  1. >you are Red Ink
  2. >you are the head teacher (or schulleiter, as some are now calling you) at the Reich Military Academy
  3. >ever since the war with Equestria started, your job has been a lot tougher
  4. >before, only the best of the best could be admitted into your hallowed halls
  5. >but now government quotas for soldiers has more than quadrupled your admittance rate
  6. >not due to more ponies being skilled
  7. >but due to the standards being lowered
  8. >standards you fought vehemently to keep set
  9. >but alas, Lord Manos needs soldiers, and not even you can fight against such a cause
  10. >what you can do, however, is weed out the weak from within
  11. >at this moment however, you are on a break in one of the Reich's best cafe's
  12. >chatting with a teacher from the Youth School
  13. "Now I'm telling you Cheerilee, if we don't make sure that only the best stock make it to the battlefield, then the enemy will surely best us eventually."
  14. >you take a sip of your coffee as she responds
  15. >"But surely the new weapons will compensate for the lower skill levels?"
  16. >you quickly set your cup down and throw your hooves into the air
  17. "But that's just it! These weapons are NEW; not to be trusted in the hooves of dimwits!"
  18. >she rolls her eyes at you
  19. >"Oh, surely you have more confidence in our ponies than that?"
  20. >you sit back and grimace, remembering the past
  21. "I used to have the highest confidence in our ponies, Cheerilee, but..."
  22. >you remember how you were in Ponyville trying to convince the parents of several star students to have their colts and fillies transferred to the Youth School in the Reich, when IT happened
  23. "You didn't see what I saw when the griffons came..."
  24. >you recall how when you were desperately trying to flee the city, you came across a house you had visited earlier on the same day
  25. >it was aflame, and it's inhabitants....
  26. >well, you couldn't tell which piece belonged to who
  27. >except for the tiny ones which you recognized as being from the colt you had talked to mere hours ago...
  28. >you sigh and look at the mare
  29. "I don't want our ponies to suffer more loss than they already have."
  30. >her eyes soften in understanding
  31. "If our ponies are educated to have the sharpest mind possible, there won't be any unnecessary deaths."
  32. >she nods
  33. >"I understand what you mean, Red; but you must think realistically."
  34. >she continues
  35. >"Equestria is such so vast,"
  36. >she spreads her forelegs to demonstrate
  37. >"We need as many soldiers as possible in order to win this war quickly; otherwise, we'll be fighting for years!"
  38. >you nod
  39. "I suppose you're right; but don't think that I'm going to let my students slack off because of that!"
  40. >she laughs in response
  41. >"Oh, I would never image you would."
  42. >you look over a the clock above the cafe's counter
  43. "Oop, would you look at that?"
  44. >Cheerilee looks at the clock and sighs
  45. >"Break time's over."
  46. >you chuckle
  47. "Cheer up! Remember, when you're done with your students, they come to me."
  48. >with that, you stand from the booth and begin your walk back to the academy
  49. >along the way, you pass by a group of fresh recruits doing a drill parade down the street
  50. >you recognize a few of them as being brand new
  51. >you can also tell from how sloppy their marching is
  52. >you walk into their path
  53. "Halt!"
  54. >the group clumsily stops their 'marching'
  55. "You're doing it all wrong."
  56. >you walk up to one of the ponies
  57. "Step forward."
  58. >she does so
  59. >you press your hooves against her knees, straightening her legs
  60. "The key is to keep the legs STRAIGHT."
  61. >you step back and observe her posture
  62. "Straighten up!"
  63. >she does as instructed
  64. >you look her over once more before nodding in approval
  65. "Mimic her posture from now on. You may continue as you were."
  66. >you resume your walk
  67. >and they resume their marching, much better this time around
  68. "Ugh, can the teachers not even give basic marching instructions anymore?"
