Sea Fluffy's Secret

Sabrina has always been considered a strange girl. She is always ready to play in the mud
with the boys with a ribbon in her hair. She has perfect manners, but she isn't above
slugging someone for teasing her about her pig tails. And unlike most of the girls at her
school, Sabrina always wants to know how things worked. Her mind is a sponge for knowledge,
and she isn't above bombarding an unwary adult for hours on end. Sometimes her questions
are downright macabre.

Today is such a day.

"Mom, why don't Sea Fluffies drown," Sabrina asks after watching the latest promo from
PETA about the strange creatures.

"Because they live in the water dear," her Mother replies wearily.

"But they're FLUFFIES...."

"SEA-Fluffies, dear."

"What's the difference?"

"Well Sea Fluffies live in the water, sweetheart, which means they like water...."

"But they're still Fluffies, and all Fluffies drown when they see that much water..."

"sea Fluffies don't."

"But WHY?"

"I need a drink."

Sabrina puzzled over this paradox for days. She asked the same questions to every adult
she could think of, with the same results. Clearly something was very wrong, and Sabrina was
determined to solve this mystery. It became clear who she needed to ask in order to crack this enigma
once and for all.

The next day Sabrina left her school and went to a lake not far from her home. As she walked along the
bank, she spied in the shallows a small school of Sea Fluffies at play. The small creatures darted
through the water playing huggie-tag while singing a song about huggies. If Sabrina were a bit older
no doubt the thought typical fluffies would have passed through her mind.

She sat on the bank and called out to the small creatures.

"Oh Sea Fluffies! Will you come and play with me?"

The Sea Fluffies turned and looked toward her curiously. A small aqua blue Sea Fluffy waved a flipper
at the young girl and called out in his squeaky Fluffy voice:

"Hewwo nicey hoomin! Nyu Fwend?"

"Yes, I'm your new Friend," Sabrina calls back patiently.

The Sea Fluffies cheered in unison and began to swim over to her, all the while singing a new
song about meeting 'bestest nyu fwends'. Before long they came to the waters edge just below her feet.
Now that they were up close, Sabrina could see their colors - Aqua Blue had a darker mane, while the
other fully grown Sea Fluffy was a sandy yellow with a vibrant green mane. Between them were three younger
Sea Fluffies. The largest one was orange and red-maned while the others were miniatures of the Aqua Blue
Sea Fluffy. The foals flipped and flapped in the water happily while the Aqua Blue Sea Fluffy clambered
Seal-like out of the water.

"Hewwo Nyu Fwend! Am Bwuey! Dis am Bwuey spechol Fwend Wemon! Wemon bestest spechol fwend ebeh!"

"Cooooooo! Bwuey awways maek Wemon soooooo happeh!"

"An dese awe Bwuey and Wemon babbehs! Dey big babbehs nao!"

"Wuv Daddeh! Bestest Daddeh!" the Twins shouted happily.

"Babbeh hungy! Babbeh wan miwkies nao!" the Orange foal yells rudely while swimming around his mother.

"Nu Miwkies tiem Babbeh, it pway tiem!" Lemon says.

"Miwkies Nao! Nao Nao NAO NAO NAO NAO NAO!"

"Bad Babbeh! Mummah gif nosie boopie," Lemon cries before doing just that.

"Owwies! Why huwt babbeh?"

"Yus bein bad babbeh! Wisten tu youw Mummah," Bluey replies to his stubborn foal.

"Ummmm, I'm still here...." Sabrina intones. The four Sea Fluffies cheer while the stubborn foal pouts.

"Nicey hoomin pway wif See Fwuffies? Mebe be nyu Mummah fo famiwy?" Bluey asks.

"Maybe....." Sabrina began. "But I have a question first!"

"Questin fo Bwuey?" Bluey asks in a confused tone. His head cocks to one side.

"Yu su smawtie, Bwuey. Hoomin wan be smawtie tu!" Lemon shouts happily.

