  1. [16:31] Once again would Daemia be trying to strike two birds with one stone. In this instance she'd be trying to teach Aerymi the final bits and pieces of medicine, along with extending her understanding and possibly determining what Aerymi wanted to do for the future, along with the future of her own self.
  2.
  3. A bit of a mess it'd be, but Daemia wanted to get this over and done with; more helping hands when it came to fixing people would make her time at the Tower so much more easier in turn.
  4.
  5. "Okay, so you've been reading from the text books I have given you. You've taken a hand in operations, big and small. Now it is time for the final touches.", the Demon states, a tongue flicking out to glide across the lower lip before she continues to speak, "But first, since I believe you've got a solid grasp so far, what parts are you still stuck on."
  6.
  7. "Along with that, what magics do you see yourself using. Some can be used in conjunction with healing, as I am sure you're already aware."
  8. (Daemia Hexis)
  9. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10. [16:46] The cambion nods as Daemia lists the operations she's assisted with. Somewhat specific in scope, yet major nonetheless.
  11.
  12. Yet two questions are delivered. Anything she still requires help with, and the magic she uses.
  13.
  14. It would be simpler to answer the second, first...
  15.
  16. Aerymi takes the flute from her side, holding it to her lips. Gently, she begins blowing air into it, delivering a somewhat haunting melody- as the air around her swells with magic. Sound, evidently- though there's an obvious occult taint mixed in within it.
  17.
  18. Wiping the mouthpiece, then returning her flute to her side, she stares forwards towards Daemia for a few seconds afore responding to anything she needs further assistance with.
  19.
  20. "I still haven't performed any operations, myself. I believe I'm ready to, but there's that hole in my practical experience.
  21.
  22. Other than that, there's nothing that concerns me."
  23. (Aerymi)
  24. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25. [16:52] It was difficult to garner practical experience without causing damage to the inner workings of this Tower's society. She couldn't just pull within an Apostate working within the depths of this morbid place unless she wished to cause a stir and she was not about to put herself on the table for Aerymi to open up and operate on without a firm bit of practical experience... So!
  26.
  27. A corpse from earlier it'd be.
  28.
  29. "Hm, practical experience. Well, luckily Veles likely has a failed Cambion lying around here somewhere. I'll go check in a moment."
  30.
  31. Red eyes trailed down from Aermyi's face and onto that flute as it was pulled out, so she was akin to Shallina, in which case there'd be a lead for Aerymi to follow up on.
  32.
  33. "Shallina was my original tutor for medicine and healing in fact. She also uses sound. You should consider speaking to her in the future, she might be able to aid you in that field.", with that said, Daemia wanders off abruptly, into a darkened side passage to which a few dead bodies from failed experiments lay.
  34.
  35. "Ah.", a distant voice of Daemia could be heard, followed by footsteps soon after. Upon a wheelie-table, wooden and iron wrought, lay a deceased Cambion. 'Freshly' dead, skin beginning to hit that stage of pallor.
  36.
  37. "If you need practical experience, then we can use this. How? I'll let you assume how, see if you've been reading those books I gave you."
  38. (Daemia Hexis)
  39. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  40. [16:59] Shallina. She hasn't encountered many sound magi, so she can likely assume it was them who she played with earlier.
  41.
  42. Watching as the demon abruptly moves away, afore returning moments later with a fresh corpse. She looks over it for a few moments, then turns her gaze to stare at Daemia as she's told to figure out what she's supposed to do with it herself.
  43.
  44. Aerymi sighs, quietly. Randomly cutting into a dead body isn't going to do anything.
  45.
  46. "What am I assuming the injury is, Daemia?"
  47. (Aerymi)
  48. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  49. [17:03] "They're dead, Aerymi.", she states with a deadpan expression, stating to obvious to her student.
  50.
  51. "It'll be your job now how to determine they died, to figure it out. Sometimes your job won't be to heal, but to investigate. This right here? It's one of many Cambions, that my creator, allowed blossom into existence. Unlike yourself, he was not successful."
  52.
  53. Daemia's personality took a noticeable shift here, being a bit darker and more sadistic than usual, a bit more stern; likely due to growing so suddenly and having to adjust to new roles and duties, as an 'adult'.
  54.
  55. "You're going to figure out why he didn't make the grade. If it was genetic or environmental. If it's genetic, there should be mutations that weren't according to what was intended, if it was environmental? You should be able to determine that too."
  56.
  57. Aerymi was going to have to use all that she had learned previously to find the answers that Daemia likely already knew about this subject. If Aerymi was to glance upon the body, they'd see that he was quite pale and that some of the telltale mutations of being a Cambion hadn't quite formed yet.
  58.
  59. "Here."
  60.
