was once home to changelings, who prospered from something called the crystal heart
  194. >Some time before Ibaje, some pony stirred the pot, and eventually ponies came to distrust the changelings
  195. >Soon after that, they were exiled
  196. >They still had a connection to the heart, but it was fading slowly with each passing decade
  197. >Turns out that the shard wasn't the only thing Sombra messed with
  198. >He hid away the crystal heart, and then the entire crystal empire vanished without a trace
  199. >This cut the changelings off completely
  200. >Love is now rationed in a sense, and she sends her children out to get love
  201. >They operate almost like a battery, only they don't hold love past what they need
  202. >The rest goes to the hive for the others
  203. >All of this is fascinating to you
  204. >You wonder if she's fed off of you
  205. >She's had ample opportunity lately
  206. >She's like your best friend
  207. >And last night....
  208. >You were there for her
  209. >Comforting your newest friend while she was in the dumps
  210. >You'd do it for anyone
  211. >Yeah, you'd do the same for any friend of yours
  212. >...
  213. >Do the same....
  214. The sun's setting
  215. >Chrysalis interrupts your thoughts in a gentle voice
  216. >You smile
  217. Looks like it. Shall we take that door downstairs?
  218. >She smiles back, and you both walk through the long room and out the door together
  219. >Next thing you know, you're in the garden
  220. >Shining isn't here yet, so you take the moment to sit down and admire the view
  221. >Chrysalis sits down next to you
  222. >Almost like last night, when she was watching the fires burn
  223. >Only now she's not sad, just in a peaceful state of awe, like you
  224. >You don't know why, but you feel compelled to speak
  225. This view sure is something. Nothing like...
  226. >For a moment, you struggle to recall your home
  227. >Then you remember
  228. >Living in the city, never out in the country like this
  229. Nothing like the city back home
  230. >You sigh, and watch the sun as it goes down
  231. >....
  232. A-Anon?
  233. >Chrysalis says, scooting closer, and facing you directly
  234. >You stare into those green eyes, the proximity alone making you nervous
  235. >Your heart starts beating a little faster
  236. Y-yes?
  237. >Dammit
  238. >Don't stutter Anon
  239. I....
  240. >Before she could continue, something slams into the back of you
  241. >Shoving you forward
  242. >Directly into Chrysalis
  243. >Particularly her face
  244. >Your lips meet for an instant, as your momentum takes the both of you a couple feet back
  245. >On top of the obvious results, you feel another sensation
  246. >Like the air was being sucked out of your lungs
  247. >And then just like that, something felt like it was missing
  248. Mwahaha! It is mine once again!
  249. >A dark voice booms behind you
  250. >You finally seperate from Chrysalis, both of you rather flustered
  251. >And you see Cadence, Shining Armor, and Twilight
  252. >Cadence is smirking at the two of you, while the others are staring at the pony-thing behind you
  253. >Really, it was more a black mist with eyes that had green coming off of them, and a glowing red horn
  254. >But it's enough to creep you out
  255. >Then the mysterious figure sank into the ground, vanishing
  256. >It's then you realize why it feels familiar
  257. >When Twilight teleported here the first time, that thing's presence was what you had felt
  258. >That's when Shining shouts out
  259. Sombra! You won't get away with this!
  260. >He is of course met with silence
  261. >Then he and Twilight turn to you
  262. >Lo and behold, while no longer tangled on the ground with Chrysalis, you were still on top of her
  263. >....
  264. >Both of you leap away at the same time, not looking at each other
  265. >Cadence just snickers to herself
  266. >...
  267. >This evening should be fun...
