  1. <Otoki>: The midday sun shines down on the diner, where Otoki with his two students sat. The place is clearly going for that retro 50s look; leather-lined seats, neon signs, even the waitresses had the hairstyle and make up. "Right, we'll hold off for now, get some food and drink, and get ready for the trip." Otoki said, gently flicking aside some stray locks of his
  2. <Otoki>: hair, adjusting his sunglasses as he peered over at Skyler and Doppler. "Anything you want? I'll pay up."
  3. Skyler picks up a menu, saying "I can afford my meals." with an indignant tone
  4. Doppler didn't seem all the responsive, distracted gazing off into the world of sound around him. "I'll take whatever" Neither of them were being much help.
  5. <Otoki>: "Well, it's more the principle of the thing, Skyler. I'm your teacher, I might as well do this." Otoki said, shrugging and smirking. "I'm sure others appreciate your willingness to pay up for things though." he joked, tapping the table in a slow rhythm, nodding at the waitresses who passed by.
  6. <Skyler>: "If it means so much to you; I'll have their 'classic quarter-pounder' and some water."
  7. <Doppler>: "I'm.... going with whatever"
  8. <Otoki>: "Make that two... three quarter-pounders then." Otoki said with a shrug, sighing and tapping the menu idly, reading it to himself before calling a waitress over. "Yeah, make it three Quarter-Pounders, get some water and coke, and a side of onion rings for me." he said, putting the menu back and yawning. "I can't remember the last time I've driven so fuckin'
  9. <Otoki>: far..." the older male complained.
  10. Doppler was fairly sure that a quarter pounder weighed more than him, but didn't protest. "What are we out here for, again?"
  11. <Otoki>: "Well, you know by now why I bring you two along on these things. Demons, ya know?" Otoki said, leaning forward and grabbing one of the complementary straws, spinning the paper ends around while humming under his breath. "This is another one, but different. Usually they're like, twice, three times your size. This one is humanoid, but demonic... that's bad.
  12. <Otoki>: That means they're smart. Smart enough to have some plans. We need to catch him and purify him."
  13. <Skyler>: "Are the human ones made from different stuff, or are just like some higher-evolved version of the same thing?"
  14. <Otoki>: "More or less a higher, evolved being. They usually occur if a more feral demon has been allowed to feed for too long."
  15. <Doppler>: "Anything more dangerous about them or something besides being smarter?"
  16. <Otoki>: "Their enhanced intellect often means we deal with creatures who are very good at covering their tracks. We have on more than one occasion been forced to go in blind to deal with them."
  17. <Skyler>: "But they're still not people or anything, it's fine if we just destroy them outright?"
  18. <Otoki>: "Yes." Otoki said with a nod, thanking the waitress as she brought in the food.
  19. Skyler nods and takes his plate
  20. Doppler ponders for a moment and takes his food as well, starting to nibble off the bat
  21. <Skyler>: "So when you mean 'human', do you mean 'giant ant shaped like a man' or 'otherwise normal person but their irises are purple'?"
  22. <Otoki>: "More towards the former."
  23. Doppler didn't say much, continuing to eat as he watched between the two talking
  24. Skyler nods and begins actually eating
  25. <Otoki>: [fuuuuuck me this dog is an annoying little shit]
  26. <Skyler>: "It's been a while since the last demon attack, hasn't it?"
  27. <Otoki>: "They've been quiet for now, I suppose. My network hasn't been getting any blips, but whether that's because we haven't caught them or they haven't attacked is a mystery."
  28. <Skyler>: "Maybe they're just not in our area in particular anymore."
  29. <Doppler>: "They could have moved, given our presence"
  30. <Otoki>: "Demons are a stubborn lot. At the most I have expected them to move to more rural areas, but not go quiet like this. It... unnerves me, to be honest."
  31. <Skyler>: "If we have humanoid ones popping up, they could be organizing. And if they've been quiet, there may be more than just one of them."
  32. <Otoki>: "That's what I hope is not happening. But we have to be ready for the worst."
  33. <Skyler>: "Do they get more humanoid as time goes on?"
  34. <Otoki>: "Only with consistent feeding on the life of others. Otherwise, they can't grow."
  35. <Skyler>: "My main concern is if they got too normal-looking they could start blending into crowds and the like, which creates a whole new set of problems."