  61. A scalpel was handed over to the student, "Show me what I've taught you."
  62. (Daemia Hexis)
  63. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  64. [17:25] An autopsy. She isn't certain how this is going to teach her anything about treating a living person, but she is not the doctor...
  65.
  66. Retrieving the scalpel, the cambion gives a quiet sigh as she pulls her sleeves up, then leans forward over the body. Holding the blade...mostly correctly...she places it at the top of the corpse's chest, and draws it down in a steady line. Turning her hand, she then draws two lines parallel- creating an 'I'.
  67.
  68. The scalpel is placed to the side, and she draws the flaps of skin back. And...very immediately, the cause of death is revealed.
  69.
  70. Their heart had, very simply, been destroyed. The image should likely send a shudder down her spine, yet she finds herself thinking how lucky the dead man is.
  71.
  72. Moving a hand to gesture towards the destroyed heart, her gaze looks up to examine Daemia's.
  73.
  74. "Their heart burst. My guess would be their body couldn't handle being rebuilt-" A glance over to their head- observing their apparent age. "-which is supported by them looking to have been, at best, middle-aged. It appears as if it happened soon after the peak of infection- here, and here..." Gesturing at specific parts of the man's body. "...you can see scales beginning to grow in. They stopped because of the death, but I could see the virus having continued its attempts at mutating following the death. For a short while, at least."
  75.
  76. Aerymi turns her eyes to look back at Daemia. Her voice is tired and distant, and she's not particularly amused by doing an autopsy.
  77. (Aerymi)
  78. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  79. [17:35] An autopsy, yes! After all, Daemia couldn't allow Aerymi to touch living flesh with a scalpel before they have experience with using it on a form that was deceased; it'd serve the same purpose, as she needed to be careful with those cuts and incisions less they mar the investigation and damage their evidence of the how, what and where.
  80.
  81. If anything this was a throw-back to how Veles taught her, almost; the twist here being, instead of dissecting a lesser felblood creature that was briefly spawned. It was more productive; giving insight to what Aerymi is, for both herself and Daemia and not wasting valuable biomatter and energy.
  82.
  83. Efficiency was something Daemia strived for, in her field these days.
  84.
  85. "Remember, it's a knife. Not a pen, do not hold it like a pen. Hold it as you would a knife, a box cutter. A short blade it is. Improper grasp will lead to improper cuts.", as soon as she sees what was not a perfect grasp of the tool, Daemia is quick to chide the young Cambion, as to straighten out any flaws.
  86.
  87. "...The cut is acceptable but if it was a living subject, you would not want to cut more than what is needed. Longer and bigger cuts, means more stitch-work."
  88.
  89. Upon opening of the corpse's chest, the cause of death is indeed revealed; the heart had been irreversibly destroyed. But why? Daemia listens in to the Cambion's observation of the corpse. As to Daemia's expression? One that was neutral, one of indifference for the time being.
  90.
  91. She was teaching, there was no room for immaturity or pleasure, "Yes, the heart burst, but.", a hand reaches out, gloved it were as to point index finger along the areas that were bruised oddly enough, with some traces of internal bleeding nearer the left lung.
  92.
  93. "You can see here, they didn't die straight the way, least this teaches us as much. They had likely mutated to a degree first before being attacked by others, or was already in an injured state before infection. I'd wager after infection, this subject got these bruises."
  94.
  95. Some of the telltale signs of mutation had grown in, but it never reached it's fullest peak overall. Only certain locations had began to twist and turn.
  96.
  97. "Yes, that is correct. Now. What do you think is the next step, Aerymi?"
  98. (Daemia Hexis)
  99. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  100. [17:53] The cambion had shifted her hold on the scalpel as directed to, though the scolding on the length of her cut makes her frown. It is not a living subject, as Daemia had made sure to inform her earlier.
  101.
  102. Her gaze moves to the gestured bruising- she'd missed that, vision clouded by the obvious cause of death. Maintaining her belief that the mutations had begun happening closer to the actual death than beforehand- but nodding as Daemia's prognosis is given.
  103.
  104. The next step? She's not quite sure. Cause of death had been determined- it was both a result of the person themselves being too hold, and having apparently been involved in a large fight. That's perhaps when their heart burst- in the middle of an adrenaline-fueled combat.
  105.
  106. "The next step would be to close the opening, and stitch it shut. We know the cause of death, so unless there are other tasks I haven't been informed about, the autopsy is nearly done."
  107. (Aerymi)
  108. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  109. [18:01] "Very good."
  110.
  111. Daemia's expression shifts to one of elation, after all, Aerymi had been a very promising student; a fast learner and one that did not care to whine or complain with what tasks were given, eager too. And despite Daemia noticing the lack of want to carry out an autopsy, they did it nonetheless, with an eye to detail.
  112.
