Sample letter to Congress about FBI targeting

Dear Representative/Senator ____,
I am concerned by the news about how FBI employees are being targeted. The acting FBI director was ordered to provide a list of all the employees who worked on Jan 6 matters.  These cases were lawfully investigated and prosecuted and now thousands of employees fear their jobs and livelihoods are in jeopardy. Targeting them sends a chilling warning to all employees in federal law enforcement to not work on investigations that might affect the President or any of his associates. The dedicated professionals in the FBI who worked on these cases have specialized skills and years of experience that the public benefits from every day as they apply those skills to investigations that protect our country from foreign threats and violent criminals. Suddenly losing that talent hurts all Americans by weakening our FBI’s ability to carry out its mission. Even if new hires are authorized later, it takes years to gain skills and experience. This firing of employees based on involvement with a legal and authorized investigation not only would be illegal, it would create a massive national security issue, only delighting our foreign adversaries.  Please use your voice to support the FBI and its employees immediately.