"Uhhhhhhhhh.......yeaaahhhhhhh, I guess. Will you help me be smarty?" Sabrina mutters.

"Bwuey awways hewp hoomin fwends!" Bluey replies happily while Lemon and her twins hop happily.

"Dummeh hoomin nu smawtie den Smawty Babbeh," the Orange foal sneers.

"BAD BABBEH!" Lemon hollars before landing the mother of all nose boops.

"Wah...*Gurgle*" The Orange foal screams as the nose boop pushes the foal under the water.

"Wha questin foa Bwuey?" The Aqua Blue Sea Fluffy asks.

"Why don't you drown in the water like other Fluffies," Sabrina says.

Bluey sits for a moment with a look of complete confusion.

"WAWA BAD FOA SEE FWUFFIES!" Lemon and the remaining two foals cry out. The orange foal hasn't resurfaced.

"Wah hoomin mean?" Bluey asks.

"Well you swim in the water all day!" Sabrina exclaims. "Why don't you drown???"

"Siwwy hoomin, Dis am SEE," Bluey answers.

"Wuv See!" "See bestest housie foa See Fwuffies!" Lemon and her surviving foals add.

"But that doesn't make sense!" Sabrina cries. "It's [i]Water[/]!!!"

"Dis am See," Bluey says again patiently. "Dis am housie foa See Fwuffies."

"Wuv See! Wuv See!" The twins chant over and again. Lemon hugs her twins happily.

"But this isn't the Sea - It's a lake.....and just what do you swim in anyways?"

"See Fwuffies swim in See. Pway in See. Haf bestest See Nummies tu!"

"It's water though!"

"Am see, nicey hoomin," Bluey says.

Can a Sea Fluffy question your sanity? The look Bluey gives Sabrina in this moment makes
Sabrina think so. She leans back and tries to come up with a new approach while the Twins
continue their eerie chant of 'Wuv See'. Lemon struggles ashore and rolls onto her back, waving
her flippers while she begs for 'bestest bewwy pettins fwom nyu fwend'.

"How do I explain this," Sabrina mutters as she pets Lemon. The foals come ashore for 'pettins'.

"Hoomin jus bein siwwy," Bluey says. He watches proudly as his foals nuzzle Sabrina's knee.

"Wait! I think I've got it," Sabrina yells.

Sabrina leans forward and cups a handful of water from the lake. She holds her hand out
for Bluey to see the small pool of water in her hand.

"What is this?" Sabrina asks.

"Where am pwetty owange babbeh?" Lemon asks suddenly.

Bluey sniffs her hand while Lemon rights herself and begins to search franticly for her long
gone orange foal. The foals cry in fear and try to climb onto Lemon's back.

"Dis am wawa," Bluey answers. "Whewe hoomin fwend fin wawa?"

"Nu! Wawa bad foa See Fwuffies," the Twins cry while Lemon sniffs the sand for Orange.

"I got it from the lake," Sabrina says triumphantly. "You know- your 'Sea'?"

"Wawa fwom See? Dat nu maek sense! See am See!" Bluey cries.

"And the Sea is made of water!" Sabrina says. "Here! Watch me."

Lemon and the foals turn to watch with Bluey as Sabrina dips her hand into the lake again.
She draws her hand up slowly, so the rivulets of water drip from her hand as she brings it back
to the sandy shore. She parts her fingers and lets the water fall free. The four Sea Fluffies
stare in bewildered silence as the drops of water splash on the sand.

"See is.....wa.....wa.......?" Bluey whispers. Lemon and her twins remain silent.

The four Sea Fluffies stare, transfixed, at the lake. Their home. Everything they have ever known.
Then Sabrina watched their eyes glaze over and their snouts open. They make a strange sound,
like when Mom and Dad do that funny thing with the green mouthwash. One by one, the Sea Fluffies
collapse to the sand. The water that spontaneously drowned them trickles from their mouths.

"I KNEW IT!"