  36. <Doppler>: "Then the logical thing is to find a way to pick them out of a crowd"
  37. <Doppler>: "I imagine there's methods"
  38. Doppler nibbles idly
  39. <Otoki>: "Which is why we're going to nip this one in the bud before they can grow to that point. The sooner the better, means less chance of human/demon hybrids popping up to cause trouble too."
  40. Skyler makes a face and sets down his burger at the mention of hybrids
  41. <Skyler>: "Who would even- nevermind, don't answer that."
  42. <Doppler>: "Seconded"
  43. <Otoki>: "It's best we never find out. Even so, hybrids are a more messy area, because... well, they've got a human nature. They're not quite so mindless or feral as demons can be."
  44. <Skyler>: [we killed him]
  45. <Skyler>: [in the meantime, http://pastebin.com/aRSvHWFV for wuhwuh]
  46. <Otoki>: [guh, gemme the last post]
  47. <Skyler>: <Otoki>: "It's best we never find out. Even so, hybrids are a more messy area, because... well, they've got a human nature. They're not quite so mindless or feral as demons can be."]
  48. <Skyler>: "We still have the go-ahead to take out any half-breeds with the same amount of prejudice we could have with a typical demon, right?"
  49. Doppler chooses not to comment, grumbling
  50. <Otoki>: "Well... I dunno. I'd say half-breeds need a bit more decision. It's like people; just because people have the potential to /be/ bad, doesn't mean they should be exterminated, right?"
  51. <Doppler>: "Well, I mean, the same can be said for mutants, so yeah"
  52. <Skyler>: "We've exterminated plenty of dangerous mutants. A more powerful entity predisposed to mindless violence seems like a no-brainer."
  53. Skyler begins eating some of his fries
  54. <Otoki>: "Just be careful with the half-breeds. They've got more human tendencies, so some deserve mercy and compassion, sure, but some are going to try and play you for fools. Use your humanity against you."
  55. Skyler remains quiet but doesn't look too pleased with that response.
  56. <Doppler>: "I know how to handle that, at least" Tony finishes up his burger quietly
  57. <Otoki>: "I guess that uh... doesn't sit right with you fellas. I did mention it would be a messy business at the start."
  58. <Skyler>: "Nothing we can't handle. Besides, we're only dealing with humanoid monsters, we've got a while before they stumble upon some unfortunate fetishists and longer still before their kin would be an issue."
  59. Skyler pushes his plate away
  60. <Skyler>: "We should get going."
  61. <Doppler>: "Agreed"
  62. <Otoki>: "Alright. I'll pay up, you two get into the car, we'll be ready to roll in a minute."
  63. Skyler gets up and seems eager to get out of the diner, glancing back at Doppler
  64. Doppler is pretty set leaving that place, as untalkative as ever.
  65. Skyler sits in the back as is now typical, what with wings, leaning against the door
  66. <Skyler>: "For the record, I'm killing any half-breeds on sight."
  67. Otoki doesn't take too long, putting the money on the counter and thanking the woman for the food. He sighs, grabbing his coat and slipping it back on. He needs to get out of this human guise more often, it's way too troublesome for him.
  68. <Doppler>: "I think I already have enough people dead tallied up. I'll pass"
  69. <Doppler>: "Make it easier on me"
  70. <Skyler>: "I'm just saying: The last time I played 'nice guy' and tried to rehabilitate the baddies, Babylon happened."
  71. <Doppler>: "If you caused any part of that mess, it would have been your encounter right before it. And I don't think I can call that being 'nice guy', can I?"
  72. <Doppler>: "It was just a normal blunder we all could have made"
  73. Otoki steps out of the diner, walking over to the car. He climbs in without a word, asking the boys if they were ready to go.
  74. <Doppler>: "Try not to bring that episode up while you're at it. Lets just get this job done"
  75. Skyler sits up and the look on his face says he's brewing up some spiteful comment, but leans back again with Otoki goes back to the car
  76. Doppler doesn't seem to show signs of caring, going to his seat
  77. <Skyler>: "How much longer /is/ this trip, anyways."
  78. Skyler 's tone still reeks of sodium, he clears his throat.
  79. <Otoki>: "We're almost at the coast. This one has been in the ocean for a bit, but now they've been much more active in their attacks."
