51. The Bandit is hired on to run a tractor trailer full of beer over state lines, in hot pursuit by a pesky sheriff.
 52. In the summer of 1976 "Big Enos" Burdette, a flamboyant Texan aspiring to political office in Georgia, needs a vast quantity of beer for a rally, but the brand of beer he wants is Coors which at this time cannot be legally transported across the Mississippi, and at least one attempted shipment has already been intercepted by police. To get this job done, Burdette recruits modern day moonshiner Bo Darville, nicknamed Bandit for his previous exploits, for a hefty six-figure payment. Darville in turn recruits his pal Cledus Snow and his eighteen-wheeler for the job, entailing driving from Georgia to Texas, picking up 400 crates of Coors beer, and returning to Georgia, all in a span of twenty-eight hours. To draw off the heat of snooping state police, Darville will drive interference for Cledus in a hot Pontiac Trans-Am, the two of them maintaining contact via citizen's-band radios and the seemingly bizarre lingo used within. The trip to Texas and loading of beer goes without interruption, but the trip back to Georgia begins to pick up complications when Darville is stopped by a runaway bride, Carrie, who is fleeing a forced marriage to the son of a full-of-himself Texas county sheriff, Buford T. Justice. Sheriff Justice's pursuit of his prospective daughter-in-law soon becomes an interstate high-speed pursuit involving police from four states and also the intervention of varied interstate truckers aiding Darville and Cledus as they close on Enos Burdette's Georgia bash.
 53. Like a lot of the comedies of the '70s, this is funny, irreverent, profane and fun for its day but a little stupid now that I am older and, hopefully, a little more mature. When we were young in this period, Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and the rest was about as entertaining as it got for comedy-romance-adventure.

Jerry Reed also added to the likability of this film, not only with his sidekick role but his catchy movie title song that I can still hum to this day.

My only complaint here is my pet peeve: the usage of the Lord's name in vain which shouldn't be that prevalent in a comedy. Here it's abused more than a dozen times, mostly by Jackie Gleason. This is "Ralph Kramden" gone into the sewer with GDs coming out of his mouth left and right and a ridiculous insulting stereotype (Liberals love this) of southern cops. Gleason isn't funny; he's disgusting.

Otherwise, the film was low-brow funny and big, big hit.
 54. I remember this movie fondly from my childhood, and must say that it was actually every bit as entertaining as I remembered it to be. And despite being from 1977, it actually holds up its own quite well even in 2016.

This is definitely a typical Burt Reynolds movie, with his usual charm and spot on acting talent. And there was a great chemistry between Burt Reynolds and Sally Field.

The storyline in "Smokey and the Bandit" is quite simple, but entertaining. The Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and The Snowman (Jerry Reed) have to drive a shipment of beers from Taxarkana to Atlanta in 48 hours. But the road is long, hard and many highway patrolmen want to stop the notorious Bandit; none more than Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason).

"Smokey and the Bandit" is an entertaining movie that can be watched by everyone in the family no matter how old or young. Cars, humor, good cast, comedy, what's not to like?
 55. The direction, by a former stuntman, concentrates on the action and happily leaves everyone to their own devices, with almost nothing to do. Field shows what natural acting is all about, and Reynolds' send-ups of himself are, despite repetition, becoming more likeable. Here his kidding around is exactly in tune with this fast-moving but essentially lazy vehicle.
 56. Smokey was CB slang for the Police, especially state troopers who would often wear Smokey the Bear style hats. a5c7b9f00b
