  1. On a state by state basis, the evidence that more guns lead to more homicide is very weak. Citing reports by the Washtington Post even, not Breitbart news. All of the intellectual basis for gun control comes from country by country comparisons, actually scratch that, OECD country to OECD country comparisons (basically the US, Europe, East Asia, and Anglosphere) because if you do it truly globally then there is once again no correlation. And as Layman points out: Czech Rep, Finland, Switzerland, and Austria like their guns and are fine.

  3. Which gets to the heart of the matter. The crime issue in the US is (mostly) a race issue withj Blacks in particular raising the average. And the Democrats would rather blame guns than them. Some have said that Democrats covertly want gun control to empower police to pre-crime inner cities more but... that's really not believable. Putting aside the obvious question of whether one really trusts the Democrat Party with this (Chicago doesnt seem to be policed well, and NYC has to fight activists who call the NYPD's methods racist), the guns they focus their ire and policy on are rifle Conservative White Men like to own. Which gets to the heart of it: it's a culture war and nothing more.

  5. Oh and gun control if inherently classist anyway. Disarming the prole while the rich and connected keep their armed security. IMO, framing the issue this way to the extent the GOP and NRA have is why they havent lost. They can claim to be for the little guy. Because people do dislike oppressors and are moved by victim narratives as a cursory glance of modern society and history shows.