  113. Of course, the bruising would be easy to miss, but it was with pointing such a thing out that Daemia hoped would help instil a careful eye for Aerymi's operations in the future.
  114.
  115. "We do need to close the opening. Despite this subject being deceased, if we leave it open, the stench of death will permeate the air and attract the flies and with it the maggots and then we'll have a rotting body on our hands.", with the cause of death found and details revealed, it was time to stitch it shut and apply some preservation to the corpse.
  116.
  117. "You are going to do this all by yourself under my observation. These will be the tools that you use. You've limited threading and staples, as to test you. I want to see good work here, Aerymi.", a leather bag that sat on the floor besides Daemia was picked up and promptly placed upon the wheelie-table.
  118.
  119. Inside would be all that Aerymi needed albeit with just a little over 'enough' of what she needed to finish the job here.
  120.
  121. "Stitch it shut, slather on the paste that'll cover and clog the incision made and spray the contents of the bottle onto the region. This'll stop it from rotting and causing a stench. Then you'll be done. After this, you should be good enough to begin doctoring, provided you take it slowly and carefully."
  122.
  123. Daemia smiles once more, "You'll build up speed as you build up your experience from this day onwards."
  124. (Daemia Hexis)
  125. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  126. [18:22] Ah, good. There weren't any hidden tasks Daemia had kept concealed. Nodding once as she's told that they're going to close the chest opening- simultaneously aware that a rotting body would do naught for the health of the residents of the tower.
  127.
  128. Gazing over to the bag, she picks it up and examines its contents. Thread, sutures- alright. Withdrawing the needle and suture, she attaches them- then carefully places the flaps of flesh back together. Making certain they're lined up, she slowly begins stitching the flesh back together.
  129.
  130. She's slow at first- though very quickly she speeds. It's not much different from tailoring, in reality. It was simply an unknown, which has become a known.
  131.
  132. The first of three incisions is closed with alacrity, and the other two follow shortly after. The stitch used in-question is a cross-stitch- simple, sturdy, secure.
  133.
  134. Severing the thread and binding the stitch firm, she places the needle on the wheelie-table, the withdraws the mentioned 'clogging paste'. A few moments to examine the tube- then she nods to herself, and leans in- placing a thin line of the paste along the stitch.
  135.
  136. Then she extends a hand, and applies a light force of air-pressure- pushing the paste down and spreading it, effectively slathering the incisions in the paste.
  137.
  138. Finally, she picks up the bottle- and sprays it over the corpse. One spritz, two- giving the body a light covering of the fluid from head-to-toe. Returning the various reusable items to the bag, she closes it, then turns her head to look at Daemia.
  139.
  140. Though she remains silent, awaiting judgment from the demon-doctor.
  141. (Aerymi)
  142. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  143. [18:29] Pearly whites gleam out from what was once a single curl of red lips, now parted into a grin. It'd be the first thing Aerymi sees as soon as she glances up to the Demon Doctor, that grin, an expression of delight and approval as to what Aerymi had performed here infront of her.
  144.
  145. "Excellent. Mm, fantastic, Aerymi, very good.", praises were tossed onto Aerymi lavishly as if trying to overwhelm and smother the Cambion's mental state with positivity over what she had done, to reinforce what she learned and to maintain that eagerness and willingness towards medicine and doctoring.
  146.
  147. Daemia takes the bag and slumps it back down onto the floor, only to place both of her hands on the table as she prepares to place it away back into that darkened passageway that'd serve as a morgue for the time being.
  148.
  149. "You've got the passion and technique, you've learned what you've need to, to begin your work ahead of today, Aerymi. That is all."
  150.
  151. It'd seem the judgement was all in all, good, above expectations and with that, Daemia carts the wheelie-table away, only to return shortly after with loud clacks and clicks from her boots.
  152.
  153. "Riiight, is there anything else you wish for Aerymi?", now, with that done, the final lesson completed? Daemia decided to slow things down, softly allowing Aerymi to withdraw and for herself to breathe for a moment or two.
  154. (Daemia Hexis)
  155. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  156. [18:42] The abject approval does bring a small smile to her lips- though thin it may be, it's sincere. Stepping back from the table as Daemia prepares to wheel it away- she's somewhat confused when she's told of having psssion for the work. Not that she allows such to be seen, only giving a small nod as she's told she has the techniques under hand.
  157.
  158. Aerymi's gaze watched the doctor move the table away, and similarly trailed the doctor as they returned. When questioned of anything else she wished to do? Thoughts flash to the last time she had asked the demon to speak, and she quickly resolves it best not to ask again.
  159.
  160. After a moment, the cambion gives a small shake of her head, and a second smile- yet this one lay hollow. "No. There is not.
  161.
  162. Thank you, Daemia, for the lesson."
  163. (Aerymi)
