- >A loud, thudding stomping caused Corn's home to quake.
- >She woke up, less worried that there was an earthquake, and more worried that Sequoia had returned.
- >She hadn't even been gone a month.
- >Corn jumped out of bed, quickly put her scarf on, and rushed out of her house.
- >She started shouting in pops as she ran across her empty fields.
- "Pop! Pop pop!"
- >She popped her lips at the two towering ponies that stood by her abomination of a corn tree.
- >The sun silhouetted them, but she already knew who one of the ponies was.
- >"Oh! Good morning, Corn."
- "Pop!"
- >"Sorry, I should have sent a letter. I found Gloomy!"
- >Corn turned her head from Sequoia to the new pony.
- "Pop."
- >"What?"
- >"She said 'nice to meet you."
- >"Oh."
- >Corn trotted between the two ponies and approached the tree.
- "Pop."
- >"Right. We need to uproot the tree and plant it on the north side of the farm. We, uh... Didn't think about the positioning. We kind of made this one accident."
- "Pop!"
- >"It was mostly my fault."
- >Corn nodded in agreement and glared at Sequoia.
- >"And you needed me...?"
- >"To help uproot it."
- >Gloomy nodded.
- >"Great."
- >"I figured you could help the most, since you aren't going to be busy for a while."
- >Corn looked up at Gloomy, and blinked a few times, wondering if she wasn't incredibly sleepy.
- >Gloomy had grown slightly larger.
- "Pop?"
- >"I get bigger when my shows are between seasons."
- >Corn shook her head and started trotting back to her house.
- >Gloomy and Sequoia stayed behind and started digging at the roots of the tree to pull it up.
- >"She's weird."
- >"I think she's nice. She did try to make bigger food for us."
- >"Oh, is that what this tree is? I didn't think corn grew on trees."
- >"I kind of... messed that up. She tried to do it alone, and I offered to help. It kind of turned it into a tree."
- >"Nice job."
- >"Well, it was better than her rolling giant cobs of corn over the cliff!"
- >Corn approached the two with a shovel in her mouth.
- "Pop."
- >"No, we are grateful that you did this for us, but you did waste food by throwing it into the ocean."
- >Corn shrugged and started digging around the roots of the tree.
- >"So, can you actually talk, or what?"
- "Pop."
- >Gloomy looked up at Sequoia.
- >Sequoia shrugged.
- >"I've only heard her pop her lips, or... speak corn facts, I guess."
- "Pop."
- >"But you can understand her."
- >"Kind of? Like, not really? It's just... a context thing?"
- >Sequoia scrunched her nose up and held her head.
- >"I'll try not to think about it, then."
- "Pop!"
- >"So, how exactly did you two make a corn tree?"
- "Blasphemous earth magic from a certain big pony acted as added nutrients and hormones for the cornstalk which allowed it to grow much broader than usual. As a result, it developed a trunk similar to that of a tree, leaves to absorb the sun's light to grow, and hanging fruit."
- >"Which is the corn."
- "Pop!"
- >Gloomy frowned as Corn popped her lips.
- >"Okay, I think we're done digging."
- >Gloomy and Corn looked down to find almost all of the roots exposed.
- >"How are we going to move this?"
- "Pop! Pop pop, pop."
- >"What?"
- >Corn sighed, pointed to her back, made a pushing motion, and started trotting across the field.
- >"She wants us to carry it on our backs."
- >"Yay."
- >Gloomy laid down beside the tree as Sequoia pushed it over.
- >Gloomy grunted as it landed on her, but started to stand as Sequoia trotted over, wedged herself under the tree, and stood up.
- >They carried the tree across the field, and stood over Corn as she finished digging a deep hole.
- >"How'd you dig that so fast?"
- >Corn looked up at Gloomy, then down at the shovel.
- >She shrugged and chucked the shovel into the grass.
- >"So, we just dump the tree in there?"
- >Corn nodded.
- >They dumped the tree into the hole, roots first, and started pushing the dirt back into the hole.
- >Once finished, they trotted back to the other side of the field to fill the first hole.
- >"So."
- >Gloomy and Sequoia started stamping the dirt down.
- >"You're paying us for this, right?"
- >Corn looked up at Gloomy, sighed, and led them to a large barn on the north side of the field.
- >She opened the doors and held a hoof up as she revealed nearly two dozens cobs of corn nearly twice her size.
- "Pop."
- >"Oh, dang."
- >"Told you. It's better than having to buy a bunch of little foods."
- >"Right?"
- >Corn rolled her eyes and left the two massive ponies to eat their fill.
