  1. Karn hadn’t been the only one to cast a spell of recognition. When Bolas’ spell was activated, it granted the Eternals the same ability to distinguish Planeswalkers from the crowd. The Eternals still killed “civilians” (whether actual civilians or Boros warriors) with swords and axes and their bare hands. But they didn’t need to work that hard to kill a Planeswalker. All an Eternal needed to do was establish a solid grip, and the Planeswalker’s Spark was harvested.

  5. All Jace knew was that—between Ral’s Beacon calling them, and the Immortal Sun preventing them from departing for the safety of another plane—some of the most powerful souls in the Multiverse were being chewed up by Eternals and spit out to feed Nicol Bolas.

  9. Jace turned to watch Gideon. He was, perhaps, the only Planeswalker in the Multiverse with some level of immunity to the Eternals’ harvesting. Many an Eternal tried, but Gideon focused the white aura of his invulnerability toward all oncomers, allowing none to get a grip on his actual person. Those that did try were soon cleaved or stabbed or beheaded by Blackblade.
