- In the summer of 2020, or when Russia invaded Ukraine, certain prominent figures from Microsoft and the .NET community rapidly engaged in extensive social media activity concerning these issues. They expressed their political viewpoints by adding banners to the .NET website, incorporating flags and acronyms into their bios, and, most notably, advocating that abstaining from involvement in politics is no longer acceptable. The message conveyed was that silence is violence.
- In fact, some went as far as renaming "master" to "main" in a symbolic gesture. Yet, as the world witnesses the tragic loss of innocent lives, including women, elderly individuals, Holocaust survivors, children, and even infants at the hands of a fascist terrorist organization, a disturbing increase in anti-Semitism has been observed globally. This troubling trend has even touched diverse, multicultural cities like New York, and there have been instances of BLM (Black Lives Matter) accounts on Twitter sharing anti-Semitic stereotypes. In this climate, the Jewish community feels threatened once again.
- Given these circumstances, it raises questions about the current silence of individuals like Scott Hanselman. They seem unusually apolitical compared to their previous outspoken stance. It almost appears as though they now prefer to distance themselves from political discussions, as do other leaders within the .NET community. It's worth remembering the earlier sentiment that silence is violence. However, there is a noticeable absence of tweets, banners, flags, acronyms, or even a simple message acknowledging the tragedy and showing support for the Jewish community, which also includes .NET developers. We, the community is observing this silence. We see you.
